Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Try to have a proccessor over 1Ghz, more than 512MB of RAM, and a non intergrated modern graphics card.
With those, you shouldn't have any problems.

If you want to run the game with everything set on high and a res. of 1280x1024 I'd have at least a 2ghz processor, 1 gig of ram, and a videocard better than a 9800PRO or 6800GT.

I'm assuming that on a videocard, i've never used a 9800PRO but i hear that they were decent cards. I have an x850XT which is a few generations ahead.

These are the minimum:

733 Mhz Celeron
128 MB RAM
32 MB video card with hardware T&L

There's one catch. Gearbox didn't optimize Halo for the PC very well, so the game will be almost unplayable with the minimum requirements. I'd reccomend this:

2.8 Ghz Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon XP 2800+
512 MB RAM
128 MB video card (a FX5500 at the very least)

...and a videocard better than a 9800PRO or 6800GT...

No, the ATI Radeon 9 series is a full generation behind the nVidia Geforce 6 series. The 9 series is about equal to the 5 series, with the 9 series' sequel, the "x" (for ten) being the approximate equivalent to the 6 series, though the nvidia cards of corresponding model numbers tend to be quite a bit better than their ati counterparts.

But you are correct, a 9800pro is more than sufficient for Halo PC, a 6800GT is quite frankly, overkill, they'll play counter strike: source or F.E.A.R. on top settings with no problem.

Not F.E.A.R.

If you want really cheap that works well, then get a Radeon 9600XT.
I have one, and I can run everything in Halo on max, and I can run anything else without any problems.
Also, no matter what video card you get, remember that running everything on max isn't really neccessary.
