Armour lock only benefits you in certain situations:
grenade blocking
melee combat
team play

It also has its downsides:
you are still for up to 5 seconds, awaiting a well placed sniper headshot, allowing the enemy team to surround you, or a grenade timed for when you pop out.

It really isn't that big a problem.
In the old games grenades had to be toned down, people complained about "charge and stick" and here we are with a direct solution to that problem.

The other armour abilities have their benefits too:
invisibility - one person on your team using this can blind the entire enemy teams radar
hologram - can confuse enemy players into wasting ammo or falling prey to assasination. Team use is far more effective
jetpack - height advantage for: headshots, rockets and grenades. Also easier map manouverbility
sprint - escape, get power weapons at start of a match, sword charge.

The fact is each and every armour ability has its benfit and some work better in team use.

armour lock is one of these. Get used to it.
Rofl dude. I know, I know. Maybe you didn't get from my post that I don't have anything against armor lock. I actually support it. I agree that armor lock is balanced, but in more competitive environments AL can be frustrating (not to me, but to others). That's why I suggest having the AA's as a pickup, so that everyone is happy, even the competitive types.

Look whose side someone is on before you work out your comment...
most armor lock supporters aren't that bright are they.

My qualm is actually more so with Sword Block, which is what ended up killing you in the end. Which was very unfair, BTW.

But if not for the AL, he wouldn't have been put on even playing ground to be killed by the block.

Both are equally dumb.

Exactly!

Well put.

Hello. Reach is the first Halo game I have played and my style is mostly recreational.

That sword block from behind was ridiculous. No skill at all, or even should be possible at all.

Yep.

Not only is Armor Lock entirely flawed just by simply the basic idea of it, but having broken mechanics like 360 turn-around, frosting (where they don't take damage for x amount of time after unlocking), sticky grenade shedding, etc. is completely preposterous.

It would be interesting to see how the game played with Armor Lock lacking all of the idiotic features it has now.

Spam is okay, as long as it is not excessive.
Retardation is frowned upon, but somewhat acceptable.

It just happened to me. Joyus

Plus I used AL that game and did the exact same thing to someone else... but I killed them. It was ridiculous. I felt sorry afterwards.

Hi.

WOW.

  • 06.30.2011 6:10 PM PDT

Uh huh. So the decision to balance out power weapons is a poor one?

Lets look at the sniper and rocket. The classic power weapons. Both can kill quickly and efficiently, and both have a small amount of ammo. Balanced? I think so. Players can't dominate the map with them because, if they try, they run out of ammo.

The sword? In halo 2 and 3 it had the ability to dominate a game. It had, and still has, substantial ammo for a weapon that powerful. So, rather than knocking it down, Bungie decided players could block it by AL or their fist.

I think it gives players a fighting chance against an overpowered weapon. It balances the system.

Rockets and Sniper dominate from any range while Sword in useless at all ranges but one.

A Sniper Spree or 4 consecutive kills with Rockets is way more common than a simple Sword Spree.

Also, the Sniper is now idiot-proof (literally the worst players can use it effectively) and the Rockets (in relation to Halo 3) are even more idiot-proof than before.

ALSO, movement speed and jump height have been decreased, making rockets and snipe even further easier to use, while those two settings have no effects on Sword.

Again, why not take the direct approach to solving the problem and simply increase the time it takes to draw the Sword after coming out of Sprint, rather than completely ruining the Sword for all users? If you think solving a problem indirectly (sword block) works better than directly (increasing draw time), you need a check-up.

Bungie should consider investing in precipitation gathering nets for these forums. The sheer amount of tears shed by anyone who's been destroyed by armor lock, jet pack, grenades, and the AR could continuously operate hydroelectric dams, irrigate farms, and provide clean drinking water for third world countries.

In Halo 3 the sword was overpowered. You whined.

In Reach, Bungie included counters to the sword, and other power weapons. You continue to whine.

There's no pleasing you people. Either play the game and suck it up when you get killed, or don't play and stop whining about it.

That's the reason you spawn everyone with a powerful utility weapon so they're not completely useless and have to resort to teamshooting everytime someone on the other team gets a PW.

Walk by faith. Dude. Not by sight.

I agree with OP.

No, it wasn't

No, I didn't.

Counters to a power weapon? This is defeating the entire purpose of the power weapon. No, I don't continue to whine; I start to. I'll just play along with you and say that it's "whining".

Hmmm... No thanks. You almost persuaded me there.

Care to conjure up a real argument?

LOL, real rap is not made for you, white people.

We don't expect you to "get it." And you don't, as you've made abundantly clear through your numerous embarrassing dances, karaoke performances, ignorant haters, and pitiful imitators.

You giving your opinion on rap is like a dog watching TV. It's kind of cute because it LOOKS like he knows what's going on, but you know he really has no actual ability to comprehend it.

You want a real argument? You got wrecked because you don't know how to work around armor lock and then you made a giant whine thread about it.

Move on. Accept that you are being killed in a video game, and it's not a big deal.

16,000 + Spartan Laser kills.

There are some days when I'm playing Reach and I just completely lose faith in this community. Then I find people like the OP and my faith is instantly restored.

Good post, I agree with every word of it.

  • 06.30.2011 7:02 PM PDT

Bungie dun goofed,alot.

Whos genius idea was it to let players spawn with 2 different counters to sword.

Reach is a garbage game with a great amount of potential that Bungie just cant see.

The funny part is that I overcame the Armor Lock, and Sword Block is what stopped me from getting the kill while simultaneously killing me.

You can't even get a cop-out argument right. Also, if this were just a 'whine' thread (and therefore a blog post) it'd have been locked. Instead of being locked, the OP was uncollapsed by a moderator, meaning this thread is perfectly acceptable.

The funny part is that armor lock can't kill you, obviously you overcame it. Then you say the problem is the sword block, when the title for the thread includes armor lock. For someone who apparently got over it you sure seem to be pretty mad about it.

Oh, wow. You are just gasping for air in this argument that you know you've lost.

Yes, I overcame it. So, how come you just said that I got wrecked because I don't know how to work around it, and then you contradict that statement by saying the exact opposite? Explanation needed.
Posted by: Dauss

Don't put words into my mouth. I said that Sword Block is what killed me. Both Armor Lock and Sword Block are the problems.
Posted by: Dauss
...when the title for the thread includes armor lock.
Because it's part of the problem. Obviously. It evened the playing field where it shouldn't have been evened. Without the Armor Lock, I wouldn't have been weak enough for the melee to kill me. This all boils down the the guy getting lucky with Sword Block, but Armor Lock being part of the problem and also slowing down the game in areas it doesn't need to be slowed down in.

Sorry, I'm not trolled easily.
