Subject: Your reaction to the swag bag fiasco

"No, Hoobla. No."
~DeeJ

While there were a lucky few most of us just feel screwed. (NOT BUNGIES FAULT, i still feel screwed though)

My reaction after hours of F5, then stopping because bungie said so was calling BS, checking the forum, found out it was not BS then pressed this over and over again.

I didn't want a swag bag anyway, so, indifferent.

#1 Legendary ODST Firefight Highscore

[UNINTELLIGIBLE > INSUBORDINATION(?)]

Its the reason i won't get a swag bag. Not only was the MASSIVE delay horrible, but the confusion with gorilla printing really caused chaos.

I got my Swag Bag.

I just want to say this, that was one fun day (excluding the fiasco). That thread was soooo much fun.

I didn't want a swag bag, so I didn't pay much attention to the whole 'fiasco'.

The way people were acting about it made me feel like this.

I wouldn't call it a fiasco so much as I would call it a lot of people who were bound to be disappointed being disappointed and then overreacting.

Sure, it could have been handled better but, either way, there was still going to be a lot of people disappointed that they didn't get one.

I doubt, that if it had been handled differently, that you would have seen any different a reaction from the community.

  • 07.02.2011 11:37 PM PDT

Don't really care anymore. I was lucky enough to score one, but even if I hadn't I'd be indifferent by now. It's not healthy to be so worked up over something like this for long. That is at least unless you don't have real world issues to deal with.

  • 07.02.2011 11:37 PM PDT

Really depressed that this item was extremely important to some people's lives. I know the issue was extremely disappointing to a lot of people and it could have been handled a lot better, but most of the complaining was a bit overblown. It was a pretty sad day to be a Bungie Fan in my opinion.

  • 07.02.2011 11:38 PM PDT

Not too fond of the way it was handled, but I got one so I can't complain.

My reaction to your reaction of our reactions was this!

Hi.

I got one, but that was handled so badly that it embarrasses me.

  • 07.02.2011 11:49 PM PDT

Make choices, and don't look back.

What Zomechin said, I was lucky to get one. So were many others who went with the instinct to buy "Gorilla Bags"

  • 07.02.2011 11:52 PM PDT

You better close this sig when your done.

First reaction: "I Will F5 until my finger breaks!" I then realize Amazon ninja'd me and sold the bags under a different name while I kept F5ing the page after Bungie told me to stop.

After that had happened I was disappointed that I didn't get one, but then I came back to the forum and saw what someone else got in their swag bag and thought, "meh." So I decided it would be easier to just buy some sweet swag right out of the store, so I got the awesome Ancients poster and the Backpack and I'm super happy.

(Also why are the swag bags the only thing everyone cares about, there are other awesome things to buy in the store?)

It's a combination of the way people think about the lottery and the fact that they were limited.

A Bag O' Swag was only $30 but you could get much, much more value than that if you were lucky (like the lottery), so people wanted it for that reason. It's also a psychological principle that scarce, rare or "limited" things are more desirable.

I ended up getting one myself (somehow) and I was pretty happy about it, but I also bought one of the limited posters and I'm planning on winning one of the auction items.

  • 07.03.2011 12:16 AM PDT

I agree with you on the psychological principle. Even if bungie just sold the actual bag without the swag for $30, but told me it was limited to 777, I would've still fought (internet-fight) to get one.

I was dissapointed in the way it was handled. Accountability was lacking on Bungie's part, in terms of keeping the community updated on the situation. I checked their tweets, but did not get any updates while the bags were secretly being sold. A 140 character message regarding the situation isn't too much to ask for.. yea? Why would I initially trust buying something from a Gorilla anyway?

But I guess I saved $40 that day.

Charity? It's not a primary motivator for me right now. Maybe when I get a job with a triple digit salary.

My reaction was
"Bungie has released 2 waves today. I'll hang in there for another hour to see if there will be another."
*One hour later, Urk tweets that there will be another restock, time not announced.*
"Oh look, I was right. QUICK TO AMAZON!*
As soon as I got there, I ordered one and it went through.
I then proceeded to tweet:
@bungetweets OMG URK YOU SEXY MAN I LOVE YOU!

Actually, I find that I'm more invincible without pants, which is why I am not wearing any at the moment.

I got one, but I wish it had been handled better then it was.

You left out the part where Bungie used an anonymous and unmentioned name to sell the second restock, and the part where people risked being scammed by a (potentially) random guy just posing to be Bungie.

Why is that?

*scratches nuts*

To be honest, my reaction was something along the lines of that dumb youtube video where Peter Griffin yells "OMG, WHO THE HELL CARES?"
