The bible is the best book Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I AM A PROUD CHRISTIAN. HALO IS AWESOME BUT GOD IS MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!
Did you knew that JESUSdied for you?

While I won't claim that I know the solution to this issue. I would like to point the problem that most of us are aware of trolling.

Every site has trolling, as long as someone has acesse to an audience an anonymity (gift) trolling will exist.

However I feel that the situation is getting out if control on the site, just by scanning threads I can see that most threads are filled with obvious trolling. While some other sites have trolling more "controlled".In fact almost every post here stating an opinion is guaranteed to have trolling

I think three is a difference between stating "I believe the booting system could be improved" to "Z0mg hal0 sucz worst game ever you fa1l at h4lo bungie!!!"

Quite possible the most annoying responses are "Tl;Dr" and Umad?. This kind of post not only discourage original and well done "extensive" post, but actually discourage smart posting. Not to mention that they disrespect the person that took the time ( hours even) doing research just to "have lulz".That person would hardly post again info that could have been interesting/useful to some people. I am part if the people that do enjoy extensive well done posts. This insulting Memes need to go.

I would like to propose that more severe measures are taken to face this problem, the ninjas are doing a great job. After all this isn't their fault, it's the community's fault. But I feel something needs to be done to encourage more intelligent and constructive discussions.

"TL;DR" and "umad bro" count as spam, so the offenders will be warned/banned. The problem is the lack of people reporting spam posts.

I haven't seen a difference recently.

I think it's most likely because Halo fans congregate here, and video game fans are notoriously pretty easy to troll.

When the game is over, the king and pawn go into the same box

More moderation or less moderation? It's a catch 22.

Honestly, we should be doing a better job of policing ourselves, and not relying on the ninjas.

Deluded is a strong word someone would hardly use face to face in real life.

As I said before GIFT is the mean reason problem act this way .Not much the content or the kind of users we have.

http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19/ The fact that there aren't any consequences to their actions.

Civilisased discussions aren't a delusion but the main reason this forums exist at all. This social phenomena isn't new an certainly it isn't unbeatable.

I agree. I think the issue is that posters are far more likely to get banned for a topic than a reply, so while some people think before making a troll topic, there's basically nothing stopping them from trolling an already made topic.

For example, go to the flood and make a thread about a girl. I can guarantee you will get replies like "kick her in the balls," "stick it in her pooper," "the flood is not your journal," etc. However, nothing is done about this. I know the Ninjas cant catch everything, but i've heard of anyone being banned or warned for that behavior. And the fact that it happens every time seems to indicate that there is no danger of being banned for doing it.

Same goes for many other threads. You can make a thread in any Halo forum about the BR. If it's praising the weapon you'll be called an MLG try hard. If it's against the weapon you'll be called a Burger King. And, at least from what i've seen, it's far more comon for the thread to be locked because it became a flame war, even though there was nothing wrong with the thread itself.

Again i know the Moderators can't catch every infraction, but it's so common that it seems like they wouldn't punish the trolls even if they did. It seems like they tend to go for a temporary solution and lock the thread to end the trolling there, but the actual trolls themselves are rarely banned and it easily continues.

I mean no disrespect towards the Mods here, and i'm not saying they do a bad job, but i believe if they were to crack down on troll replies more than they do now there would, at least to some degree, be a drop in replies like "tl;dr" or "cOLD."

I agree that that replies should be more controlled as well as the topics. Mods are doing a great work but I feel this is getting out hand.

I am a mythic member like you and bungie.net wasn't my first forum. This problem being old doesn't mean it's right. This shouldn't be a bad 4chan clone.

I agree 100%. If the mods were to start giving out warnings/short term bans to people that give those one-liner response memes that usually add nothing to discussion, a lot of the trolls would learn to not. It reminds me of a person who was "Carpet Banned" in a thread, in which he said that the OP was posting in the wrong forum, but didn't say which forum was the right one. If you only say things like cOLD in a thread, you're arguably doing what the above person was banned for, except, IMO, worse. Why wouldn't they be banned the same?

Trolling is a art.

That's true. But at least this way, all of the unartistic posters who only copy the scribbles they saw off of that one other guy's post are eliminated. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

IP bans are broken.
For one, colleges/universities use the same IP, and if person got banned, then so would everyone else on campus. I know I don't want to walk into a ban because of something someone did on Bnet on the other side of campus.
The second reason is that IPs are very easy to change, which may be a larger problem. If you ban somebody's IP that can easily change it, they can easily avoid getting banned.

  • 06.28.2011 4:53 PM PDT

If you don't feed them, they will die out. That's the problem with this forum's population, they aren't anti-troll trained.

IP ban are only used when it's very necessary, with enough hard evidence and enough policy broken from the website.

(I think there are a few account that has been IP banned.)

While we are on topic for this. Trolling "Good' in a positive manner can be ok, but if a trolling gets out of hand, then that's where it can be an issue.

Bobcast is paid in MILF blind dates.

This might be a little extreme, but what about this to combat some of the trolls?

The first and most significant change is that in the near future, anyone posting or replying to a post on official Blizzard forums will be doing so using their Real ID -- that is, their real-life first and last name.

Might get rid of some who troll just because they are anonymous.
