Why can't we just discuss our opinions without pages and pages of the thread being about the posters therein rather than the topic presented?

Also, why did you discount the rest of my statement?

Because it (just like players of sub-optimal skill) are irrelevant.

Maybe you should take your own advice.

Ya know, the more I see your threads the more I think your a narcissist. You don't seem to care what your stir up so long as it puts you right at the center. But that's just my brutally honest opinion of you. As for the specific thread in question, your target audience is a bunch of kids. Did you not expect your thread to become a warzone?

Goat posts logical, well-written opinions. The only reason that those posts lead to flame wars is because most of the people in the Reach Forum are complete idiots.

Goat isn't the only case that this happens to. He's the most well-known, but there are numerous other Reach Forum regulars that get attacked and cause flame wars when they post logical, well-written opinions.

If the blame lies with Goat, then it also lies with every single person who has ever posted an intelligent thread in the Reach Forum and received more than ten replies.

The post is question was undoubtedly well-written, but far from logical. The title itself suggested a Halo shouldn't have a Campaign, which is so ridiculous it's troll worthy. He may say the title was hyberbole to incite a response, but an intelligent man such as himself should realise that sort of title is what pissed so many people off.

Roughly half of the respondents were intelligent enough to tell that the title was hyperbole. Goat's point wasn't necessarily that there shouldn't have been a campaign, but rather that the campaign that we got was absolutely terrible. (Which it was.)

The fact that only half of the respondents actually understood that the title was hyperbole is pretty pathetic, IMO.

My point -- and it doesn't just apply to Goat, he's merely one example of it -- is that any time an intelligent or logical thread gets significant attention in the Reach Forum, it will inevitably start a flame war. This is because most of the people in the Reach Forum are either trolls or complete idiots. It is the respondents that are the problem, not the OPs.

My ass.
And this, ladies and gents, is what we call "missing the point".

Try reading the post I made after that one, you absolute paragon of intelligence. :-|

Someone thinks a biiiiit too highly of themselves.

There was a thread in the flood about it. Am I in danger of becoming conceited for acknowledging my tendency to piss a bunch of people off en masse?

I just want to have good discussion. It's getting old when the replies are about "Goat you complain to much" or "Goat you're a spoiled brat" or "Goat you're a hypocrite" or "Goat you're an arrogant ass". I mean, does nobody read the title of the thread anymore? As soon as they see "A 3 Legged Goat" the thread becomes about me and not what I posted.

This type of double standard is ridiculous.

The hyperbole was to describe the quality of the Campaign. When I tried to change it I was greeted with an 'error' page.

Just because something upsets you, it doesn't mean that poster is a troll. Yet, so many people think I have time to waste trolling B.net.

I was going to defend myself and then I realized I would be a hypocrite for claiming to be intelligent if this passed over me.

You're right. >.>

But this thread isn't supposed to be about me. I'm trying to discover some way of communicating in the Reach forum without being stereotyped into any precanned category of the week.

Perhaps the goat needs a new pasture.

If you read this I command you to buy Skyrim.

Your OP was just WAY to harsh on the game. The Reach forum is full of raging kids so they will just spam that report button when they are offended. Your post did piss me off, but i was definitly surprised when it got flagged. Just post in the Waypoint forums instead.

EDIT: *Reads your above posts*

Why don't you just make an alt for when you post in the Reach forum?

Look man, I ain't trying to make enemies with you. Perhaps I can help you make your threads less hostile. Take that thread for example, the one about the campaign. People in the Reach forum will take EVERYTHING at face value. Your chosen thread title for example. Perhaps you could reword it?

The edit button and I are friends. I was going to reword it to "Campaign discussion: What Bungie could have done differently". But since it was reported, I can't edit the title. If I had explained myself more and dialed down the harsh undertones it would have been better received.

Oh well. There was still some good discussion in there.

Does anyone even read these?

I don't know of this thread.

  • 06.28.2011 3:31 AM PDT

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Happens to me all the time. I make a pro Reach thread and after 10 pages my post is reported.

It isn't a big deal as long as you aren't locked for no reason.

The enemy of my enemy shall die next.

I know the voices in my head are not real, but they have some great ideas.

Brown chicken Brown cow!

Like the Halo 3 forums and the Halo 2 forums before that, the most current Halo game forum will have everyone from proper, sensible posters to whiners and trolls. Unfortunately this will only diminish(sp) when Bungie's Next Big Thing(tm) happens and all the haters, moaners and trolls and whatnot move on, leaving (on the whole) people with a more sensible approach to discussion.

I remember this exact same type of thread when Halo 3 was the big thing.

No I freaking told you to cut the hose off, if i told to pull it off then i would have said pull it off. Now you broke the AC you dumb ass.

When the OP was uncensored the following day, I was going to edit it and make it a little more constructive. To my dismay, I was unable to edit the post because it had been previously reported. When I try to edit it, I am graced by an error page instead. This is the second time this has happened to me, and to be quite honest it's getting to be really ridiculous.

This is why you spend six months writing a thread so that no sane individual can disagree with it and nobody finds it offensive.

This would be great but sane people rarely post in the game forums.

ATTENTION MODERATORS. My latest ban (14-day ban from Qbix89) is not legitimate, take a look for yourself. Please review this before considering me a "repeat offender". Thank you.

The report feature was not obviously designed for such a high population of forumgoers and, thus, is being abused, sending logical, constructive posts behind a censored view.

The Halo: Reach forum has the highest population than any other forum on Bungie.net, and by a long shot. The Flood may be the second, but their attitudes are simply not the same as many Halo: Reach forum forumgoers. I don't see any constructive posts in The Flood forum being censored. It's obviously the attitude of the people who come to the Halo: Reach forum. They're selfish, ignorant, idiots.

Have fun trying to change that. You would probably get more positive and constructive responses in /v/ rather than the Halo: Reach forum (or what I now like to call "Bungie's /b/").

If the effect (regardless of your intent) of a post is trolling in another forum, don't do it. Just keep up with your threads that have strong opinions and be ready to request a lock or edit your thoughts before it gets out of hand. To a certain extent you are responsible for the type of reactions you encourage.
