if he doesn't die i will be mad, either that or he retires and becomes obese

I hope he doesn't die. He is the face of the franchise, and to kill him off will instantly take away the impact he had through all his adventures.

At the same time, I don't want to see him crippled from old age, so much augmentation and the life of stress.

Like Halsey says in the books, 117 is lucky, and that is why he succeeds. Lets just see how long his luck will last.

He will be in another crisis involving money.

Get over yourself - drink vodka!

He could only die if it's a finale and there are many other people watching who can create a legend out of him.

Still, I prefer that he survives. I hope wherever he is headed there is a class 12 combat suit for him to use!

Ever see the end of Dead Man's Chest?

Jack Sparrow = John
Kraken = Gravemind/Prisoner
Barbossa = Thel

The very first thing you would expect is that chief would die at the end of the last game, mostly a heroic death. This is because in most of today's movies & games the main character always dies at the end, and its annoying and very common, I'm getting sick of this it needs a change, i think chief shouldn't die it would be to sad to see him leave (even though its a game, just think of it like watching a movie). anyway i didn't want to vote but i voted for missing in action I don't want him to die or retire.

I'm pretty sure you'll find the vast majority of protagonists survive whatever dangerous encounter and go the "happy ending" way. IMO, John should die or at least make his status ambiguous (for example, a Legendary Ending where you see only his gauntlet and his hand twitches or something).

They're going to go with the good ol' uncreative MIA ending to continue milking and mega-franchising Halo for the moola.

And Halo will continue to get staler and staler until its all mouldy and just plain bad, and not worthy to be called a game.

I think halo has the chance to go stale if they keep focusing on the Chief and don't develop him ingame as a character. I'm truly hoping human presence is minimal in Halo 4(aka no random UNSC officer telling chief what to do all the time), and master Chief gets lots of development as a character which was lacking in the trilogy.

I know a friend who is very, very eager to see Master Chief die, or get his ass majorly kicked. The reason is he's sick of the chief fanboys and wants it shown that Spartans (and the Chief) are not unstoppable gods.

Me? I'm half for MIA/retired, half for death. Bungie started ODST/other things with the statement of(if I remember right) "Halo is not Master Chief, we want to explore other characters stories." Basically, I want Chief to step out of the main hero role for the UNSC. Maybe still be around, maybe even show up in future halo games as a side character (whether it's during the Covenant war timeline game, or after halo 6), but out of the hero chair. Let's get new heroes and characters for halo.

I really, vehemently agree with you. And that "friend" you know, sounds a lot like how I think, exactly how I think come to think of it. >_>

Anyway, even though, I agree with your post, 150%, I do not think any of that is going to happen. I'm sorry, I just don't think I have much faith left in the Halo series, but I will update by thoughts as more information is released. But as it stands now, I don't see any of that happening, but who knows, they could develop his character, and show his weaknesses. But seeing as how Halo 4 has suffered the mega-franchising 'virus', it is likely a money-maker and box office detonator such as the Master Chief will not be getting any such 'human' treatment.

yes.

After enduring a truly taxing journey, John will fulfill his destiny and take up responsibility as protector of an ancient secret; never to see his home planet, Earth, again. Would be quite moving to have him encounter his Spartan comrades, from the books, and then have him have to say goodbye to them. They're practically family. Maybe, if she makes it that far, he'll even have to say goodbye to Cortana, too, before vanishing from existence.

EDIT: 343's given us hope for character development, for 'Chief. I hope we get something more akin to the books. I would like one scene where the 'Chief's life is put in serious danger. I would love to see him very vulnerable.

You know you play Halo too much when you hock a lugie in you girlfriends face and scream "BOOM HEADSHOT!" ;)

I want to say his death would make a great (and incredibly piss-off-ish) ending to the series, but I just have this feeling it'll be left like Halo 3 with the question unanswered. Except the question of what happens to him won't be answered this time, and we'll be forever doomed to contemplate his eventual fate.

He'll slip back to Earth and retire and have SPARTAN babies with Linda.

Linda was on the Pillar of Autum but it blew up.If if diden't well she was torn apart any way.she only lived because she was in cryo storage thats why she's not in the first room on halo. storage room,if she was unfrozen she would have died any way.I would know i read "almost" every book.and -blam!- the chief he dead

You clearly didn't read first strike or ghosts of onyx. Linda is very much alive.

Also, the cryo-chamber master Chief woke up in was not the only one on the PoA. I doubt their ENTIRE crew could sleep in those two small rooms.

First strike: Dr. Halsey REVIVES Linda.
Ghosts of Onyx: Linda, Will, and Fred travel to Onyx and join Kelly, Kurt, Halsey, and the Spartan 3 team.

Goodbye Bungie.

i hope they give the ending a "star wars" type of feel. at the end its filled with suspense. everything is good... for now.

basically, an ending that keeps our spirits up, but can only be explained with our imagination and creativity.
