So I've seen some quotes of Urk and Evil Otto that imply that Bungie has no control over whether people get Flames in H3 or not.

Yes, we don't want you to have flames in Halo 3 and we're lying to cover it up.

:|

Last year was custom code. We deployed it, remained in control of the back end, and later turned it back off. I asked our guys to investigate doing something similar for this year (which they are still doing), but I can't guarantee it will come to fruition, even though I want it to.

Since we will lose access to title support for Halo 3 soon, we need to be careful and considerate with how we impact the people still playing it, and ensure that the new stewards aren't passed a smouldering server in need of immediate repairs.

Responsibility. It's a -blam!-.

That means we have to contact Microsoft and/or 343 Industries to get one of them to turn on Flames in H3 for us.

So what do we do?

I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on the subject.

Also if someone could supply me with the quotes that I referred to so I could edit them into the main post, then that would be awesome.

Bungie.Match.com: Our Johnson knows what the ladies like.

They can give them, however it would come with a deal-breaking price. They'd have to give it to everyone, and you can never turn it off.

I heard that too, but I don't get why they can't just use the same code they did last time. We were able to put it on and take it off whenever we wanted.

Bungie said that one time was a custom code, and they had someone over there monitoring it at all times. But if they were to leave it on permanently? It would fry the servers. It is their responsibility to ensure that the servers are in good shape when handed over to 343. Thus Bungie cannot do it.

Err.you know that Halo is played on a peer-peer network, right?

The games played are, the playlists arn't. Urk said something about it in another thread.

There is a difference between 'servers' and 'dedicated servers.'

It's good to be funny. Very good.

I don't quite want to call them liars however they are. Especially considering the armor can be tied to the disc like all armor is. It would literally make no sense that everyone would have flames and not be able to turn them off.

1. Of course everyone would get the chest piece. We don't aren't selfish.
2. The flames are tied to the chest piece, so Bungie saying we wouldn't be able to turn it off is not true. If we want flames we wear the EOD chest piece entitled Bungie. If we don't want the flames we wear a different chest piece. It's not like the Bungie chest piece is so different that we would want it without flames. Especially considering all it is, is a duplicate of EOD with different lights.
3. Bungie would simply have to enable the coding in EVERYONE'S disc as it contains the file already that enables the armor piece.

None the less I disagree with Bungie lying, when simply they should just come straight out and say; Yes we'll give it away, or, No we won't. Oh and it doesn't require servers. It can be done offline ffs.

I somewhat I agree with you.

@Lt Colonel Haha: I'm glad I'm not the only one that recognized something fishy about Bungie's "oh, everyone would have to have it on FOREVER" excuse. It doesn't make sense.
