I know there have been plenty of discussions on the language filter before, but this is a little different. I just learned that the word tr imming is censored. Why? Well because the last part of the word is a -blam!- reference. Now this seems a little different than the old "-blam!- is censored but dick isnt" thread because trim is a word that isn't even related to anything inappropriate. Example: i was posting in optimatch and i used the phrase "T-blam!- down the playlists." Now it seems like the whole meaning of the comment could be lost.

So is the list of censored words still one of the things that could be fixed, but wont because nobody wants to, or is there a chance of ending these shenanigans in the future?

Suck it Red!

You used a lot of Blams in there hard to understand what your trying to say lol.

You better close this sig when your done.

That does seem like a little much considering how much they actually let through, but t-blam!- is also a word you wont see a lot on a gaming forum so I really don't know if they'll bother to change it or not.

Oh okay, I see what's going on here.

Yeah, I can see why they have that blam'd.

It happens because removing the "t" turns it into...

Yeah, it is weird that they would use a substring block for that.

Am I supposed to type something here?

T-blam!-. wow that's weird.

EDIT:

Ever heard of preview post?
Also, they really need to stop being so ... blocky. I'm not trying to get banned because I'm bypassing the filter while trying to talk about getting my haircut.

I heard of something like it but I assumed it would be far too complicated to pull off.

That and I refuse to preview things before they're submitted. I'm just that kind of winning.

Minus the 't' from 'trimming'. That's what is being -blam!-'d.

Just like how we can't say 'snigger'.

Bollocks is one I am surprised isnt blamed. Or wanker.

Im assuming that although the community is multinational but the Bungie staff on the whole (or at least the majority) are American then they wouldnt really know other English speaking nations profanities.

Well from what i've read in past threads about the filter, they use a list of censored words that they got from another source and the Web Team doesn't see it as enough of an issue to require a change. I was wondering if that has changed in the time i spent away from the forums.

As for it not being a word you use in a gaming forum, that's true enough. But it's part of the English language, and it could easily be used in a phrase in this forum. Not to mention the Off Topic sections.

Regardless of context, it is inappropriate to bypass the profanity filter. I understand why one may question why certain things may be filtered while others go uncensored, but again, it is inappropriate to blatantly bypass the filter.
