Hello, I've decided that it's time to have a Halo 2 PC worry thread, to post your worries about Halo 2 PC. Theres a suggestion thread, now heres a thread to say all your worries and concerns about Halo 2 PC.

My worries are that the game is gonna be a resource hog like Halo PC, with dx10 and attention mainly going for Halo 3 for xbox 360, Halo 2 PC might get less attention and end up horribly optimized. Also, even with dx10 it might not look as good as the latest games, becasue if they don't update the textures then even with dx10 it'll look bland and ugly. Look at Call of Duty 2, even on dx7 the textures make the game look beautiful, then look at games running on dx7, look at those textures, they look horrible. Also, the multiplayer might get horribly optimized as well, resulting in an horrible laggy and warpy multiplayer.

If they screw this up, people will hate bungie forever. Atleast with the first game they could blame gearbox.

Bungie arent making this one either, its some team doing it deep within the MS fortress

As for my worries, one blatant one, Lag for online multiplayer. I hope the netcode is tighter than the belt around Peter Griffins waist

Yup, I really hope that the mp doesn't lag, or warp like mad like Halo PC.

Also, your wrong about MS doing it by themself, bungie has said they're helping do it with them, the only reason they have some MS teams is becasue htye dodn't have the resources, they don't have enough employees, thats why they had to start employing more people.

ahh k I see but anyways, I reckon that bungie wont be spending a great deal of time on this one and offload most of the coding work to the MS folks

Not really, bungie probably check the coding and everything if MS does it, becasue beefore they were probably already working on Halo 3 with the orginal team, now they have employed more people, so they'll be working on Halo 2 PC.
All we need to worry about is the talent of the teams so they'll do a good job.

We all worry about the quality of it, we all want the people at bungie who did Halo 2 to do the job but that can't happen.

THey are working closely, but they probably aren't doing any of the conversion stuff. They will know if the game is substanderd, and will hopefully have the power to step in.

Yup, anyway we may worry about tht but theres nothing we can do, we can only hope that bungie learned their lesson. Also stay on topic.

im sure they arent doing the stupid server based hit regrestration gearbox did. im sure it will be like every other pc game. My concern is that they will release it and not update it or have any type of anti-cheat present, making the multiplayer useless.

Worries? I'm worried that everyone is gonna roll over and buy Halo 2 PC despite how royally screwed they get by Bungie and Microsoft (bad netcode, endless TK'ing on servers, stupid head games, ditching the poorer fans and ALL Mac owners). I mean yeah, one can overlook all that for the sake of a great game... but I'd rather put my foot down and say forget it.

Hmm.. given that we haven't released the game yet how do you know what our online experience is like?

OMG

What worries me is this will kill halo pc custom edition for good.

Don't worry about Halo CE, all games will eventually die out, but don't worry hopefully Halo 2 PC will have a editor as good or better than Halo CE.

What I'm worried about is that it won't be as popular as people may think it has bad graphics becasue if they don't update the graphics mainly textures then the game will look horrible.

No. It won't. Because Vista isn't backwards compatible with XP, which angers a lot of people.

The lag problem really isn't in the hands of the game... more with how a person is connected.
There is only so much that you can do within a game to reduce lag. Halo used a novel appeoach to this using a system of "prediction" to cut down on info transfer times- so the server didn't need to wait for all the info from player's computers.

It is very much has to do with the game. If they use efficient netcode, there would be no need to prediction.

taken from the halo PC bungie FAQ:

Q: Who developed Halo for PC? I thought it was a Bungie game?

A: Bungie partnered with Gearbox Software to bring Halo to the PC. Both groups worked very closely to ensure that the PC conversion delivers the best possible experience.

this worries me... very familiar words :S

But did that time, did you see on the bungie website job posts and other things, that could only mean one thing after they have already workedon Halo 3 for around 1.2 years now. That they're hiring people to work with MS on Halo 2 PC and that bungie learned their lesson. They don't want to ruin their reputation for making excellent games.

Of course the game must be smooth, this is Microsoft! If they're the world's leading O/S and business but can't make their games perfect, then the world computer is gonna die.

  • 02.25.2006 2:29 PM PDT

"Hey! I heard you fellas taste.... just like chicken!!"

Hope they are not making a Halo 2 Pc neither Bungie ,MS or any other company, seriously the multiplayer in Halo PC was the worst ever! Plenty sucky user made servers but no mighty main servers absorbing all those gamers. So let the game be, focus on Halo 3, its for the best.

i have only 2 fears about it

1) new players and the map making thing that will be in it (ppl abuse stuff like that)
2) 1 weapon that rules all others (ppl are modding Hce tags into Hpc whats to stop them from doing it to H2pc?)
