I just saw a green monkey nut shot a small tan lizard(?) in a gunny sack.

As a parent, it really bothers me to see some people basically saying 'Well, screw the kids, I wanted my bag of swag.'

Bungie is going through all of this effort, just to take the $20,000-$25,000 they're making off of this, to try and brighten the days of some sick children, some of whom might not live past their 10th birthday. Please, before you get so flippant about what this was all really for, sit and think about whether you'd like some asspained little kid on the Internet saying this stuff about your kid, or hell, even about YOU, if you were in that situation. I'd be willing to bet the answer would be 'Gee, I guess not, that's really selfish.'

Exactly my thoughts its stupid that a forum that before the swag went live was pretty nice and wishing each other good luck and all of a sudden it went into a -blam!-ing frenzy ever seen them tv shows where the people are waiting out side there local cloth shop for the new launch and its like the doors open and everyone literally trampled over each other. Seems stupid eh?? all the for cloths its just a bit of fabric why become vultures? well thats what exactly happened last night and now the loyal fans and community members have to pay by listening to you people -blam!- about the swag bags get a grip of your self theres more important things in life.

I was the first Spartan. And I will be the last. Mythic on 9/1/2012 never forget
PAX 08, Third Team against Luke and Shishka, AR dual to
the Death, won by one point... Assembly hasn't changed.

urk: "This is a bad idea."
DeeJ: "Hold still..."

I was a little disappointed as others were.
But instead of posting and raging, I thought....and I thought....and I thought.

And after much more brain work that would normally be used for such a situation, I realized something.

The best time with Bungie's Halo series, has been the journey.
Its not what I get here at the end, but the memories I hold from before.
If I REALLY want something cool, I'll bid on some of their props.

And beyond that, I may pay them a visit (with food stuffs in hand of course). Not to try and get anything, just to enjoy the experience.

Thats what the community it forgetting.
Its the journey, not the destination.

You're implying they did okay, or good, or decent. You're wrong, the way they handled this situation was terrible and in no way positive.

some of Urk's comments from yesterday:

1) "Truth be told, we don't know if they're gone or not. The Amazon store front is experiencing technical issues. As soon as we hear back from them, we'll have a better picture of what in the world is going on and where we're at in terms of numbers.

Sorry for all the confusion. We're trying to keep everybody updated at the same time we're fighting the fires."

2) "I'll keep everybody in the loop as best I can. Thanks for all the patience. We knew people would dig the Swag Bags and wanted to make them a great value, but we really didn't anticipate this kind of overwhelming response. They're limited because many of them are a mix of new items, historical swag, and signed stuff. We're boxing them all right here in the studio (so some will probably include Bungie dandruff, too!)."

3) "We've been trying to shut [the ability to add the swag bag to cart] down for a while now. :\"

See? How is ANY of this Bungie's fault? Apparently they couldn't even make an announcement because Amazon wasn't keeping THEM up to date. To my knowledge, nobody even knows if it was Bungie who added the second swag page. That could have been Amazon (the store is totally separate from Bnet).

I understand why people were frustrated; it's understandable. But taking it out on Bungie was uncalled for.

Anyway, thanks to the people who kept their cool, and thank you Bungie.

They could make a billion announcements but if near nobody sees them, they're worthless.

At the end of the day Bungie sold the swag to the community like they intended, it just happened to go to the more level headed calmer people rather than the other folk who were so caught up in the commotion that they had created they failed to understand what was happening - not Bungie's fault.

At the end of the day Bungie left the community at awe due to their lack of support and miss-communication with their customers.

Bungie didn't fix anything, because if they did you wouldn't see the massive spam on the forums, this spam thread, or any fanboy spam comments made by people such as yourself. (don't argue your not a fanboy, blaming this mishap 100% on the community is not logical whatsoever)

A simple announcement on the front page or even a blog post is a responsibility that doesn't relate to holding a paying customers hand.

My rebuttal

- Dragon Ball/Z/GT and it's merchandise are awesome.
- All "abriged" parodies are hilarious.
- Humanity, as a whole, is stupid.
- I have asperger's syndrome
- This is the best used 20 seconds of your life
- Official helper to the Halo: Reach - The Armor You'll Be Wearing This Fall! Thread

Agreed.

While I was very upset with how the event unfolded, I still was not angry at Bungie.

The fact of the matter is, even if Bungie HAD been in control of the situation, they still have done more for us than nearly any other game dev will ever do.

People that came on the forum saying "forget the kids!" just disgust me. They care more about some stupid action figure they are probably going to get than making children happy. The community has made this Bungie Day one of the worst so far. There is still hope that the community will improve and try to improve Bungie Day in the process. I applaud the members of the community that did not act as childish and disgraceful. May you people and Bungie have the best Bungie Day ever.

When he was younger, he was the one who always had the jokes and riddles that would keep the spirits of the Spartans high. Over the years however, his lifetime of combat had hardened him, as it had all of the Spartans. Within Will, John thought, something special had been lost.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll admit that I RAGED after my bag order was canceled just as I was celebrating having been able to place the order. I RAGED, and I reverted childish behaviors of letting everyone I could know that I'd been cheated. 9:30 till 3 O'clock when I had to work, I was constantly trying to get one.

