Think before you post

People keep saying that Halo is being milked into oblivion. While most of us disagree, people rarely see what other popular things have been milked. For instance, there are 22 James Bond movies. Yet Casino Royale was incredible that far into the series' lifetime.

Give it a chance.

Microsoft IS milking Halo. Without Halo, the Xbox will die.

Maybe not die, just lose a few hundred pounds.

Nah, it stands up by itself these days. Five years ago, maybe, but not anymore.

Gears of war is a pretty solid franchise. Not quite Halo status, but it's a good enough exclusive to sell units.

I think it does better in south america and the UK than the US though somehow.

Because of all the popular 360 exclusives, a lot of people and their friends bought the 360. By the time people weren't as interested in the exclusives, most of their friends had a 360 so they stuck with it. That's what I think anyway.

You were totally and absolutely correct in every way, I don't know why we were arguing, you're so amazing I should never have doubted you.

360 would do well without Halo simply because the alternative, the PS3, has no games.

James Bond movies aren't re-released in a relatively short span of time with constant tiny adjustments like Halo text is. Original new things that 343i has produced that have expanded the Haloverse so far have been:

Legends
Evolutions
Cryptum

With the following projects coming up:

Halo 4
Halo Grasslands

Things that 343i has essentially regurgitated:

- Halo The Fall of Reach x2 (not once, but soon enough they'll have done it twice for the sake of the "definitive edition". Adds just a few new pages for miscellaneous short stories as incentive for a rebuy)

- Halo The Flood (while not announced, it is likely they'll reissue this yet again so that it will have the "definitive edition" label slapped on so its uniform with the new new Fall of Reach and First Strike. Adds just a few new pages for miscellaneous short stories as incentive for a rebuy)

- Halo First Strike (Adds just a few new pages for miscellaneous short stories as incentive for a rebuy)

- The Halo Encyclopedia x2(added controversy of copy and pasting Halo wiki articles and being of poor quality in general in the land of typos and other miscellaneous errors, but later this year the Encyclopedia will be reissued with errors fixed and a few new pages added in as an incentive for a rebuy)

- Halo Visual Guide (which is essentially a smaller cheaper version of the Halo Encyclopedia containing new information from Halo:Reach)

- A graphic novel version of The Fall of Reach divided into three parts. (Spend an extra 60 dollars (three hardcover compilations full price) for a condensed, but illustrated version of the reissued novel)

- A motion comic version of Halo Evolution stories (at least this is free)

- Halo Evolutions Vol 1 and Vol 2. (Which is just a rehash of the original Halo Evolutions with one new but very very short story added in both of them to attract people that already had the original compilation of every other major story)

- Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary

James Bond is a rather poor comparison for milking...

I wouldn't exactly call these two points "milking."

The Comic version of Fall of Reach is actually quite good and it's great to actually SEE those events. Plus, it lets us see Blue Team's faces, which is great.

And fans have been begging for a CE remake since Halo 3. I'd hardly call it milking. 343 is just giving the fans what they wanted. Plus it isn't even a full priced game.

Well from my personal experience I consider milking to be a company basically squeezing everything they can out of existing things before their value runs out regardless of the quality of said product. Now I am in agreement with you on the the graphic novel for The Fall of Reach being great and the remade CE being something the fans want and looking extremely promising at that from what has been shown, but it doesn't change the fact that 343i is still sticking to established grounds at the moment. Now perhaps they'll move on to full production on expanding the universe once Reach is theirs and Halo 4 comes out, but at present there still isn't much in terms of tapping into new grounds in the Haloverse.

Feel the love

When you milk a series you still get some lumpy glasses of milk. The Halo trilogy would have been perfect. A few bad games and the reputation starts to crumble.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

This "milking" claim people have is getting cheesy.
