Subject: All you fanboys who argue about the games versus the books

If you guys ever look at the books they are based off of Halo but not 100% true because they were written by authors who got permission to write the books. It says in Halo:CE that "you are the last of your kind" a.k.a. you are the last living spartan, but in one of the books there is a sniper chick who is still alive in a cryotube because she was deeply injured and MC put her there. Where does it say that in the Halo games there was another spartan the whole time??? Just enjoy the games and books and imagine your own fantasy. Not trying to flame you guys but just do what you want to imagine, like that Noble 6 survived or MC is the Marathon man' ancestor. I don't know

Sorry to say this but book is canon. Means that John is not last kind of spartan, he's last combat-ready spartan. Also there's tons of spartans left alive too.

Spartan-IIs and IIIs left alive after Halo 3:

SPARTAN-IIs: Jai-006, Adriana-111 and Mike, Kelly-087, Frederic-104, Linda-058, Douglas-042, Jerome-092, and Alice-130

SPARTAN-IIIs: Lucy-B091, Tom-B292, Ash-G099, Mark-G???, Olivia-G???, probably majority of Gamma Company, Team Katana)

No they don't, they only get bits and pieces of the Halo Story Bible to help them write their book, they never get the whole thing, that would give away far too many secrets to far too many people. Even when the Halo Story Bible was at Bungie, there were only 3 or 4 people who could access it, and that would be Frank O'Conner (now head of 343i), Marty O'Donnel (not entirely sure about that one), and Joseph Staten are the only ones I remember, I think there was a fourth.

@OP
The games and books are both canon, but if there is a conflict between the two then the games always take priority over whatever the book said. The books derive their "power" and "authority" from the games (what started this whole great franchise in the first place) and can be superseded by them at any time, but unless such an event occurs they hold just as much weight as the games when it comes to canon.

We fight for that which is lost in the hope that what is lost can be found.

The books are canon and Halo Reach is a black sheep. My entire argument is that all the books fit with the games until Reach.

Erics stated in an interview years ago that he had to give the bible back directly after he was done with the book. Too many people?

Either way it's a whole lot o' whining over something pretty insignificant. Reminds me of a bunch of Star Trek nerds. "You broke canon, my butt hurts!!!!!"

  • 07.01.2011 5:29 AM PDT

Have you even read the books?

The reason why in Halo CE we were told "you are the last of your kind" was because it was believed the rest of the spartans had died with the Fall Of Reach, it later emerged that a small number had survived.

Just because a information is omitted in the game doesn't mean the books are obsolete.

As for the authors, they would have had the Halo Bible which would provide the outline for any story to be wrapped around. Bungie would have screened all information written in the novels. The authors just didn't make stuff up for the hell of it & publish it without bungie's consent

I'm sure having the whole HSB at the time when TFoR was written wouldn't really be a problem as there wouldn't be much information about the rest of the Halo verse in there that early in Halo's life, writers don't get the whole thing now though, they only get small sections dealing with what they want to write about. I meant giving the whole Halo Story Bible out for all the writers working on their books would be far too many people possibly seeing more than they should, that's what I meant.

This is ignorance. You just said, "whatever the games say goes". So, if they were to put a fictional Spartan III team in one of their games, a spartan III team that's not actually in the Halo Bible at all, & have their story take place on Reach, even though there are no Spartan IIIs on Reach, it would be right?

(Rhetorical)

It was in an issue of Wired magazine back when Halo 3 was in production. Not sure whether it would online or not.
