I like Halo games, nuff said.

So, today I was messing around on one of my maps when I decided for some reason to look at the weapons. So I spawned a sniper rifle (to look at the weapons in greater detail) and started to look at the details on the weapons. I started off on the AR37 Assault Rifle (right?), and found something very peculiar. I discovered that upon close inspection, the Assault Rifle is not an AR37 as everyone (who looks at halopedian or kept up to date on these things) knows but an MA5C! (this is the picture in question)

The MA5C is, of course, the weapon used by Master Chief and the marines in Halo 3. Now, the fact that this is indeed an MA5C and not an MA37 does not make sense because in Halo 1 and before, the MA5B was used by the UNSC and the MA5C was not even in service yet.

This could all probably be regarded as an oversight on bungie's part, but this thing is that this small block of text was in high definition so that the words are clearly readable. This must meant that someone had to have put some thought into it, right? So therefore I am not entirely sure as to what to make of this but I thought I should get it out there for discussion.

No one? Anyone else at least noticed this or have any ideas about it?

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

The MA37 Individual Combat Weapon System, (abbreviated MA37 ICWS or MA37 assault rifle), formally known as the Individual Combat Weapon System, Caliber 7.62 mm, MA37 and known as the MA5 by the Naval services.

They are the same weapon but they are called differently between military branches.

Indeed. The MA37 is a variant of the MA5 custom designed for Army needs and specifications. The variant we see in Reach is the MA37 Mk.IV, the newest generation built alongside the '5C used by the Navy and Marine Corps.

That is exactlry what I say when I play Call of Duty.

I believe the MA37 is a cut down variant of the MA5C, in use for the Army. This makes sense with its rugged appearance for planetary battles instead of space engagements.

My jokes, so I don't lose them (ignore this):
ZedFish's Opinion on Sgt. Foley.
ZedFish's Forerunner Rickroll.

The Reach project page you linked to says:"MA37:

The MA37 (more formally Individual Combat Weapon System, Caliber 7.62 mm, MA37) is an air-cooled, gas-operated rifle firing 7.62x51mm ammunition. It is magazine-fed and is capable of fully automatic fire. The MA37 (MA5 for Marines and Navy) first entered service with the UNSC in 2437, it has remained the primary service rifle of all branches of the UNSC ever since."
Really, it's just the name that's changed. The only reason that it looks different in Reach compared to Halo 3 or CE is that Reach is a newer game, and has been graphically improved.

Nearly every weapon in Halo has been in service since the beginning of the war. It takes longer to arm forces with the newer weapons because they are further away.

Anyway, the MA37 is the Army varient of the MA5C. They're pretty much the same except the MA37 looks like -blam!- compared to the MA5C.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

It does have a different casing because it's an Army model but graphical updates should also be taken into consideration.

i dont care, i'm just tired of these weak assault rifles that we've been forced to use that doesn't have 60 -blam!-ing bullets! unlike the original AR in halo CE.

You didn't read the description on the link YOU posted.

Notice where it says MA5 for Marines and Navy. The Master Chief was in the Navy.

Hey hey hey don't dis the ar's man ! I've been on rampages with those things cause people leave plenty of ammo around for picking up power weapons , when all it takes is some three round burst from my assault rifle baby !

Do you know how heavy and cumbersome that magazine would be? In this new "real life" thing, almost EVERY 5.56x45mm assault rifle in the world uses 30 round box magazines (the exception being some variants of the FAMAS and the AUG HBAR). In the U.S., a typical soldier carries 210 rounds of ammunition. Got it? The larger 7.62x51mm NATO round is used in battle rifles such as the FN FAL, M14, G3, and FN SCAR-H. They feed from 20 round box magazines. The M14's magazine is 6.25 inches tall. Triple that, and you have an 18.75 inch tall magazine.

Sorry. Inaccuracies like that almost irritate me. The MA37, as it has been said before, is the army version of the MA5-. Judging by the picture, I think that earlier in the development, bungie was going to have the MA5C, but there would be some canonical inconsistencies there. Either: use the MA5B and get complaints about how it's not like the Halo 1 AR, or use the MA5C and get complaints on how it didn't exist yet. So, they took the third option: make a new assault that cannot have any canonical inconsistencies because it had never existed yet. Basically, it's an oversight.
