Subject: A bomb on the super carrier?!

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank god that such men lived. ----------- No Bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. (both by George S. Patton jr.)

Last time I checked it was the slipspace engine that they put on the super carrier in Halo: Reach. So why does everyone say it is a bomb? Correct me if I'm wrong but all it did was make a slipspace portal on the middle of the carrier. That in turn made that part of the ship jump to a random point right?

Intolerance is the highest level of stupidity and inbred thinking.

While you are right that it was a slipspace engine that they used, it really would be better described as a bomb. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they disabled all of the engine's fail safes, and then activated it near the super carrier. Since the engine wasn't activated with any coordinates (hence why they disabled the fail safes), everything caught within the engine's radius was sent to random location in space, in trillions and trillions of tiny little pieces.

It's not like they simply activated the engine and cut out a chunk of the ship, and sent it elsewhere. They literally blew the chunk of the super carrier apart. Hence, why it's considered a bomb.

Ok thanks that definably makes since.

That's not how Slipspace works though, it doesn't disintegrate things (unless it's both inside and outside as was the case with some of the buildings in Regret's jump to Delta Halo in Halo 2 or the case with the Long Night of Solace). The Solace was destroyed because the aft and bow sections didn't make it into the portal, only the midships area. The midships and the Corvette are in tact on the other side of wherever the portal went. What gave you the idea that it disintegrated the midships of the Solace and the entire Corvette carrying the "bomb".

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

When slipspace cores are not used properly (or faulty) they can send you into other dimensions/time periods/etc.

This is what was done in reach.
