2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

Okay, I don't no whether this has been brought up before or not...so please don't kill me if so.

I was just thinking a minute ago about a cool new feature for B.net. I was posting and it hit me, like BLAM! On most other forums, which are suckier than here, I did notice that at the top or usually the bottom or both...they have moderators who are logged in and active. You can click on names and PM the moderator instantly.

So here is my idea:

Why not have a similar feature here on B.net. Have logged in Moderators names appear at the top of each thread, and link them to their PM so you can PM them instantly if you need assistance or for a good reason, like you see spam...PM the mod instantly and it gets taken care of faster. Usually I have to go here to find a mods name that I can click on and PM. It takes some time. I think that this would be a practical feature and could reduce non-sense faster and it would provide a feeling in the user that they are being watched...I know we are always watched, but this would drive the point home and it would provide for faster contact.

If anyone finds a problem with this idea, please be polite and critique it. I ask for you to be polite and in return I will respect you. Thanks.

I remember this being brought up before. A strong negative point was that spammers would be able to easily see if any moderators were online(or not online) in that, or any other forums.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

The problem with this is Spammers can wait till Mods arnt on then attack.

Why did you even bother posting that? It seems like the point has been made. There's no reason to just quote it. Just my opinion =/

But I totally think this idea would be good. It has been brought up before, but if the moderators not being online is posing a problem then just name some more moderators.

Right, I know. I thought of that. The good thing is now there is the Anti-Spam filter. And I think you can only create 10 topics per day. So they would not spam it up a-lot. And when the mod came back on, he would just blacklist the spammer. I still think it is a good idea. If anything, it could be set up to have a "dummy" mod appear so a "mod" is on all the time. It would still be intimidating. If Shishka isn't scary enough for them...

Agreed on point one.

I have to disagree with point two. I say that merely because picking a moderator is most likely a harder process than simply picking people out. You need responsible people, who know the rules well, can be trusted with the powers, is active, has good grammar, and probably several other things I'm forgetting. It's somewhat hard to find people who fit all of that by merely looking at what they post over the course of a couple of months, much less a couple of days. (And to make it even more difficult, you have people who actually fit the "wanna-be mod" profile, in that they only pretend to be good members in the hopes of becoming a mod.)

I do remember bringing this idea up a while back. And I have to say I would rather have people not spamming for fear of being banned immediately than spamming the forums because they know that they can have their fun for a while.

Or, how about there is a "Send Message to Moderator" button which pm's any moderator who has accessed b.net in the last 10 minutes. If no moderators are on then it just wait in a queue. That way you can message moderators easily without showing who is active and who isn't.

What if they have a mod of the day. That way you know that the mod of the day may be on, but it doesn't tip off anyone who would cause problems.

That feature alone would cripple bungie.net.

Also, spammers would spam pm them. But a different feature with the same results (PMing moderators) that spammers wouldn't be able to utilize would certainly be welcomed.

It would be better if it had a link at the bottom called "Report To Online Moderators" so that it would send a msg to the online mods. Then the users wouldnt know who they sent the msg to are if the mods are online.

Those are both good ideas, either way we need something that can be used in a time of panic, say a Spam war.

agreed. Showing which moderators are on is not a good idea because it also shows when moderators aren't on, and spammers would go wild. A system that sends a message to a mod is much easyer. It would be best to push a "message a Ninja" button. Then what ever you write goes to a Ninja who is on. If there are no moderators who are on, it goes to the inbox of the first one that logs in, or a joint moderator inbox. I know they have an E-mail account or something, but it would be easyer if it were a bungie.net system.

But it would not need to be obvious how to message an online ninja, because then they would get bombarded with too many messages.

Well these are all great ideas, but how can we be sure that the Web Team/Achronos is looking at them? Or listening? I dare not think of PM'ing him...just because if the Webmaster has a peek, well then it is history. But I do believe that if we have a "Report to Online Ninja's" button, it would be used fairly. I don't think there will too many idiots who would spam it, and if so it would be a short trip and a swift kick out of here.
