"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

To be honest, when you post a thread you post it as if it were fact, and if someone disagrees with you then you start acting high and mighty towards them because you've "done the research."

If the majority of people are reporting your post, there is something wrong with it, even if you can't see it. People simply won't care what you have to say if you're being a jerk towards them.

I suggest changing your style by acting a bit nicer and more humble.

Hello! I'm Bunie.net's resident medical student (hell i'm sure there are more but I'm the only one who openly declares it!) I love my emblem, and I am periodically active.
I have a Twitter

Critiscism should always be allowed, it is the corner stone of debate, this uniformed mass of robots who simply post in support of Bungie evey time should be tackled, I <7 Bungie, but following them mindlessly is pointless, what's the point of a discussion board with no discussion!?

  • 06.28.2011 2:47 PM PDT

Since you cannot do good to all, you are to pay special attention to those who, by the accidents of time, or place, or circumstances, are brought into closer connection with you.
Augustine of Hippo

I can't prove it, but I can say it.
Stephen Colbert

i am not shawn from youtube, I created this username because I thought it was an unique name but if I could change it I would since it did not belong to me originally

In distinguishing a sincere Poster who is actually wants to post his/her opinion, from an troll who wants to spark flame wars across the internet, one must look at the fruit produced from his opinion.
I honestly believe from what I've read here that you meant good, but how you have expressed it was too much.

Civilized discussion and criticism is all well and good, but that's not what traditionally happens around here.

It's the tone of such criticism that usually draws ire from people. I have no problem with anyone's opinion, so long as they realize that it's just that... their opinion. They may be right, they may be wrong, but lets at least try to discuss it without turning into a flame war.

The problem starts when the opinion is stated as belligerent and stubborn fact. When you start from there, there is nothing that can be discussed.

Whoo.

To be fair you do troll, like a lot.

Like when you complain about things simply to complain about them without trying to reach any point or allowing whoever read the post to take away anything from it except from the fact that you find such a thing "annoying"/"stupid".

Earlier you used to say at least something constructive within your critisms but in some of the more recent of the threads I have seen you post that I have read I haven't been able to take anything away from it, not been able to figure out some way to improve upon the game from said criticism.

Take some of his advice.

I've read a couple of your posts and I can see the real reasoning behind them, but occasionally I also see some sentences that (maybe not purposefully) "show off" something. For example;

I'm sure most of B.net is aware

Even if you didn't mean it, saying that most of B.net is aware shows (to some people) that perhaps you think you're "internet famous" and that sets an image in their mind of an ego-seeking troll.

Overall, just stick with what Duardo said and, as the B.net saying go's, keep it clean.

(Sorry for posting in Bold, just felt like it :D)

Yet another perfect example of someone expecting every single person that reads bungie.net to read an entire post before posting.

I was merely remarking on the irony that you would post on a thread without reading the OP when we're talking about people who don't read the OP.

I find that funny.

The post is question was undoubtedly well-written, but far from logical. The title itself suggested a Halo shouldn't have a Campaign, which is so ridiculous it's troll worthy. He may say the title was hyberbole to incite a response, but an intelligent man such as himself should realise that sort of title is what pissed so many people off.

Just because your opinion differs from someone else's doesn't make him a potential troll. The Reach forum has been trolled so hard in the past that now they are calling everyone and their mothers trolls.

I've read the thread, and it wasn't a troll post. I haven't seen Goat troll the forums yet...

He's direct. There isn't something wrong with the post if he isn't violating the rules, you're just interpreting the rules now Duardo. Being direct isn't being a jerk, and defending your opinion isn't being a jerk either.

And opinion is implicit in almost every forum post on the website. Saying "In my opinion" is redundant and makes the argument seem weak.

There's a difference between expressing an opinion by being direct and asserting your opinion as fact; then telling people, when they express their opinion, that they're wrong because they're not as good as you.

Correct, sometimes the elitist attitude shows through.

The People have the power to overrule your opinion, even if it is right. Anyone who disagrees is a Communist, and deserving of a ban.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

It's not so much what Goat says that bugs me, don't get me wrong I seem to disagree with him plenty, but the folks who come to his aid. Simply coming in to say his word is the truth is just as bad as folks saying he is wrong and never reinforcing why you think that way.

  • 06.28.2011 4:48 PM PDT

3LG is not a troll. Trolls live under bridges and are mythical creatures. They have no internet connectivity.

As for the topic: Watch out for the titles. Because many people don't read "walls of text" (Seriously, 1000 words is a wall? Did these people go to high school?) so they just reply based on the statement of the title.

The flamed topic in question was considered a troll statement, even though the content was less than trollworthy.

But yes, there should be very slight bans for reporting things that shouldn't be reported.
Report=/=dislike.

  • 06.28.2011 4:56 PM PDT

Oh hey, I don't know why you're reading this, but have fun.

Because in the Reach forum, anyone who doesn't think Reach is perfect is a troll. Goat, you should know this.

You're right, being direct and/or defending your opinion doesn't necessarily mean you are being a jerk, but, looking at the OP's posts, there seems to be some overlapping. And though you say there are no rules being broken, that does not mean there isn't anything wrong with the post, and you must remember the biggest rule of all on this site: "Play nice".

Have you considered maybe people agree with him because he makes valid points?

I almost completely disagree with Goat when it comes to multiplayer, however, when he makes a thread about multiplayer, I don't start calling him a troll and a jerk because our opinions don't align. I just accept the very easy concept that people's opinions differ from one another, and make my case.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

I find the report buttons' lack of functionality in some cases, more of a problem than its abuse in others.

Interpreting the rules is my job, bro.

I never said that being direct was being a jerk. I just said that when states his opinion as fact and that everyone else is wrong, then he can seem a little jerkish. It's the elitist attitude that people don't like. You may not think he does, and maybe he doesn't think he does, but it seems plenty of other people do.
