"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

That....is actually a really good explanation, nice job.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

"A LIE is a LIE"

- Truly intelligent and deep Black ops trailer

I was playing reach the other night; I noticed it when command said the covenant can block comms.

Great explanation, bungie DID explain this, but all the people who argued otherwise will likely not accept this and will say these are scapegoats or something.

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

Doesn't a SMAC shot move at half the speed of light or something like that?

Or it could just be that the Orbital Guns are on the other side of the planet. The books describe them all lined up next to each other not spread out.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

It is the fact that we don't see them whatsoever despite the huge role that had in the battle. bungie should have put atleast one in because of this instead of shotty references and banking on "people like you" to cover their asses.

the spires were never an issue more than the fact a mile long covenant ships got right above the planet "undetected". though it is an issue on ToTS as it seems they were dropped down and if the SC was at that distance the whole time then the spires should have gotten picked up falling to reach.

Also there's only 20 of them. That is part of the problem.

What a waste....

The problem is that you never see a single one on LNOS.

I crunched numbers in a different thread, and it works out that each SMAC has to cover an area of Reach larger than Russia.
EACH SMAC.
And I highly doubt that they can actually cover the whole of that area, so there'd be little 'blind spots' all over the planet.

Also, OP, good job using listening to the game. It seems no one does that nowadays.

I'm gonna use Earth as an example for convenience. Pretend there are 20 objects in geosynchronous orbit around Earth. Earth's circumference is about 25,000 miles. Geosynchronous orbit is about 100 miles up. So we'll say they have to travel 25,500 miles to orbit around the Earth. If they were evenly spaced on one line, (which I doubt the SMACs are) you would find one object about every 1,275 miles. Now, on Reach, it's circumference is about 1.5(?) times that of Earth. Therefore, if you randomly select one point on Reach, it would be doubtful that you would find a SMAC close enough to view. ALSO, it is implied that Anchor 9 is BELOW the orbital grid. Go to Halopedia and look up the script for the end of that level.

This is what I've been saying for a while. The game explains most of the errors in the dialogue. Good job OP.

the weapon that shot the Corvette at the end of Sword Base wasn't a S-MAC, not a chance in hell. for one we can actually see the round, S-MAC rounds move so fast seeing them would be almost impossible, would just be a streak! also there would have been staggering amounts of damage ground-side and the Corvette would have probably shattered rather than just get 'knocked' a little. don't forget S-MAC platforms can 'put a round straight through a Covenant capital ship...' then still have enough kinetic energy left to nail another behind it, at best think that was a MAC strike from an orbital Frigate or Cruiser, or a standard MAC defence platform, though not a S-MAC.

Edit: also you CAN see orbiting satellites and stations right here, right now, I frequently see the International Space Station passing over-head and that is much much smaller than a S-MAC platform. would totally be able to see Cruisers and Carriers in orbit as well due to the fact they are over a kilometre long! though S-MAC platforms are in geostationary orbit, which is a much higher orbit.

Not to mention we are talking about the significance of it not being seen not the technical reasons.

That or the simple fact that 20 MAC platforms can't easily cover an entire planet. Why are people on this forum so dumb that they can't use their own imagination at to what happened as if it were so hard, yet they care so much about it.

Probably because we shouldn't be using imagination for canon related events, yea we are stupid for lacking in that area.

  • 06.29.2011 8:33 PM PDT

Or it could be this:
http://www.halopedian.com/images/f/fb/Magnetic_Accelerator_Ca nnon.png

The book Fall of Reach, specifically where the Spartans were going to get the Power armor, the captain on the Frigate with one arm, says to fire the Mac, a heavy round. which begs the question, is there a light round? Which would solve the MAC cannon problem at the end of Tip of the Spear and the end of Sword Base.

It was a platform and the platform probably did lessen the power so a giant earthquake or crater would not be a side effect of the firing. Plus the atmosphere could lessen the force also and make the projectile burn away partly because of the heat made going that fast in-atmosphere.

I don't even thing SMACs can at a planet they are protecting, that would be stupid since all innes would do is jack it and destroy the planet.

No .4tenths = .04 the speed of light

If you understand maths, English and of you would realize that 0.4 tenths = 0.4%

Your thinking it's 0.4 tenths where ten tenths = 1/10 but this is incorrect.
