Subject: Bungie Aerospace: What was Bungie thinking?

Without me, it's just "Aweso".

Some people are wondering, "What is the point of Bungie Aerospace? Why is Bungie even putting in effort towards mobile gaming when everyone knows Console gaming is where the true fans, as well as the money lies?", and to those people, I hope this thread can help explain why Bungie Aerospace is a very good idea.

Let's look at some statistics, shall we?

Over 100 million iphones have been sold worldwide, as well as 15 million iPads, and 60 million iPod touches, not to mention the millions of Droid phones sold as well. A very conservative estimate would be a total of 225 million mobile devices which would support these independent games.

Compare this to about 50 million Xboxes, and about the same number for PS3s for a total of around 100 million

You must also look at the revenue for mobile apps/games compared to the decline in prominence of bigger console games. It is projected that by 2015, Apple's app store alone will generate around $36 Billion annually..

Meanwhile, Microsoft's entertainment and devices division, which covers revenue from the Xbox 360, as well as other related goods, is reporting quarterly revenues of $3.6 billion, so at best, we can assume that annual revenue will be somewhere from $10-20 billion.

It is also important to note the cost of producing each form of game, with an "Advanced" Iphone app, which I would assume Bungie Aerospace would be most likely to produce, costing an average of $50-100,000. Meanwhile, the budgets for Next-gen games on consoles are noticeably higher.

Looking at these statistics, are there still any who doubt Bungie's decision to put resources towards helping develop mobile games/apps?
