In all honesty, I think Bungie did absolutely perfect with Halo 2, except Mercy's death.

It was kind of... odd. In all honesty, when I went back to Halo 2 today, I completely forgot he was in the game since he was so insignificant.

But anyway, don't Truth and Mercy hold the same amount of power? When Truth was all like "NO DUN HALP HIM TEH GR8 JURNEE WAITZ FO NO1", couldn't have Mercy just fired back at Tartarus, "YA IT DUZ NAO HALP ME U FUZZY COWCH PUHTATO!".

It just seemed like an odd death, but I guess it was necessary to show how deranged Truth really is.

When I meet girls at the bars I don't get their numbers, I get their gamertags...

But looking back on it, it did seem a little akward. Guess it was just to show how power hungry/deranged Truth was.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

IT WAS PERFECT

What it was was a thematic basing.

When Mercy died, Truth took on a dictatorial role, yes that is so. However, what does it mean thematically? When Mercy came under the peril of the infection form, The Covenant leadership lost Mercy, (the person,)as much as they lost Mercy, (the character trait.)

Truth no longer had any mercy, thus not giving it to Mercy...

As you can see, the same happened on a much larger and subtle scale with Regret. It is quite brilliant, if you were to ask me. That is one of my favorite things about Halo 2, in fact.

Oh my.

How did I never see that?

Truth lost all MERCY for MERCY when he died.

I feel stupid.

That's fine. To be honest I only noticed this after doing a symbolism thesis on Catcher in the Rye a while back. I was just as stunned, trust me. Going from awkward comparisons in a mediocre piece off literature to a grandiose similarity of the same bearing in an excellent story being Halo 2 was awesome.

Wow Commander, I just got that. Let me make sure I understand you:

The three Profits were like one personality....Regret, Truth and Mercy.

When Mercy was killed there was no more Mercy and all that was left of the one personality was Truth and Regret. Maybe that's why their thinking went south, the balance was off.

Is that what you are saying? Heh, I've just never thought about this much.

Read Contact Harvest. It will explain how the three prophets came to power, and why they decided to mark the humans unpure.

you will find many secrets and information on the covenants culture and the way they live in high charity.

This is the book you want to read if your interested in finding out how the war started and how the three prophets rise to power withen the covenant.

This book is written by bungie employee Joe Staten, The guy behind most of halo2's story and cinimatics.

Black Ops 2 I run two accounts warmup only at 1.97kdr...real is at 3.77. i'm in master division 4 league play. pm 4 clan inv...must have 2.5 kdr or better

Yeah, because the ending was perfect. The game has too many flaws for me to put into 10,000 characters.

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Ahhh, I did one of those...

This is a Reach account that I created the day they announced his name in a bnet weekly update. Any stats regarding ODST or Halo 3 are irrelevant. Also, Halo CE master race. Halo 1 > other halo games > other games.

Account Status: Silver :(

Mercy was stupid. How could those things win a war against Elites to become their leaders, but can't even hold off a little flood parasite.

Lol, all video games can be thought of as being stupid, depending on the player/viewer. It's all make believe anyway.

Speaking of holding off a little flood parasite, the Marines didn't fare too well in CE at first encounter and it's a good thing because the flood were part of a good story line, imo. I consider the flood as one Boss, like the Borg and I consider them a pretty tough Boss to fight but each to his own.

First, the Prophets were defeating the Elites because of the Forerunner Keyship, which allowed them to dominate in space. However, 10 Prophets=1 Elite on the ground.

Second, noone was defeated, they eventually realized that their fighting was getting them nowhere, so they stopped. The reason the Prophets were in power was because they had the most knowledge of the Forerunners, which is what their religion was centred around.

Along the way, they added more species to the Covenant so long as they believed in the Forerunners as Gods.

Prophets=Leaders
Elites=Warriors

>>ALERT<<

Class 1337 "noob sauce" inbound; Troll units cleared to engage.

I'm not entirely sure Mercy was able to tell Tartarus to help him.

I mean, he kinda, y'know... had an infection form drilling through his neck.

Good point, I always kinda thought Tart had his own agenda going while feigning allegiance.

I just see the Brutes as being nothing more than a horde of power-hungry animals... or maybe they're just as stupid/ignorant as they look, sound and act.

I mean, why else would Tartarus and the rest of the Brutes continue to serve the Prophets even after Guilty Spark told them, like, right in their faces what the Halo Array was used for?

I don't know much of the canon, but i can only imagine it like the 1st triumph of the Romans with Julius Caesar and the rest. Caesar was like Truth and bent on total power i would say even though he and the other members were supposed to be equal.

Why do soldiers fight wars they don't believe in...

Same idea.

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

Truth is just another power hungry delusional character. He left Mercy to die to become the sole leader of the covies. In his own twisted way, he wanted to become a god but instead truth became a flood host and then got stabbed.

At least Bungie could have allowed us to kill the 3 prophets personally. Regret came back as graveminds lackey, Mercy got killed off by the flood in a cutscene, and Truth got killed by both the flood and arbiters blade during a cutscene without even fighting him.
