If an MLG player skillfully mastered the timing of sword block, and could do it almost every time, would that make it something everyone could agree with, and a good competitive mechanic?
I think more people would praise the MLG player for his skill than blame his win on sword block.
It would be skillfull if it wasn't based 50% on connection. But it is, which is one reason why it is stupid.
I believe, though, that sword block is based on skill, solely for the fact that without the proper timing, it doesn't work, and you just take a face full of plasma anyway.If something requires both luck and is based almost solely on connection, chances are that it isn't very skillful at all.
I wish there was some sort of code or something we could examine to PROVE that it has a RNG factor, though.
Really, until I see something like that, I don't really believe something combat-based would be directed by a random numbers game. Especially in an FPS. Maybe an equation regarding remaining shields and/or health, but I don't think it would be completely random.
