My example.

I really don't have much to back my position aside from that I can't even properly address the issue I'm trying to discuss.

It's pretty damn frustrating.

"Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -Plato

According to the rues it is not.

It depends entirely on which moderator is online and how much piss was in their morning cornflakes. We've all seen people banned for weeks for in-context, topical, unoffensive avoids and we've all seen moderators do it themselves. It's one of the many cases of having to ignore the spirit of the rules and follow them to the letter if you wish to be sure of avoiding a stupid ban.

But hey, even if you intentionally allowed yourself to be filtered, you'd be running the gauntlet there for the similarly inconsitently monitored politics rule.

Do NOT send me Recruitment Letters, doing so will get you blocked faster than you can say "Huh?"

I agree with this guy, my last ban(warned same thing) was for posting a thread in the wrong forum. In actuallity said Ninja meant to ban the creator of the thread and somehow hit me instead, but hey still happened.

I don't see why words pertaining to... see I want to say -blam!- orientation but I can't even say that.

I think these words are put in place as this used to primarily be a website dedicated to gaming discussion. I don't think that when the words were added to the list of profanities it was thought that they would ever be used in a mature discussion.

Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

Nope. Especially not since you started a thread about a political topic. That is cause for banning.

Profanity is a product of context, not of vocabulary.

My face after I read that.

Let's get two things straight:

1. I didn't create the thread linked in the original post.
2. That thread, while it's tip-towing that line, is neither political or religious.

Nope.

Suck it Red!

I don't think your example would be cause for a ban because they did not use any invisible symbols, etc for a word that is normally blammed out to be shown, they are using a non-blocked word. But it really depends on the ninja I guess since it is toeing the poli/religious line.

That's not what I'm asking.

i am not shawn from youtube, I created this username because I thought it was an unique name but if I could change it I would since it did not belong to me originally

I would have to say that although it may be permissible sometimes to use curse words, we have to abide by Bungie's rules in the forum. Remember we don't have any rights.

From Cyro to Meta

is it ok to break the law?

  • 06.26.2011 6:34 PM PDT

Does anyone even read these?

Ghey shouldn't be censored full stop. I guess you could say same-sex in that circumstance but saying ghey is easier in many other scenarios.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I don't think g should be unfiltered, but rather -blam!--blam!-ity.

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

No you -blam!- moron. jk,jk

but srsly, i dont think so

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

I think there are times where it is more appropriate to bypass the profanity filter (at least to the extent where people know which word your are referencing).

For example, if you were having a WWII discussion in the flood or comparing Halo to WWII in the Universe the name of a certain German political party may come up completely in context. While it is never necessary to directly bypass the filter (invisible symbols or whatever) but it can be necessary to directly reference a censored word.

I support PORYGON.

"Try speaking American, it's the only language I understand"-Bandit Keith

"Alas poor Yorik, I knew him... IN AMERICA."-Bandit Keith

I don't think so. But then again it depends on context. I mean if you could use a different word instead, like same sex instead of the g word, it would suffice. It helps but it could also depend on the moderator.

That word really shouldn't be filtered but there's no need for the use of profanity in a gaming website... Besides, people would abuse it.

There's no need for the use of avatars either, but I don't see people filling this forum with complaints about 'all those damm unneeded avatars in the forum'

Indeed it is, the profanity filer can inadvertently cut a bloody swath through the English language.

It's not okay because it's against the rules, but most of the time people don't get in trouble for it, as far as I know. However, I don't condone doing so. I even type out "-blam!-" instead of just typing the word.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

I would certainly hope it would be O.K.

The consequence of each evasion of the profanity filter should be levied out based on the context of the evasion. That should really apply to every rule on here. Rules are generalizations meant to address the majority of situations; independent thought is needed to assess and appropriately address the rest.

  • 06.26.2011 8:57 PM PDT

Oh hey, I don't know why you're reading this, but have fun.

It should depend on the context of what you're discussing/writing.
