Subject: Discussion on the headhunter Elites

what should we call these new Elites? Headhunter Elites? Elite Deathsquads?

  • 07.02.2011 3:16 PM PDT

Well, apparently the writer for short the motion comic is based on called them 'nemesis'. -Source- However, he was probably using the word in the 'major enemy' context, not an actual name for the Elite group.

@Anton

Lol. Granted, Rtas is old enough to have several kids old enough to be kicking ass at that time ;) (before any one askes how the heck I know how old he is...look in the new Halo Visual Guide.)

Edit: oops, I used 'artist' when it was actually the writer for the Evolution short....

"The measure of a man is what he does with power"-Plato

Covenant Black ops hunter/killer teams.

Look at it like this: The Covenant are huge and a percentage of the Elite population will do something to piss off the hierarchy of High Charity. But they also were very good at combat, I think they are Elite misfits.

The Bad Company of the Covenant.

Or considering they set everything up to get the Head Hunter team. They could be a Covenant Head Hunter team.

Neither. Halo: The Essential Visual Guide (was just released this week). Rtas (though he is just listed as 'shipmaster' with his full name under that on the actual page) is on pg 175. We have an official height for him now too.

Ahh, sorry. I was meaning the Essential visual guide when I said Atlas. I'm not entirely sure where I got that terminology from. Is it more than the rather poverty stricken passage we got in the Halo Encyclopaedia for him?

Can I haz spoilers?

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

Does it give an age for him? anything new in the book regardless?

  • 07.02.2011 7:23 PM PDT

Hehe, for a fellow Rtas fan, sure. ;)

Birthdate: Sept 21, 2487 (I am assuming this is coverted from whatever calender system the Sangheili use)
Height: 7'11"

Both his entry and the entry for the Shadow of Intent also implies that he and his supporters didn't just take back a cruiser, but a whole damn fleet.

That's really the only 'new' info on him.

from what i remember from "the flood" and "contact harvest" they use the same calander but use differant wording for it.

WHAT???? HE IS ONLY THIRTY EIGHT YEARS OLD????? THAT MEANS SOME ELITES THAT MC FOUGHT COULD HAVE BEEN LIKE 20

elites are definitely stronger than spartans now

Your math is wrong. In 2553 Rtas is 66 years old.

How long do Sangheili live again? :/

I did the math at the start of the war, phew thanks for correcting me.

Can you PM me and Anton any other useful tidbits? anything on hunters, drones or engineers?

Flood or forerunners?

Unfortunately, that is still unknown. Considering how 'healthy' and athletic both Rtas and Thel are in their 60s (Thel is 68), I'm guessing they are fairly long lived.

And your welcome.

@Grey
Sure, just PM me specific requests and I'll look it up. I think we knocked this topic far enough off the rails as is. XD

I have always thought they were roughly middle aged for whatever life expectancy they had given their ranks. Should have enough gas left in his tank yet then if being middle age is 66.

Oh 343 Industries, you win my support so very easily. Buggers.

not to mention that elite minors are holding energy swords, something that is not allowed by Sangheili law. they have to be a Aristocrat to wield them.
but yeah. minors are not allowed to wield energy swords.

No, they could wield them. See: "Sangheili Minors are strictly forbidden from wielding energy swords unless they are of aristocratic lineage" So, if one is of "aristocratic lineage" they could wield an Energy Sword

There's a slight contradiction here in the Essential Visual Guide in regards to this. There's a bit on the Energy sword page (pg 63) that says (empathsis mine):

"Outside of the Covenant Military, only Elite aristocrats are allowed to wield swords"

That seems to imply that so long as an Elite is actively serving in the Covenant Military he can wield a sword, aristocrat or not.

A Golden Ranger is the highest honor to be bestowed upon
a Sangheili warrior... however, a white elite councilor is a higher honor, and i am proud to be one of them.

what should we call these new Elites? Headhunter Elites? Elite Deathsquads?

After much thought about the elites with my friends on xbox live, we came up with one conclusion:

Inquisitor Elites

The reason for this is because:

that part when the leader elite was like: "Put down your weapons and submit yourself for inquisition."
It got me thinking, so i looked up inquisition in a dictionary and the basic meaning of it was an official investigation. Which got me to thinking that the elites are investigating the spartans technology and hunting down the S-III's.

ALSO:
Their red sword are probably apart of distinguishing themselves from other elites (other than the armour) but to me, the swords looked WAY longer than the normal energy swords.

Hmm I figured that was the case when he arrived to Earth at the head of a carrier rather than a cruiser. In any case it just dawned on me. In terms of age we have folks in the UNSC such as Johnson who would be an old geezer unfit for war were it not for the whole being being in cryo while en route from world to world.

Do the Covenant, particularly Elites with their unknown average lifespan, have an equivalent or even need of cryo? Sure their ships can get from place to place faster than the UNSC, but I can't help but wonder if some Elite veterans were phased out of the war due to old age during the long war with the humans.

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

They could of been a group of Elites that were set up with the sole purpose of combatting Head Hunter teams. That would explain how they knew about their tech and how the SIII's kinda did things.

Knowing your enemy makes you a better hunter.

As to who controls them, not sure - might of even been a group of Elites kept away from the main body of the Elite military - controlled directly by the Elite's governing body ?

Wild speculation...we need Immortaljoshua and his "Legendary Book of Facts and Theories". lol

No one expects the Elite Inquisition!

I immediately remembered this.

On-topic:

About the elites knowing about "visual upgrades", it raises few questions: When the story takes place? When VISR was invented? And, at the time of the story, was it in widespread use by SPARTANS and ODSTs?

  • 07.04.2011 7:38 AM PDT

Walk softly, and carry a big midget.

They didn't even help the standard Covenant Forces either. They must have been watching them for a while.

Maybe they're the Covenant's version of Headhunters? Except the heads they are hunting are Spartan heads.
