Here's the reason a lot of us were/are upset: Bungie was based on making games and decisions based on the COMMUNITY. In an age where means of communicating with mass groups of people in an instant are endless, we got virtually nothing.
- A Facebook post tells us the stuff is going live any minute. Get your F5 fingers ready.
- Minutes later, a tweet states that due to all the F5ing, the Amazon servers DDOS'd.
- Shortly after, we get word that Amazon Support is working on the issues and there is no ETA of when it will be up.
Most of us are fine up to that point. We're getting communication and info about what is going on. Then, it gets ugly.
- Swag bags go up on Gorilla. People jump on orders, then hear it is a scam. People ask for confirmation from Bungie and don't get it. Many cancel their orders.
- A new listing goes up in the Bungie Store as well as on Amazon without anyone knowing. When people attempt to purchase, it states that there's none left. People ask if they are sold out again. No communication.
- Even though the listing clearly states 1 per customer, people are bragging how they bought 3, 5, 10, 20 bags. Rumors begin about orders over 1 being cancelled. Again, no communication.
- 4 hours after we're told there's no ETA, Bungie tweets an apology during all the melee telling us Stosh tripped over a cord. Thanks for the slap in the face.
- 20 minutes later, another tweet telling us what happened. Why not send this out in the midst of all the confusion? Maybe something like, "Bags will be up under a new listing but won't be available for purchase just yet. Hang in there."
We felt like Bungie just lost touch with what makes them a great company: Their involvement with the community. In recent weeks, they've gone away from that. Add in the overall disappointment by the community surrounding Aerospace (not saying it's a bad thing, just no reason to keep a press release about mobile gaming and indie developers secret) and you can see the frustration.
Yes, all proceeds go to charity. Yes, I got a bag, but only because I was raging in the forums did I see there were still bags available. In the end, I hope Bungie realizes what they mean to the community and that all we want is to be treated with the same respect we've shown them in the past.
