Yeah well, it wasn't always like this. Back in the days of Windows 95 and up to Windows 2000, it was pretty much unlimited activations. However, piracy came into picture. People to cheep to buy something. My philosophy is that if you can afford it, then go ahead and buy it. If you can't afford it, then don't even think about getting it. It's because of piracy that we have CD Key limits.
Looking back through this thread, I found this.
Piracy entered the picture loooonnnng before 2000. It entered the picture at the same time as paid applications. Operation: Desert Storm had copy-protection. Marathon had CD keys. And so on.
