Ok, play the level lng night of solace from the space battle checkpoint again. Am i seriously the only one who can see the SMAC wreckage in orbit in the distance which was deliberately put into the skybox by bungie?

First off, due to the nature of the debris field it's impossible to tell what used to be there whether they be ships, orbital stations, etc.

Second off, if that were the case, then both the UNSC and Covenant look incredibly stupid. By saying that that field of debris are the remains of the SMACs that would mean that the space around Reach was conquered by one. One Covenant Supercarrier and its complement of Corvettes. The latter of which is pathetically weak for direct ship to ship against UNSC frigates of all things. So in spite of the fact then that this relatively tiny Covenant task force managed to single handedly secure Reach's space, the main fleet that would come afterwards was unable to completely bombard the non-essential parts of Reach into submission for more than two weeks?

That's just incredibly inconsistent with the strengths and weaknesses of both factions.

I could probably accept Reach as canon if the events in TFoR didn't take a few hours...

It is quite possible that the covenant can build up a military presence in days without being detected in the wilderness.

Considering the only ships that we saw were three frigates and a cruiser...

Well, we only saw 7 ships and 3 ODPs in Halo 2, I don't see anybody complaining about that. Even in space your view is limited to how far you can see. And obviously the Long Night of Solace was not anywhere near the SMACs, hence why we didn't see them.

there were far more ships in the background though that are in canon.

Yeah, but thing is the background near 2-dish style ships, there is an incredible number of them, and pretty much all go boom before chief leaves the hanger.

If you look in the skybox around Cairo station you see multiple clusters of 3 MAC stations all over space...

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Halo 2 did space more epic. Reach should have been similar but with better graphics.

Reach showcased a Farming colony . The book could have said Reach was a rainbow world. It doesn't matter because Bungie made out like Reach was comparable to any Mass Effect drop off planet.

The lack of any real Mac reference in campaign is just LAZY. The stupid easter egg radio which nobody listen to does not live up to it's goal. They took away an important part of the Reach downfall. The 343i map was a last save as a reference.

At this point, Bungie has shown a strong disregard for the pre-establish 10 year canon for the fans. Just because they added events that tie in very loosely with the novel. It doesn't change the fact that they had not sat down and read the books. Saying that this game was for the Fans, especially for the Fall of Reach fans is just absolute nonsense.

I agree with the person above, the game would have been great if it had nothing to do with Reach. also the lack of any defences just makes humanity look retarded, hell for some reason Bungie tried there best to make the humans in Halo seem 'realistic' then proceed to make them retarded as hell all at the same time.

Out of curiosity, has anyone actually bothered to verify what's on what side of the planet?

The main argument to justify the lack of MAC gun presence is that they're all on the other side of the planet. Why? What is on the other side of the planet that makes it a priority over the hemisphere that Noble Team operates from? Immediately high value military bases like Castle, High Command, etc, etc can come up as far more important facilities than secret ONI dig sites or secret Sabre facilities. But do any of us here actually have a handle as to where those locales would be on a map?

An investigation should be in order using the satellite images from Reach's cutscenes, the Covenant hologram of Reach on LNoS, The Fall of Reach and First Strikes descriptions of point of interests, and Halsey's map which includes some notes scribbled on them.

I'll have to review The Fall of Reach later.

I doubt all SMACs would be clustered on one side of the planet. That would make it virtually impossible to defend Reach.

Planets aren't like tanks where all the armor can be placed on the front. Defenses have to be distributed equally, otherwise, the enemy could slip past your net.
