Subject: I hope 343i goes back to the ways of Halo 3

Is that why so many people hate on reach compared to to previous games? I am waiting to see all wat 343i is gonna put in the title update and might play classic. I find myself playing 3 cause 2 was shutdown and GTA 4 cause I find reach suckish. But I guess people can have their opinions.

I personally wish it goes back to Halo 2 style. I liked the simplicity and somewhat grainy and or combat style of the game. Halo Reach and 3 to me were a little to "glamorous" war isn't all happy and incredibly shiny. Although sadly it is very likely the style used in 3 and reach will be combined and it will look like a giant crap, because they need to keep the chief style but give the overweight armor with millions of wires and batteries and additional buff outs from reach to keep up to bungies new par.

They should certainly go back to more traditional Halo gameplay without things like armour abilities, maybe not even equipment. Go back to the Halo triangle.

Every Halo release has made the same mistakes; longer kill times, slowing down of gameplay, and less emphasis on actual gun play. 343 should try to not make these mistakes again.

Reach is terrible. Halo 3 is the best, imo. If you don't like my opinion, then go to the Reach forum.

I think Halo 3 is terrible and Reach is way better, don't like my opinion then go to the Halo 3 forums.

I hope they get players more enthusiastic.

Before 2009, Halo 3 was still hot crap. There were tons of players online and everyone seemed to have more competitive enthusiasm.

But now, Reach is like a ghost town. No one ever uses mics. No one has a sense of sportsmanship or team work. Hell, there isn't even much enthusiasm for the Warthog. Back in Halo 3, players would actually rush for the Warthog. Now it's just the sniper rifle.

Is that why hundreds of thousands of people prefer any of the trilogy's gameplay to reaches? I am waiting to see all wat 343i is gonna put in the title update and might play classic. Care to back up that statement with facts?

What I ment was that reach isn't played as often as the other halos. My bad. I mean, how many people get on every day and play reach after they get challenges?

I don't know much about the player count but in 24 hours it logs how many different people played. Some people might get on to see the weekly or get a few challenges. So it may say 600,000 but did they just hop on to see who is playing or for forge? In halo 2 and 3 I know I would spent hours a day playing MM while my friends and I have trouble playing Reach more than 1/2 an hour.

We should know better, because we are better.

I hope 343i adds something new to the game. Not as big of a change as AAs, but the same basic gameplay taken to new levels. Halo has a lot of features that where not taken to their fullest in each game: H2 had the Arbiter's camo but we never played a stealth orientated level, H3 had equipment but the effects on gameplay where minimal, HR had AAs but we never explored each of their potentials.

Basically, taking the gameplay we all know and love and taking it to it's conclusion.

  • 07.02.2011 2:40 PM PDT

Well, it is very likely that they'll keep sprint as a static ability, we'll have thruster capabilitys, so hopefully we'll see some zero-gee multiplayer, I'd like to see armour ability's refined, but not removed, AL should be removed, or at least keep first person view with no emp.
It does need to be kept changing, so it doesn't become static and stale like CoD's multiplayer has, although you could say, why change something that works, if something remains the same for to long, it stagnates, that's why each halo has altered the multiplayer, reach just took it a little too far too fast.
At least we didn't end up with the crysis 2 multiplayer, invisibility, harened armour and heat sensory with long periods between recharge and short reacharge times, reach at least didn't give out too much, you where very limited compared to the mistake of crysis 2.

^^^its a franchise you don't need to change alot if it's fun people will buy it. Like madden and stuff each year they hardly change a thing but the fans still love it. That's how halo should be.
That's how CoD is. And that's why I don't buy CoD.

I've talked with many people who've been here since the beginning or just longer than I have, and pretty much all of them have said that the levels hate for Reach are exactly the same as what's been happening for the previous Halo games. Even going back and reading old threads I've seen the pattern for myself the new game is always criticized as the worst installment to the Halo series and the last game is hailed as the best. This is the same thing going on with Reach (at least in regards to gameplay, canon debates and arguments are an entirely different matter). At least you're one of the more understanding of people who dislike Reach :) Most others I've seen will insist that they're right and anyone who likes Reach is a complete noob. I don't care if people like Reach or not as long as they don't criticize it irrationally and are willing to listen to the other side ^_^

Rules of the internet.

Step 1: Hate current iteration in series, declare previous to be the best in the series.
Step 2: Demand a new entry to the series.
Step 3: Watch trailer and collectively start a hype any sane person knows will never be matched by reality.
Step 4: Play new game
Step 5: Hate new game, how the hell did "X" dare to change anything?!
Step 6: Demand a new entry to the series, after all, the previous one was the best!

