smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

I'm actually disappointed. I wanted an epic new game, but now I'm stuck with CoD and 343i Halos. :/

Bungie does realize when they said "Hey, hold your horses. Crimson does not come out until this Summer!" that it is Summer right? I mean, now is Summer. This second.

So...?

They specifically said that Aerospace was not a game. And their new IP won't be announced until quite a while down the road. In the meantime, the games they're helping to back with these third parties should hold our thirst for a little while. Stop complaining and enjoy the fact that they actually care about the gaming community as a whole and are giving other devs support and backing that they normally don't always have. It's a good thing; trust me, I'm a doctor.

I am a penguin. Every day I boogie on down to the water, and eat fish. Once, while fishing in the deepest depths, I saw great Cthulhu... And he said to me "Shine, to thine own self be true. They can't tell you what to do once you've gone guru." Also, I should tell you, "slide".

So... it's also Summer for another 2 months.

DDOS'd Amazon's servers F5ing for Swag Bags...yeah I was there. :)

7-7-11 was another awesome Bungie Day! Thanks Bungie for making halo so amazing over the last 10 years. Can't wait to see what your Destiny will be next. ;)

I'm really starting to like the sound of this the more I realize it's not what I was expecting. This will be very exciting to see unfold.

I'm almost positive it won't be, but I hope it's not iPhone exclusive. I don't buy Apple products.

They went with the 3 step business plan...well played Bungie. (As others have noticed as well)

Step 1: Create a system to help independent developers
Step 2: ...
Step 3: Profit

This account is now retired due to WLID changing. Webteam needs to fix that, seriously >.>

That's neat and all, but I have no interest in an ipad or an expensive phone when a cheap one is fine for phone calls. I play video games on videogame consoles so try to fire a few rockets at the 3DS eshop, kthxbai.

This isn't bad news, but I'm not excited.
This should excite you.

Imagine, for just a moment, if all those buggy, ugly and slow flash and mobile games that we have all wasted hundreds, if not thousands, of hours on, were made to the standard of a flagship console title, were launched with global stats and social networking packages, and coupled into these very forums.

If that doesn't excite you the simple fact is you don't like games.

Bungie Aerospace is actually brilliant, not only from the small developer's viewpoint, but from where Bungie stands. Bungie open up a doorway to new games and support eager developers, but can rake in the cash flow. This system, however, also benefits gamers because it's essentially a win-win situation: as Bungie get more money (which will help support Bungie Aerospace), small developers can create better games through the help of Bungie Aerospace, which results in [logically] more money for both them and Bungie, and thus better games [hopefully].

But the down side to this is that Bungie could possibly end up like Activision, a group which has honestly made gaming for the worse.

Does anyone else think that phase 2 may be "Bungie Publishing services for small and medium developers for platforms and PC?"

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

It's a revolutionary idea, but to be honest it couldn't be further from what I expected after years of waiting. I don't understand why they had to keep us in suspense for this and speculate on it for years.

Other than the slightly douchey tone in the reply, I feel this basically sums up the feeling most people should feel IMO. This is quite an exciting venture for Bungie and I'm really looking forward to what the future brings.

Bungie Aerospace is actually brilliant...
I wouldn't expect bungie to make very much money at all out of this, in cash terms at least. As huuge as the mobile/social gaming market is, you can count on one hand the number of games that have actually been successful, and most of those have to give away their work for free on the hope of making money off advertising. Zynga turn over about $1m a day, but no one else comes close, with even Rovio turning over a tiny fraction of that.

There is money in mobile gaming, there's just not very much, and it's even smaller when you're not the one taking the main cut. The main benefits for bungie are going to be exposure, a la valve and steam, and talent recruitment.

Disappointing?! This is incredible news. Way to go Bungie. Support those who may not be able to launch their own ideas without help. I'm very impressed.

Having been through the cycle of being independent, then owned, and independent again, I'm assuming Bungie is going to assume a mentorship role rather rather than be a cruel taskmaster.

I think this is a great idea as there is so much money in mobile and social right now. Just look at Zynga's valuation.

Bungie are still going to take in considerable amounts of money, and nevertheless, as you said, they'll get exposure. Also they can expand furthermore, which all, ultimately leads to more money.

However, I personally think that this is a great idea because people have access to an organized structure that will help them easily create games. In the past it used to be about coming up with a good idea and bringing the idea to life by creating a solid platform. By the looks of it, Aerospace will remove the latter, allowing for the production of games to be easier. Also a universal system is significantly better, and I don't think I need to explain that.

Honestly, Bungie Aerospace was certainly a let down for me. Since it was announced I was under the impression it was going to be some big, awesome project or game or something. Instead, it is actually just a new mobile gaming platform or something like that for phones that I can't afford. I'm sure if you do have those phones that this was a little more exciting for you though. :p

The studio's first mobile gaming title, "Crimson," is set to launch this summer on iOS and Android devices.

This is very exciting news for those trying to break into the games industry! Aerospace sounds like it has the capacity to be a very solid platform backed by one of the largest independent studios. Great work Bungie!

In my opinion, a mentorship role is still supporting them. Even something as small as helping them file for trademarks (as was suggested earlier in this thread) or a platform to launch their game on (i.e launching in from B.net) is still much more support than if the independent developer tried to do this solo. Also, I'm kind of confused how you got "cruel taskmaster" from my post?
