"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

While I am disappointed it's not their new IP, I am excited to see Bungie helping the little guys. With a recognizable brand and a solid community, it's the perfect place to introduce smaller games from independents.

Reminds me of Bungie way back when.

At first I was like "WHY AIN'T DIS TEH NEW GAEM?"

Then I realized this will get us a lot more fun games, just smaller.

That pretty much sums up my feelings about this as well.

What does Bungie Aerospace mean for us, the community?

It means, bungie will be helping amateur game developers to make their dreams come true.
In turn, allowing the community, to one day play these games, which we may never have been able to do, without the support of Bungie.
Nuff said.

*Selected amateurs. Not every bright person will get a chance to be supported by Bungie.

Amazing indeed.

Yeah right. This is just boring crap that Bungie set up. Mobile games are useless.

I agree, alot of people dont want/have a smartphone, thus will no doubt careless about this Aerospace organization. I for one dont care either because only a few people will get a chance and Bungie's picking 'em. Thus I see a new CoD remake in the future on the smartphones. Great.

Loose talk is noose talk.

It's one small step for Bungie. It's one giant leap to world domination.

I was really hoping for Bungie Aerospace to be Bungie's answer to Valve's Steam. That would be... totally wizard, bro.

I'm the same way. Although it is saddening for most of us average joes that come to the site, it is a huge success for the independent companies. Although the question still remains, now that we know Aerospace isn't the new IP, what is the future of this site and could we be seeing a drastic change in scenery on this site soon?

"I agree OP. I, too, love feeling superior to others and enjoy the sensation of belonging to an imaginary elitist group on the internet."

I'll say what I said in the News Forum:

This is a brilliant move on Bungie's part. Bravo, you guys. I knew you were my favorite developers for a reason.

Mobile is the new platform of games. Why buy a hunk of plastic to play games for $60 a pop, when I can have one device that can connect to the internet, make phone calls, take pictures, and contain my entire game library? This doesn't mean a bunch of shovelwear games. No, it means we get AAA titles on the cheap. The truth is, this is better for the consumer.

Bungie Cloud is the next step!

Also, here's a video that sums up my argument.

The only downside to this whole announcement is that I don't have an iPhone, or anything close :/ I'll get one eventually anyway, so this is really great for a new user, for sure.
The upside to this whole announcement is that I recently purchased an iPhone. Bungie Aerospace isn't what I was expecting or at least hoping it to be, but it's still cool.

I'm not too big on mobile/social gaming, I have an iPhone, so bring them on.

I hope that in the future this means that they support indie devs that develop more along the lines of XBLA/PSN/Steam, then I would be really excited.

FTFY.
Nope, sorry. Rejecting a game just based on its platform marks you as the worst kind of stupid. It's an ad hominem for the 21st century.

I can say absolutely and unequivocally that, barring multiplayer experiences (where the fun is a consequence of your company, not the game) the cleverest and best game design in the world at the moment comes from independent, non-professional game designers. People like Notch and Toady One. Imagine what they could accomplish if they had the support of a AAA game studio, all the art and sound and engineering power that brings?

The problem at the moment is that to get that support you have to sell your soul to the devil, you've got to sign over massive chunks, if not all, of your intellectual property, and probably your company and long-term employment too (cf. infinity ward); in attempting to make your game better, you have to give up the creative freedom that made your game what it was to begin with. In this case, the services being offered are [hopefully] for the benefit of the independent developer, with them retaining creative freedom and executive production rights. That changes everything, entirely for the better.

Genuinely, if this doesn't excite you, you either don't understand the consequences or you don't enjoy games.

Zynga's an extreme exception amongst a field of very predictable rule-following paradigm-defining companies. It's also impossible to replicate their success for two key reasons. This is why Google+ will die a death, just like Wave before it.

First, they already have social dominance. Such games rely on friends playing the game together, and people play farmville for the same reason they use facebook: everyone else uses it already. It's nigh on impossible to displace or replicate that kind of total (250m users per month) dominance.

Second, and partially corollary, people already have hilarious quantities of time invested in the dominant game. They're reluctant to start afresh in a new game, to re-build their social networks and in-game assets. You can see this in MMOs. If an MMO is released with a standard of content below the market leader (typically WoW, which has near a decade of entrenchment), it won't stand a chance, and is why MMOs have pretty universally failed since WoW's release.

It's also why activision are trying to make CoD into a multi-game persistent brand, with your identity and stats carried from game to game. It's easy to not buy the next CoD when it's just another CoD, but when that just another CoD comes with all the benefits of your previous investments intact, it becomes a little bit harder to ditch.

Greatest of all time

I mean, did they have to beat around the bush? They could have easily just said "Come take advantage of the community we built to promote your new mobile game in exchange for part of your profits."

Bungie is all about profit now, as Halo: Reach clearly demonstrated. I kind of expected something like this from them. This doesn't help gaming, it is just another way to make some cash in the event that their next game bombs.

Jeez, this is amazing. Following the trend of how amazing Indie games have been/are right now... With this, they can only get better. Depending on how this works out, I might just get that Android I've been looking at, as well.

It clearly demonstrated that? What I saw was a fun game and I would be playing had my Live not expired. But seriously, bashing them for helping independent devs, and OMG make money too those greedy bastards, is childish at best. Perhaps if folks wouldn't overhype things so much, this disappointment folks seem to acquire wouldn't happen.

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

The thing that amused me in the press releases and news articles was talk of Bungie's 'amazing' (or whatever extremely positive adjective) community. Oh sure, we're 'rabid', like one site said, but we're also perhaps the least receptive-towards-mobile-and-casual-gaming gaming community on the Internet, considering the majority of us were raised on hardcore console FPSs. Don't get me wrong, this is a great move by Bungie, but when you look at a lot of the fan reaction, I get the impression that a significant number of fans will not be willing to participate in the venture.

Still, that leaves the more intelligent, mature, open-minded fans, and me, to help out.
