The Zelda games are unrelated. Different universes, if you will.

Never say you're bored. Never say you're satisfied with the world. Never stop doubting or questioning things. Always wonder. Always think. But always take time to drop your guard, you don't have to be smart all the time.

Die, whatever this new/old threat is it's going to be to mutch.

Hawaiian Pride

hes going to float away in cryo in half of a forerunner ship. ok seriously if that happens that would be ridiculous. i hope he doesnt die but knowing his dumb ass hes prolly gonna put himself in that sort of situation

  • 06.30.2011 10:00 AM PDT

I hope it ends the way it began. I honestly thought the ending they had for the Chief was a fitting one.

  • 06.30.2011 10:02 AM PDT

the war with the covenant was his life, he was raised and trained to be a soldier in that war, with basicaly no other experiences in his life. The best fate for him is to die a heroic death.

Why do so many people want Chief to die? :/ While Halo's story does not revolve around Master Chief, he is the central character of the Halo Universe, to me killing him off would be like killing off Link in the Legend of Zelda series or killing off Mario...

So why do so many people want him to die? It's actually a little bit disturbing actually >_> I've never encountered fans of any series actually asking and wish for one of the favorite characters to be killed :/

You will find, that after three more games, even you will be sick of him.

Not likely, I don't ever get sick of characters I like or stories I really enjoy. I think killing Chief off would be the wrong idea, I really do.

The difference between killing Link in Zelda and killing the Chief is that the Master Chief's story is one, epic saga, where Link has a series of mini-adventures with no end. And at the end of the saga, what will he do?

If you've seen the Matrix *SPOILERS*

Neo sacrifices himself to save human kind, in a similar manner to a Messiah. The Master Chief would willingly do so to protect the universe if it came to it.

Halo isn't like Zelda, where there'll be hundreds of games for all eternity, never ending the story. 343i has said that they have the story planned out from beginning to end. It would be poetic for the Chief to die so the rest of us can live. That's his purpose.

Besides, he has no other reason to live but to fight. All of his friends are dead, and whatever life he could have had is gone. And all warriors die eventually. What matters is what they die for.

We're not asking for his death out of some sadistic need to see him die. We're asking for an emotional cap on the story.

Indeed. There are those of us out there who don't like the unstoppable killing machine with virtually no personality, believe it or not.

What do you think is Master Chief's fate by the end of this new trilogy? Will he retire, go missing in action, or actually die by the end?

to all the people who say dead, he is already dead as far as the rest of the universe knows, but he is a spartan, so he is MIA, or on vacation. by the end of the trilogy, i think he will have come back from being MIA (supposed dead) and returned to being MIA (supposed dead, possibly retired)

*edit* if they do kill him off, one of a few things must happen, [1] it is the end of this new trilogy, any more games in the halo universe do not include him directly. [11] he ends the trilogy, survives, but is MIA. he is not the protagonist of any new halo games, but he IS out there, [111] or he has to go into something to save the universe, he might die doing so, we dont see him die, but we dont see him walk away either meaning he could be alive, but ressurecting him is implausible. therefore avoiding actualy killing him, but effectively removing him from the universe as an active character.

this would be a good way to do finish his fight. but the halo universe is vast, there are hundreds of stories to tell, even when they are done with the chief the universe will survive.i have alot of respect for the chief, as a character of this universe, but there are alot of others i like almost asmuch, thel'vadam... yea you heard me!

Anyone who voted "dead" is wrong. Spartans never die, they're just missing in action.

"Word of God" would actually indicate otherwise in regards to the Legends of Zelda series, supposedly all the games are connected and in the same universe.

My primary reason for not wanting him die is actually because it would come across as overly cliched to me, especially for Halo's story, and even more so for Spartans, they've had far too much of that already. I think it would be far better and much more meaningful if they could find some other way to satisfactorily end it. I liked your idea of "dying" by ascending to some other state or something similar, it would be unique and would be far more satisfying than just outright having him die.

  • 06.30.2011 9:46 PM PDT

We fight for that which is lost in the hope that what is lost can be found.

I'm stuck between MIA and dead. I think he'll become a forerunner and live forever, watching over the human race.

I think killing him would be too cliche frankly, I'd prefer going MIA or something and becoming essentially the same sort of legend as King Arthur, you know returning only when need is greatest or something like that, or a promise of eventual return or something. Though ascension or something similar to that would be cool as well.

Gonna be at a Halo esque control-room-of-doom, take off his helmet and show us his face for a split second, and then die hitting the go-button.

That would be the only ending that could satisfy me.

  • 07.03.2011 10:46 PM PDT

All of the above, nah. Just imagine what that would be like.

Turkey

Well it'd be cool if he somehow wound up stranded on the same Shield World that the rest of the SII's and SIII's are currently stranded on. Or leave him stranded on some shield world without telling us its exact origin, leaving us to speculate for like 6 years until Halo 7 is announced out of nowhere.

Hell, maybe by then, Bungie will somehow be working on the Halo series again.