But one thing I did not do? I did not blame Bungie.

When you think about it, most people wanted these so bad for love of Bungie, to be able to say they're holding some special unique piece of Bungie's 20 years. For some they wanted that piece to feel like they were bigger fans for it to boost something self/ego related to say they are the only ones, or to say they are of the few. It was that promise of "limited" that got people going. Many see themselves as the only biggest fan. They feel they should be or need to be be set above all others, and having been denied the right to be counted among the few, people RAGED.

It's a self thing. And I can say at a point hours into this, I honestly didn't care about the charity. After all the whole point of this stuff is to be able to say that you are of the few, to say you were there, to show your love for this studio and the things it's accomplished. You can say the community was wrong, but that really was the whole hook behind this thing. In a capitalist society, the economy makes use of the most basic human behavior, self-interest, to accomplish something greater. The more self-interest people have to better themselves the more the economy thrives. In this case the fruit of that nature was a noble cause.

Maturity aside, you might just as well tell people not to want this stuff so badly. With the amount of investment people were putting into getting these things, it's really hard to be surprised. I am not defending the community's behavior, but I'm saying that when you capitalize on self, people inevitably behave this way. I too hate to see people behaving this way. There isn't anything anyone can do but to check themselves, and let people be people.

This Swag Bag incident is something the Septagon won't forget. It was crazy yesterday. And I would be pissed(at myself) if I canceled my orders from Gorilla Print thinking it was a scam too. This is a another reason why people were so upset.

Bye.

I was going to attempt to order one. Even though the cost would of been a lot higher for me 'cause of shipping :'(. However, I thought something like this would happen. A frenzy of fans, some "bigger" than others, screaming and sweating for sweet, sweet swag.
So I decided to stay away from the whole debacle that the swag bag's were going to obviously cause.

As big a fan of bungie's as I am, I didn't want to take the opportunity of a limited bag away from anyone else. I think there's someone out there more deserving than I, and I hope that fan got a bag. I also missed out in donating money to the "Bungie foundation". Which I really wanted to do. Is their any way to donate regardless of getting a bag?

This kind of arrogance coming from an ex-moderator "sweet", in and of itself.

Do you honestly think you're better then the rest of the community because you're not disagreeing with the fact that Bungie -blam!- up? Do you think that you have some sort of "higher maturity level" because you're not complaining about Aerospaces complete letdown?

I never intended on getting BoS (nor did I get one), but Bungie's manner in selling the BoS' was retarded and completely unprofessional.

Aerospace -- which a lot of people were wondering about for over a year -- completely let down the community who actually wanted something. Sure, Bungie never told us it was going to be a game, but they sure as hell teased us about it for many previous updates. The fact that they're telling us that indie developers joy is so great for us is annoying! Bungie should realize that none of us give a -blam!- about mobile games, that letting us down like that was STUPID.

Mobile games are meant to kill time mess around on -- not sit down and play.

Consoles and PC's are for less awkward to use, and are capable of so much more -- phones and iPod touches never will.

So quit being a dick.

Nope. I am better than the rest of the community because I am me. Quite frankly I have my head so far up my own ass that it should be a crime.

I'M AWESOME!!!

I cannot help it that so many people had hyped up Aerospace to be something it wasn't. It is your own fault if you let it happen to you. I have learned that with the generation of secrets and annoucements that it is better to come in with low expectations. That way you cannot be dissapointed.

So to summarize I will continue to be the same way I have always been. A total dick.

It's funny because that's not a fact at all, kid. They repeatedly admitted to the problem lying with Amazon, and that they were just as out of the loop as we were. Maybe if you actually paid attention to their announcements post-fiasco, you would've noticed that.

I don't want this to become a pick on you day. I just found your post amusing. You make it sound as if you are owed or entitled to something. You make it sound like you suddenly have nothing in your life to look forward to. You are so critical to the point that you think their lives and decisions revolve around you and what you want. It's like the way you see it, you think you and Bungie are in some kind of relationship. And that it's their job to make you happy. You've been "totally let down", but in reality it is you who have built Aerospace up to be something it's not. Bungie has done great things and will continue to. The swag bag situation was horrendous, but it was also not their fault. They've done everything they can to correct it.

And as far as maturity level you are acting just like someone young that has everything to prove. You can't stand anyone looking down on you, because you are in fact young. I can tell you that he is more mature than you, that's why you're butthurt, that's why you took offense to something that wasn't even directed at you to begin with. The immature always want to make everything about maturity.

I realize how condescending this all sounds. I have nothing against you, but when you let people punch your buttons you open yourself up to this sort of treatment.

Please have a good Bungie day, and appreciate all they've done and are going to do in the future.

Perhaps it would have been better to randomly assign swag bags to entrants to a draw. That would have been better than the rather haphazard approach that has been taken so far, I think.

Don't blame the entire Community, OP.

Yeah, there were a few disgruntled people here, but I assure you, the majority of Bungie fans weren't and aren't mad at all.
Disappointed, sure, I am too, but that was a very vocal minority that was fussing about it.
