Subject: Halo: Reach is ONI propaganda

one thing i've thought for awhile is that the halo games are made many years after the war from declassified documents as a way to let people have an idea of what its like to be Spartans or ODSTs this could explain some inconsistances in the games because some information could still be classified or edited after these games are released there is a morale boost more enlistments into the military and less chances of insurrection

ONI propaganada....? What kind of crazy theory is this?

We all played the game, it happened.

Some people just aren't satisfied with disliking the game and pointing out that it has flaws :/ They have to find excuses to declare it non-canon or just outright declare that it isn't canon. Cobra is not one of those guys, I think he just posted this because it's an interesting "what if" kind of thing.

No he is.

The entire Halo franchise was ONI Propaganda. There was no Halo. There was no Reach. No Flood and no Covenant.

Just kidding. The Halo franchise is supposed tobuy you into New World Order.

Why would I not be surprised?

Wait what exactly is the theory?

The theory is that the game, Reach, is nothing more than a bunch of propaganda that ONI made up and put out as the real deal instead of the true account (which the believers of the theory would say is the book, The Fall of Reach).

I do not think the theory is a valid one however as there are many flaws with it.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

I want someone, who supports this theory, to tell why ONI would throw out their "spartans don't die, they're just MIA" policy. (They would tell people that they lied before, so why wouldn't they lie now)

Also, what would people think when ONI would tell them that they knew covies were coming long before they showed up and didn't start evacuating people?

Are you implying the game doesn't have many flaws?

Latest one: Reach fleet was destroyed by a single SC and 60 percent of the UNSC fleet was called back

We should know better, because we are better.

The best propaganda is one that the writer believes is true.

What's I'm implying is that the theory has too many errors to be considered more than anything as an interesting "what if" scenario. I know the game has some issues, I don't believe I have ever said it doesn't (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

The game never said that at all, I would say that you are most likely misinterpreting the lines on the LNoS mission. My understanding was that the Supercarrier was destroying everything they threw at it directly and that if it did actively go on the warpath then the UNSC would be in some deep -blam!-.

nah. Showing that spartans die? i don't know; but that seems detrimental.
But it makes sense considering that most cut-scenes are pieced together footage from cameras

EDIT: those two pages from the journal being missing is DEFINITELY propaganda

Mhm, showing the deaths of Noble Team would not be something that ONI would do in a propaganda piece. That would especially undermine their earlier policy of keeping the deaths of Spartans secret for morale purposes during the war, and I doubt that afterward they'd reveal that they'd been lying about Spartans the entire time.

"YOUR DESTRUCTION IS THE WILL OF THE GODS, AND WE ARE THEIR INSTRUMENT."

What about Reach would raise morale?

"A LIE is a LIE"

- Truly intelligent and deep Black ops trailer

Interesting theory, but the taglines bungie had "remember reach" and "remember how it all began" are thrown out of the window if all we have is a ONI story made for propaganda.

  • 07.04.2011 1:56 AM PDT

It can't be propaganda. ONI would never admit that Spartans can die.

Very highly unlikely, just play any of the levels where a member of Noble Team dies and play the level Exodus, those would not be very good for raising the morale. ONI would never publicly admit that Spartans could be killed and including footage of countless civilians being completely slaughtered by the Brutes while the UNSC is helpless to stop it, those would not be good propaganda to use if you're trying to improve morale. And besides, if you're talking about from the in Haloverse perspective of Reach, it was exchanged between two ONI guys in 2610, that's right about 60 years after the Human-Covenant War has ended, there would no longer be a need to raise morale for a losing war.

What if it was to LOWER morale?

What are their true goals?

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

So, then, we'd have to find out what was made up, and what wasent.

If it were ONI propaganda, then NOBLE TEAM probably never existed, as ONI wouldint give out information on one of their most elite and secretive teams.

People believe that Reach was a lie and that the story in the game was made by ONI as a cover up for there lose

Every theory has many flaws, just look at science.

Anyways i would say that some of it propaganda some is not.

They fought off the covenant for an entire month. Wouldn't that give you hope when the Covenant could wipe out planets in a day or so?

Yeah I know, I think this particular theory has one too many though to be considered entirely plausible.

Mhm, I kinda agree with that last statement, there may be bits and pieces that can stated are propaganda, or just wrong because someone made a mistake or misinterpreted something. All the things like that are supported by the letter included with the Legendary Edition of the game. I would assume that Bungie probably did it to give 343i plenty of wiggle room further down the road if they absolutely need to change something or similar reasons.

Problem. War is over. Covenant is gone. Why need to raise hope, or make people hate the Covenant more?

Also, they fought of the Covenant for a week or 2, not a month as a planetary battle.