The current one will always be hated and then suddenly becomes (one of) the best in the series when the next one comes out.
Same happened with H3 which was hated to death on these forums.

As for Halo 4: it should play like itself and shouldn't go back to a copy of Halo 3 with just a few new weapons.
While I do agree Halo 4 should maintain the core gameplay mechanics of Halo 2 (and 3 to a lesser degree, and with that I mean standard Halo stuff like Golden Triangle, boarding, dual wielding etc) the majority of the gameplay should feel new.
Why? Because otherwise the series will feel incredibly stale and Halo deserves better than that.

Throw in some new gameplay to make it feel fresh. Bring back Sprint as a standard ability (not an AA), maybe even add some more tactical gameplay or whatever. I don't really care.
Make it feel like Halo, but with its own face and not just being a rehashed Halo 3 (which was the weakest in the Bungie series)

Wake me, when you need me.

I agree. I could play Halo 3 all day and not get bored. I get bored of Reach after two hours. I'm not saying that it's a bad game, because I enjoy it, but it's just not as fun as Halo 3.

I don't want 343i to make an exact copy of H3, I just want them to go back to the play style of Halo 3. If I can have BR's back, i'll be the happiest person alive.

  • 07.03.2011 12:50 PM PDT

I DO have time to bleed...i just dont want to.

i still play halo 3 whaen i get pissed off on reach(i like reach dont get me wrong but you have to admit it does get anoing somtimes)

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

I hope not, for two reasons:

1. Halo 3, believe it or not had alot of problems such as weapon redundancy, a few bad maps and poor shot registration. IMO.

2. Halo 4 should have it's own unique style, not like AAs but more like equipment.

Mhm, very much so this.

I'm thinking that Halo 4 will probably be a bit of a hybrid between Pre-Reach gameplay features and some of the gameplay features from Reach. If the trailer is anything to go by it would seem to indicate that some form of relative to Reach's Armor Abilities will be appearing in some sort of capacity.

First of all, if the Halo franchise did stay 'the same' ie: Madden, then halo games wouldn't be unique, and would be worth dime a dozen. Bungie made sure to give each one of their games a unique change in gameplay, whether it be duel wielding, forge mode, armor abilities, or earning credits. To be frank, I think that change matters alot. I myself am a die hard halo fan so if it's a bad change it doesn't matter. Because I love Halo. I don't prefer reach's multiplayer gameplay, and I certainly played halo 3 more than reach. The maps had more variety and mystery. I was actually able to stop what I was doing in multiplayer and look around at all of the cool scenery in Halo 3. With Reach I never felt that same way. But I still played it because Halo is what I do. You don't need to keep something the same way to still love it. Change in my opinion is what most people look forward to.

^^^its a franchise you don't need to change alot if it's fun people will buy it. Like madden and stuff each year they hardly change a thing but the fans still love it. That's how halo should be. Like how when leaving CE we got vehicle boarding and dual wielding. Then in 3 we got brute weapons and vehicles. Reach well...we got invasion and armor. :)

Halo 4 should use 2/3 gameplay just add new levels, weapons, campaign, armor etc. Franchises don't need new gameplay like Bungie thought Reach needed.

Meh, I don't think that's a good idea, gameplay gets pretty stale after a while if it's essentially the same game every single time and it's essentially just the title that changes. Maybe not each game introducing something entirely new each installment, but Bungie had the right idea introducing new things to Reach, every couple games or so they need to introduce something new to change things up drastically, such as the AAs in Reach.

Yup. To keep people interested they sort of have to. If we end up playing another Halo 3, people are going to end up loosing interest, fast. Why? Because its gotten stale. When you allow a game to become stale...

The thing that I miss most about Halo 3 and Halo 2 is the grind to 50. I am so tired of Halo Reach and I have nothing to work towards. Inheritor is not enough to make me want to playand Onyx really means nothing and is gone soon after it is attained. If I wanted to grind xp with no skill involved I would go play the black hole called COD. There is nothing in Halo Reach that makes me want to stay, also I miss awesome multi-kills in the previous Halo games which in Halo Reach are killed by AL.

I have been a Halo fan since the beginning and it saddens me do feel no desire to play.

  • 07.10.2011 12:12 AM PDT

I already have something like this.

OT: Yeah, I miss that. SOOOOO many customs with friends, Matchmaking, Co-op, so much fun. That is so damn gone.
