Say I wanted to see if there was a group on Physics. If the group's name doesn't start with Physics (say there's a group called We Like Physics or something), the group search wouldn't find it. I'd then be creating a redundant group if I made a Physics group... Y'know what I mean?
I was aware of that, however, that's as close as you're going to get search-wise. Other than that, there's really no other way than the techniques listed in the first post... which means there's practically no guarantee.
As Kilroy said... yeah.... the group search feature does suck. It would sure be nice, though, if it could search by keywords derived from groups' descriptions. Until something better comes along, you can always search by title and hope to god that they have something in the name of their title that relates to your likings. =\
