So it's safe to say that I have a better understanding of how this game works at a competitive level. And at a competitive level, Armor Lock and Sword Block are retarded.

Personally, I think my stats are slightly above-average.

Lolno, you're horribad.

If you can back up your opinion with some sort of stat or factual information, I may actually agree.

"Horribad" isn't exactly a very concrete argument.

You're bad.

Anyone who claims the AR takes skill ought to shoot himself in the head. Preferably with the AR because they'll most likely miss with any other weapon.

So if enough people say it, it must be true!

.. Not really.

Again, however, this is an opinion.

If an MLG player skillfully mastered the timing of sword block, and could do it almost every time, would that make it something everyone could agree with, and a good competitive mechanic?

I think more people would praise the MLG player for his skill than blame his win on sword block.

It would be skillfull if it wasn't based 50% on connection. But it is, which is one reason why it is stupid.

One of the many reasons.

Not only is sword block completely illogical to the sword user, but it is seriously 1/3 connection, 1/3 luck, and 1/3 timing.

It's essentially random.

I believe, though, that sword block is based on skill, solely for the fact that without the proper timing, it doesn't work, and you just take a face full of plasma anyway.

If something requires both luck and is based almost solely on connection, chances are that it isn't very skillful at all.

I wish there was some sort of code or something we could examine to PROVE that it has a RNG factor, though.

Really, until I see something like that, I don't really believe something combat-based would be directed by a random numbers game. Especially in an FPS. Maybe an equation regarding remaining shields and/or health, but I don't think it would be completely random.

Bloom.

Yes, technically it isn't random, as it has a set code, but the results it produce are (very frequently) random. If one of the absolute hugest factors of the game is basically random, I wouldn't doubt some miniscule (speaking relatively, of course) mechanic could be random.

. . . based almost solely on connection . . .

Just pointing out the obvious, but I'd think anytime you play a game online (not just in isolated incidences), all aspects of it are totally dependent upon the connection of all players.

At the end of the day, I'm personally of the mind-set that I don't have to like what happens in a game, but I sure as hell won't bother wasting my breath or time whining/complaining about a meaningless digital experience.

Technically speaking, any sort of "spread" could be considered random. Look at the BR in Halo 3. The 3 shot spread wasn't guaranteed to hit one specific point anywhere.

I apply the same concept to the bloom on the DMR. The spread is limited to the space inside of the reticle. Technically, it's random, but bloom itself shouldn't be considered random.

Pace the shots to limit the spread.

  • 06.29.2011 5:37 PM PDT

Hi.

Pace the shots to limit the spread.
Obviously.

But that's not what happens. A huge amount of the best players almost exclusively spam and very often beat perfect pacers.

Someone needs to figure out a system that lacks so much randomness, because H3's BR's results were way too random, but the DMR's are just as bad.

Also armor abilities is what makes Halo: Reach different from all the Halo's. I'm pretty much sure that some Halo fans (including myself) where tired of the same formula. And just so you know that there are ways to counter Armor Lock. The problem is that you people don't think.
And before you call me an AL LOVER, I don't use it very often since I use Hologram, Invisibility, and Sprint.

Seriously I'm so tired of seeing threads like this. No matter what's your complain on armor lock it's not going to be removed entirely.

Do they simply spray and pray? Or do they at least keep the reticle the size of the target's head?

Keeping the "random" inside of your target at least, I believe, is skill and a guaranteed shot, and not spamming or however you wish to say it.

You can spam to your heart's delight as long as some part of the expanded reticle is over some part of the opponents body.

Using the DMR is not a science, it's a series of preferences because nothing is set. That's what's wrong with it. You can shoot it however you want and you have a chance of winning, as long as some part of the reticle has part of the opponent in it.

Armor Lock has no place in FFA games. It should be removed from Rumble Pit. That or severely nerfed.

Armor Lock is completely illogical in FFA. The only even slightly notable argument Armor Lock has for itself is that it supports an environment of teamwork.

LOL, real rap is not made for you, white people.

We don't expect you to "get it." And you don't, as you've made abundantly clear through your numerous embarrassing dances, karaoke performances, ignorant haters, and pitiful imitators.

You giving your opinion on rap is like a dog watching TV. It's kind of cute because it LOOKS like he knows what's going on, but you know he really has no actual ability to comprehend it.

Hmm... Do you recall a cancelled Live game called "1 vs 100". It had achievements; a total of 200 gamerscore. To earn those achievements, you had to play the game's online multiplayer (which is all the game actually was). The game was then completely removed from Live due to a low population.

The moral of this story is that MS can do whatever the -blam!- they want with their games.
