Subject: Political threads used to be allowed, you should allow them again

They were originally allowed here, and there were no problems, so we should allow them again. As you can see, there's absolutely nothing against political threads:

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

No problems, what website have you been going to? Political threads turn into flame wars of people who sometimes don't even know what they're talking about.

Why make them when the only thing they cause is unproductive conflict?

They didn't for the first 10+ years that this site existed and they were allowed.

It's usually good to show proof with your comeback. Links would be nice.

I can't deny that since I wasn't here then, but I am here now and seeing the present community...
... differences make arguements.

And we already have political discussions here to an extent, such as all of the times we slip by past Recon Number 54, and he doesn't see us. And they don't turn into circle jerking flame wars. Also, threads like these which are nominally political:

Well this is the furthest you can see back to where it will let you view the off-topic section, or as we now call it, The Flood. As you can see, it's relatively civil: http://web.archive.org/web/20041010124721/http://www.bungie.n et/Forums/topics.aspx?forumID=10

Those are current events, not really political. When you start getting into the real left wing v. right wing that's the problem. That's politics.

Your new link to the past threads were before B.net became truly popular, hardly anyone came here with the intent to be trolls.

I know you posted another post, but I'm going to start with these two links. The first one isn't political as much a news cast of Libya events. I skimmed it I admit, but it seems more a statement on world events than political disscussion. The second is about britian laws that I don't even know of, but seemed civil enough. If this is what you meant I won't fight it, but some people will take it to something that shouldn't be allowed so I see why it isn't accepted.

This is exactly what happens. People can go to HuffPo for their political fix.

Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

We should not allow them. At all.

and there were no problems, so we should allow them again.
This is more an example of cause and effect than "political threads were removed for no reason".

There are some sensible users on this site who are capable of holding decent discussion, but they are heavily outnumbered by users who are immature and quickly resort to flaming. Political discussions draw in flaming more than most other topics, and if allowed would need to be constantly monitored for flaming. Rather than constantly monitoring them it's easier to merely ban them in general. There are plenty of other sites on the internet where political discussions are allowed and Bungie.net doesn't need to be one of them.

I've seen more flaming go on in CoD vs Battlefield threads than I have in political threads.

HuffPo is hardly a reliable source, they're extremely left-wing biased.

That's because Battlefield is awesome.
Also, I could say I've seen more flaming in political threads than Battlefield vs. COD, which I have. It is all perspective.

Whisper Game Studios - shhhh, it's a public secret.
Webcam MVP
Sarsion.net
Bnet PM Policy

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

Religion and Politics tend not to be very good topics for large forums, and are much nicer to moderate and keep a close eye on in smaller forums.

For example, over on Whisper Game Studios' website, we have our very own dedicated Political & Religious forum, and we make sure that we emphasis that everyone should be respectful of everyone's opinions, beliefs and standpoints. It's actually a great place to develop your thoughts on topics and debates are a regular thing over there.

I just think that Bungie doesn't want the discussion on their site. The less - I suppose - liable they are, the better.

And this justifies allowing political threads how?
