Subject: Exeception to forum rules for sigs?

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

In the forums political and religious talk is off limits, that is all well and good. My question is if we can post poltical and or religous statments in our sigs?

I much hope to put a quote i read today in my sig, but it has to do with a poltical and moral issue, but i do not wish to get banned for it.

So can someone tell me if its allowed or not allowed?

Is it ok has long has no one complains about it?

Or should i just can the idea.

What say you good people?

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

Well seeing as how i've seen countless numbers of signatures with religious quotes and references, i guess it's fine. I'd personally advise to try your hardest to avoid any flaming due to it though.

Ask one of the moderators, they'll know the answer to that. I also agree with gp on that, I've seen a lot of members with sig's like that. If it's not offensive, then go for it other wise I wouldn't recomend it.

Well I will see what some more people say before I take any action.

I dont want to step on any toes.

I have, actually, seen people get blacklisted for having political content in their sigs before. I believe they're warned first, and then if they don't change it, they get blacklisted.

This seems like something you definitely want to ask a mod about before shooting into the wind.

Yor sig should in no way offend anyone though. Its your belief that is not directed at anyone.

Well, i guess it is probably alright. Just make sure it is not directly against another political or religious party, i know thats hard, but if it's not degrading another party, im guessing its fine. The safest way to go is not to put it in until you have firm conformation that it is fine. Or you could pass the quote through a moderator and he can tell you whether or not it is appropriate.

Recon told me via PM that as long has it wasnt over the top then it was ok.

So i sent him the quote cuz i wasnt sure. I have found that many people can not handle what i have to say with any understanding, so better to be safe then sorry.

If you have inappropriate stuff in your sig then you'll be blacklisted until you change your sig.

I know that Shishka gets mad about that type of thing. I would just PM it to one of the moderators and ask. Perhaps mailing it to their Gmail account would be a good idea?

here, just do this: googletalk with whichever mod is on at the time (there's usually one on) and post your quote, asking whether they think its ok to have. That way, there's no issue.

Unless, of course, some other mod bans you for it...then it becomes an internal matter.

Well have some thought i have to decided to with hold my quote from the sig. I think it would have been acceptable according to the rules, but I have a feeling some people may not agree with it. So I will search for a less conflicting qoute that still expresses the same idea. Thanks to all for the advice and to Recon for his.

I'm going to step in on this one.

Political and religious commentary is not allowed on the forums. As such, political or religous signatures are not allowed. Yes, you can get blacklisted for them.

It's worth noting that linking to a relgious or politically oriented 7th column group in your forum signature is acceptable, provided you do so in a way that doesn't require commentary (example: "Come to my group Ethos HQ because the Zohar is the one true power that governs this universe" is NOT acceptable, "Join my group, Ethos HQ" is).

Think about it this way: If you posted your signature as a thread in the Flood, would it most likely get locked or get you blacklisted? If so, reconsider your forum sig.

lol, I would think that if you were going to quote the Flood...it should not be in your sig.

Once again I am left amazed by Shishkas cold, but honest answer to another innocent question.

If you think I was cold before...

You're going to need to remove the signature.

Although this might come out as offensive (which it isn't considering how Shishka is the last one I want to offend =P), if it had said the quote and then replaced "G.W.Bush" with some unknown name like "Alfred Page IV", would it make a difference?

Nope. It doesn't matter who said it. It's enough to start someone off on political commentary in reply to his signature. Hence the preventative maintanance.

Well then.
This is not political but, George W. did say this (and there is video to support it at www.slate.com) "You took an oath to defend our flag and our freedom, and you kept that oath underseas and under fire."—Addressing war veterans, Washington, D.C., Jan. 10, 2006
