Calling it:

I think Bungie Aerospace will be Bungie's own Social Network, complete with clan-support for the new-IP, cross-platform statistics, new-IP-related news, community-content spotlight, interviews, ViDocs, and perhaps even downloadable/purchasable old Bungie games like Gnop!, Myth and Marathon.

I just think it will be the central hub network for Bungie's next game, and I think it will have a heavy focus on community content.

I'm not sure what this would mean for Bungie.net as far as its function goes, but I definitely feel like the plan is to have all of their future games' content offsite so that it doesn't clutter Bnet.

So yeah, them's my thoughts.

Your welcome, you should be happy that I visited your thread.

If the code that was emailed to me at the end of work yesterday works when I test it today (Friday), then I will be happy. :)

I guess you could say I'm thankful (seriously) you visited and pointed out your post. Since it was not a thread I would not have found it but it sounds like your reasoning is similar to mine. Can't wait!

PS. Heres my post in the other thread:

Bungie Aerospace is classified as a project... So it is probably a new website becuase this one is all about Halo. Because they are severing their ties with Microsoft and the Halo series (plus in the future they are going to start developing a PS3 fanbase) they will probably be beginning a new website. (Or completely revamping the current one)

Yeah I like this. Since 2007 Bungie has been trying to make this site about more than Halo but I'm not sure they succeeded. The history section of the company is quite deep, the slides and such of talks they've given, etc are really interesting. But you are right it has been too Halo and Microsoft centric for too long. Thanks!

My thoughts exactly. Instead of changing the site, it will probably be easier to start fresh. Since they will also be expanding to the PS3

Very nice SonicJohn! 10 days ago LOL! I knew in the back of my mind this would not be "just my idea" but I didn't see any threads on it.

After work today, I will edit my thread post and include links to all this stuff you guys have pointed out. Thank you!

Didn't you just describe bungie.net, though? I dunno. They could be doing that, but I think it would be a bit silly if that's all it was. That would just leave forums here... and we all know forums are a relatively small part of the bnet operation these days.

To be fair, though, I can't think of a better idea. I don't think it's going to be the game engine people are throwing around, either.
I thought about that too.

However, Bungie.net uses WLID, which not everyone likes, causes quite a few security concerns and could alienate Bungie's future markets.

What if they made it purely so that you could log in with just a basic integrated username/password, and then attach your Gamertag, PSN Tag, Apple Account, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, etc, etc?

Maybe Bnet is just far too integrated now with WLID that it would be inconceivable to change it?

Thanks SonicJohn. I linked to your posts in the OP and also in a new Social Network thread that popped up.

Frank O'Connor is a 12-year veteran of the videogame magazine industry and has therefore never worked an honest day in his life.

It makes perfect sense for Bungie, As rebooting this website would be expensive and time consuming. Your better off starting from scratch and building up a new site with a better system (think hubs) that link to the various projects and games Bungie is going to make over the next 10 years. As for what happens to Bungie.net well that remains to be seen. You don't want to just shut it down and never have access to it again. But I'm sure Bungie doesn't want to keep building off of this any more. If I had to guess the stats and everything will be migrated over to Halo waypoint at some point. Bungie.net will be a front page for Bungie studios and general news about Bungie and Bungie areospace will be where all the new stats, games, news (community based) forums and everything else will be hosted.

ISU Cyclones!

If it is a social networking site there won't be much to do on it until at least we get some info on their actual new title.

Wet dream scenario for me? It's some kind of big elaborate player controlled social networking system that will work with their next new game that will allow things like clans or something similar to vie for control of a virtual map (of space most likely) for supremacy.

Guys, clearly Bungie Aerospace is the name for the Bungie Slingshot working group. Duh! It's obvious isn't it? Isn't it...

Hey! I made a thread on that a while back! Don't steal my idea!

Slingshot as a metaphor for a social system that keeps us addicted to Bungie games rather than "those other guys"? Sure why not.
