did anyone find it too difficult to read? like is it written in a way that just makes you want to stop or is it worth the read? I've read all other Halo books...

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

I haven't read Cryptum so far, but going by other people's reviews in here, it must be the best Halo novel so far.

If you've read all the other Halo books then you should enjoy it. If you're into action there's not a lot of it but it's very interesting and delves a lot into the forerunners. Definitely worth a read if you're a Halo fan and if you've read the other books.

It's essentially one mind explosion after another. In a good way that is.

k i'll read it, does it make you understand the Halo rings etc more or is it more of a stand alone story based a long time ago?

I haven't read it since it first came out so I could be wrong about a few things but you learn about:

Why the Ark was made
How the flood was first introduced into the galaxy
Forerunner culture
Why the rings were made
and who and what the Precursors are.

I could be missing some things but those are the basics from what I can remember and the ones that I can tell you about without spoiling much.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Meh, it's worth reading just to expand your knowledge of the Haloverse. I don't really like it at all though.

Halo Cryptum is a very good novel, but beware it is very different from the previous six full length novels. The Halo book pre-Cryptum are all action adventure books. Cryptum diverges from action-adventure to a more character driven story.

At first, I was waiting for the action to commence in Cryptum, but once I realized and accepted what Crytpum was, I appreciated it much more.

I highly recommend you listen to the Halo Waypoing podcast "Sparkcast" with Greg Bear being interviewed. In a manner the perfectly reflects 343i's complete inability to operate a functional webpage, the podcasts page on Halo Waypoint is blank. There are only three total, so look on iTunes or Zune for it. The Greg Bear podcast gives insight to the writing process and how he has worked with Frankie to develop the story. Greg Bear is going to write all three Forerunner novels. I thought the next Forerunner novel was coming out this year, but Karen Traviss' Halo novel has been announced for release this fall. I don't know if they will still release the next Forerunner book as well, or if it has been pushed back a year.

I devoured the book. I loved it so much, I had to get up and jump around or something similar from time to time to digest what I was reading.
