I know a lot of you are going to make fun of me for this but I seriously need help.

Please view this link: http://m.staples.com/mt/www.staples.com/HP-Pavilion-dv7-6163u s-17.3-Laptop/product_343565

Is halo 2 (or Halo CE) able to be played on this laptop or do I need to buy a direct x 9 graphics card?

If I do need to buy a new graphics card can someone please post a link of a good but affordable one to get.

Thank you for the help guys and girls. :)

Personally, I'd pass on that laptop. I see no mention of a video card so that most likely means it has an integrated graphics card which won't get you anywhere with gaming. Laptops in general aren't that great for gaming, but, you will be able to find something to suit Halo PC. Halo 2 on the other hand pulls tons of specifications it doesn't need and will most likely run like crap which you may or may not be able to fix.

Personally I'd go with something like this instead. It is slightly less expensive and will give you more bang for your buck. The screen is slightly smaller, but, it will have much better visuals for that size screen. Also, this should run Halo 2 Vista well.

Now, if you've already bought this laptop, you now know how to look for a laptop when you get a new one. By the way, yes, you will need a new graphics card, but, I have extremely limited knowledge on the subject when it comes to replacing/adding laptop video cards. In fact, last time I checked, you couldn't, sorry. :P

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

1. Set your sights on a better game. H2V blows more than Paris Hilton on a Friday night.

2. That laptop sucks for gaming. Syx linked a budget one, but newer games will run like crap on it.

3. Go with a desktop if you care about price. Laptops cost significantly more than equally-specced desktops.

4. You can't upgrade a laptop with a new graphics card. You're stuck with whatever you got when you bought it.

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

I'm pretty sure you cannot replace an integrated GPU in a laptop.

I have a Toshiba Satellite with an Intel core i5 processor and integrated GPU and I can run Halo PC at full settings. I haven't tried Halo 2, but I did experience some low frame rates with Call of Duty 4 even with low visual settings. However, CoD is a much more graphically demanding game I think.

Anyway, if you want a serious gaming rig, buy a desktop. But if you just need a laptop that can play the occasional game, you should be fine. You will just not be able to run at full visual settings.

Actually, CoD4 runs better than H2V generally. H2V's optimization is that bad.

I linked him to a budget laptop due to it being around the price range of the laptop he referenced. From what I found it would play Crysis 2 at highest settings running at about ~30 FPS.

Unlike some people, he might actually have some other reason for having a laptop instead of a desktop. Something having to do with having a life that doesn't involve just sitting at a desk. Something I sadly don't have until I start technical school :/

Oh having a laptop is great. Gaming between classes really takes the edge off, especially when your courses are spaced 4 hours apart on some days like mine. But if you buy a system for gaming, a desktop is best.

Thank Dr Syx for your help (I don't bother reading Dusk's post cuz he trolls too much and only make fun of people) I'm having second thoughts on halo 2 vista cuz I don't want, or have the ability to get a desktop since I will be in Spain for my first semester. I think I'll just play team fortess 2 for free and hope my graphics card is good enough for that.

Is calling someone a troll trolling also? I think it might very well be.
