Subject: Can some explain the story behind the recent Swag Bag sale?

I already secured one in the first wave, so I wasn't paying any attention to this sale. Can anyone explain what happened?

In short: We got screwed. Hard. By Bungie. The Swag bag incident was very poorly handled.

Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle!

Well, Everyone F5'd Bungie's Amazon for the Swag Bag, it went down, so they brought up a new one with the name of "Gorilla"...Something or other.

No one trusted it, and they were wiped clean of Swag Bags.

I am sad that I didn't get one, but whatever.

Bungie trolled us

/thread

  • 06.30.2011 1:18 PM PDT

if someone types this before me...

We were told to f5 attack the store. Jokingly or not, we did anyways. Amazon had major problems. After two hours another item popped up. No one told any of the people who sat at the same page for two hours if it was real or not, it was. People ordered more then one. We are mad.

and now we are here.

I love Halo, I have played it since the beginning, even though I may not have had Xbox Live back then. Marathon is also a pretty good game. I have been here on Bungie.net longer but got a new account and I am looking forward to Bungie's next game. My old account got hacked.

Thank You Bungie! For the best games and Recon Armor. Also thanks for the early access to the Halo: Reach Beta!

The "Bag of Swag"s were sold under another company's name at first.

5 out of 6 pediatricians can't tell the difference between a resident vagabond and a local hobo.

1. Bungie announces swags bags will come up at about 10 PT
2. 10 PT comes and goes... no bags online
3. Bungie announces Amazon servers got fried from all the users F5'ing. Says that Amazon is working on it.
4. An hour or so later, an account comes up under the name "Gorrilla Screens" that claims is selling the bags. Since it had differences in both name, description, and seller, most disregarded it as a scam/troll.
5. Turns out it was legit. People ended up buying it out from the secondary account very quickly, leaving all the level-headed, scam-weary users with nothing more than several wasted hours for nothing.
6. Bungie has still yet to comment on any of this.

The End.

I <3 drop shields

An amazon seller called something like Gorilla Prints appeared to be selling swag bags. A whole bunch of people weren't sure if it was a scam until Halcyon confirmed it in a thread. Shortly, thereafter they all sold out and the seller changed from Gorilla Prints to Bungie. Now there are a bunch of angry people complaining about it.

Fans got desperate and F5'd every second at 10:00 AM PT,we trashed the amazon and Bungie store page. Bungie told us to stop F5, we didn't listen. Bungie put the Bags on a different page, still being sold through Bungie Store. People didn't want take the risk (even though it even said it was coming from Bungie Store) The people who risked it and bought the bags are happy. Those who didn't missed their shot at swag. The F5 are :( and >:( at Bungie.

Bungie told us bags would be soled at 10:00 AM. By 11:00 AM Bungie told us Amazon was having some trouble and everything was postponed (note that no bags had been sold). Some time afterward a seller by the name of Gorilla Prints starts selling Swag Bags. They're gone in a flash. Then people start doubting the legitimacy of this new seller and cancel. Shortly afterward a contractor for Bungie (meaning no septegon, no yellow text) says it's legitimate in a thread now almost 2,000 posts long.

Essentially people are angered because Bungie switched sellers without any notification and expected us to not only find them, but trust that the seller was legitimate and buy anyway.

Bungie updated twitter around 10AM PDT to say that Amazon was having a hard time dealing with everyone reloading the webpage constantly. After hours of not knowing what would happen, someone found a link to a similar product entitled "Bag of Swags" by Gorilla Screen Printing. After most of the stock had been sold out, a Bungie contractor, Halcylon confirmed that the item was legitimate. Reportedly, those who ordered more than one had their extra orders cancelled, but there isn't much evidence to prove otherwise. Cue massive amounts of [rightful?] rage from the community.

The bags were originally released a week ago, and you guys were lucky Bungie gave everyone a "second chance."

Now I understand some users cannot be on the minuet something goes on sale. However, this is no different then buying playoff tickets or tickets to a huge concert. If you don't wanna spend the time getting on when they are released, you don't get one or have to pay much more for one (Ebay).

Sorry to all, but they said these bags would be limited months ago.

That's not the issue, Noshotskill. Using your analogy, what they did is like the NFL announcing playoff tickets are available at X time, only they don't go onsale at X time. Instead, without any notification, they decide to send a man wearing a long brimmed hat and large trench coat into the crowd of fans, who then tries to sell the tickets which are hidden behind his coat. He will only give you the ticket if you hand him $500 first. Real classy Bungie.

Bungie screwed us all over and we have the right to be mad. i sat in front of my computer for 4 hours waiting to get mine and other people waited even longer just to find out that they were being sold without even knowing

I can see the 2nd link in the Bungie Store. Why do you think it's so shady?

Smart choice would've been to take the risk on the shady seller and then if it turned out to be a scam, chances are Amazon could/would step in and fix it.

Granted, if you didn't see the 2nd link in the first place...
