Subject: How com 343i hasn't done anything by themselves?

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Legends wasn't that bad.

They could always make it longer, play from multiple perspectives, flash backs, etc.
Like Halo 3:ODST? No, thank you.

ODST was great! But how does Defiant interfere with canon?

Ironically, it doesn't.

343 captured more of the essence of Reach in 2 maps than Bungie did in an entire campaign.

Wait that doesn't make sense, how can the creators NOT capture the essence of what they've made?

Because he probably thinks that the book is non canon.

Technically the book is non-canon since Halo: Reach overrides it

....You've got to be kidding me.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

There is no canon policy since bungie no longer controls halo and 343i has yet to say if they are keeping the current one

  • 06.29.2011 11:02 PM PDT

Guys.

Seriously, guys.

Just because the video game is cannon, doesn't mean the book isn't.

The game just overrides stuff from the book if it doesn't make sense.

neither are cannon and there would be alot of changes to the story if the game is "true".

Technically... the game/book/other assorted objects aren't "cannon's" either. They may be "canon," but not "cannon."

Canon can mean official, or "a number of works officially recognized as genuine" (dictionary.com)
Whereas,
Cannon is a large, heavy piece of artillery, typically mounted on wheels, formerly used in warfare.(Google Definitions)

Savvy?

When it comes to map packs there is little to no point of a third party company to do it if their working on 2 other projects.

Headhunters is a motion comic, it's supposed to look like that.

Choice, simply put. Not to mention the former Bungie employees that work there wanted to continue the Halo franchise.

Essentially nobody that worked on Halo for Bungie works for 343. Frankie, Shishka... there are very very few.

  • 06.29.2011 11:45 PM PDT

"There is no time for peace. No respite. No forgiveness. There is only WAR!"

343i is less of a developer and more of an overseer of the halo franchise now.

yes they are creating halo 4 in house. but as we have seen, have ported things like map packs and remakes out to other companies.

when it comes OFFCIAL CANON of the halo universe. GAMES TAKE PRECEDENCE OVERALL. known fact. other things like books, comics, and movies, and set in the background.

if a date, or the death of a soldier is different ffrom a game to a book. the game is right 100% of the time. and the other story can take a hike.

Authors dont get to look word for word, at the halo bible frankie sleeps with at night. they get snippets and settings, and all the information they ask for (within limits), and then create a story around that.

this is the order to the best of my knowledge of how canon is deemed "offical"
343i>bungie>games>books, movies and other media> that kid at school who braged about his dad working for [microsoft games] in the 3rd grade

it just barely does, such as the teleporters on highlands and how reach looks in the space one.

Have you ever noticed that there are red and blue spartans killing eachother in Multiplayer?

Don't you think that is a bit of a canon braker you idiot!

Yeah but you could call it a sort of training sim.

@OP

Welcome to modern game development. Take COD: Black Ops for example. It had Treyarch, Raven, and Sledgehammer games all working together on the game. Games are made by different teams at different developers and brought together under the main developer.

No way. I'd rather 343 create more material instead of ruining what we already have, like you are suggesting.

Because it's been 10 years and they didn't care about making it fit with what we knew. They captured the essence of the planet Reach, not the "game".

I just re watched Headhunters and I have to say I prefer this over Halo: Legends, that was udder -blam!-

What do you think was wrong with Legends? I bet you're pissed about the Sangheili culture because you thought it was different.

I just hated how everything was some how linked to Japanese culture along with some things like how cortana went rampant which made no sense since she went rampant before and just stupid things they put in like the school girl act that one elite had in "The Duel"

Fine that's your opinion, but i hope you aren't one of those who think it roflpwned the Halo canon.

I considered it non-canon because of how stupid it was.

Edit: Plus the whole thing to me was "how many anime cliches can we pull out of are asses and call it Halo?"

"Where ere thou hast been, here or in yon world manifest? Canst thou tell what is, or what was, or what is to come? No thing shall last. Yet there are some things that will never change. History is written in blood, yet are battles really lost on the battlefield? Canst thou tell me where thou comest, and where thou goest, and what is, or what was, or what will be? For everything remains, AS IT NEVER WAS."

Please explain us how is the game better than the book?

It's not a matter of it being better, it's a matter of the game taking precedence over the books when a conflict occurs.

...there would be a lot of changes to the story if the game is "true".

Isn't that what they're doing with the final re-write of The Fall of Reach?

  • 06.30.2011 8:21 AM PDT

Reach's story is a contradiction in itself, so that's unimportant.

And they've probably been busy working on Halo 4. It's like Nintendo outsourcing Ocarina 3D to Geezo because they're busy working on Skyward Sword and Zelda HD.
