Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Has MS even confirmed that there will be 7 editions?

No, it was a rumour conjoured up by ArseTechnica

you can use any version of vista. The different versions wont perform differently. The only thing that determines performance is your computer itself. Maybe it has different software that I'm not aware of, but as far as it goes, your computer is the limiting factor.

I didn't think that there was any truth behind it.
I doubt that MS will make more than 3 versions if it follows XP.
It's supposed to have Media Center as a built in feature of the OS, so that really makes it 2 versions at the most: Home and Pro.

Any version of Vista can be used to play Halo 2 PC...

So, is there any news about the release date for said Windows Vista? Or how much it's gonna cost? (or how much it's gonna cost at the Microsoft Store :-) I love living in Seattle!)

Wait...SEVEN versions of windows? Bunk, I say. The most versions they'll make are 3, although as far as I've heard, there are only two, home and pro. Both versions are rumored to integrate Media Center capabilities, which basically means no need for a third Media version of Windows.

And rest assured, they won't make Halo exclusive to a particular version of the same OS. We know Visita's coming out sometime this year. But nobody knows exactly when, yet. I expect the initial cost to be around 200 or so, just for the OS.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's much of a rumor concerning the amount of Vista OS's. However, Halo should play on any version of Vista. Microsoft is already narrowing down the options by only allowing Halo 2 to run on Vista. It would be a foolish marketing scheme to limit that even more (to a specific type of Vista) as their first scheme is already a great risk. Those of you who want to get "Ultimate," go ahead. I'm buying the cheapest version of Vista, if I even get it at all.

I don't trust anyone other than microsoft about this. If they do have a media center integrated, then there atleast has to be a european version without.

I still don't trust any of it unless it comes from MS.

Don't take it from anybody but Microsoft. Even when those news sources claimed that "oh, MS had it, they just took it down when they realized they leaked it." Don't believe them.

And even if they may have been telling the truth, for example, perhaps Microsoft decided NOT to build that many versions and simply took it down from their website.

Besides, I notice that both the articles link to a bigger news source like Reuters and Australian News (as opposed to Microsoft itself), but neither Reuters nor AU is able to cite an original source. Don't just read the articles, analyze them.

I seriously doubt any more than 3 versions, though. Small businesses and large businesses each having their own OS? AND a home, pro and ultimate? I mean, think of it logically. (Yes, the same logic that had me so convinced that h2 would come to PC eventually. That logic.) Is a small business so radically different from a large business that they each need their own individual OS? A single well-designed Pro version is all that's needed. And if they constructed both a "small business"/"large business" Windows, why would anyone want to buy the "Pro" version of windows when they would just get the "small/large busniess" version instead?

My point is basically, that Microsoft wouldn't do such a thing, because it would be literally stretching themselves too thin.

I'm just bummed that it won't be on XP. I mean, I'm sure XP would be able to run it, but Microsoft is going through a greedy streak.

Hey, any ideas on the system requirements for Halo2PC? Do you think a GeForce FX 5200 would be able to handle it at all?

If your computer's better than an Xbox's specs, it should be fine.

Bollocks, the xbox is streamlined totally for gaming and pushing every last bit of juice out of your screen, somehow i doubt a pc with a 733mhz cpu and a 32mb graphics card could handle H2PC.

no. I would highly recommend a DirectX 9 card, basically anything above a 6600GT or X800XT

Like I said, BETTER. If they got Halo2 running on an Xbox, it sure as hell will run on something better. What you gave out were specs that matched Xbox's down to the hertz. Something better than that should be able to handle H2PC. Albeit, it won't be able to take advantage of any of the touted graphical improvements, but it should run.

by DX9 i meant shader model 3 support, the FX series barely support shader model 2.0 and are usually considered to be DX8 cards, and have to run in DX8 in all valve games due to their pitiful performance in DX9.

You may be right, Microsoft are rumoured to be bringing out a "Third world" vista for the growing market in africa, but i doubt it will run any games, i even doubt it will be available in the US or UK.

I can run Halo 1 on 800MHz and a GeForce 2 (just barely), so I'm used to crappy graphics. So do you think that I could run Halo 2 with an AMD AthlonXP 3100+ and a 128MB FX 5200? This is assuming I'm running the game at 640x480 with all graphics settings set to "low" or "off?" From what I've seen on Halo2 xbox, I don't think that this would be unreasonable.
