if you think everyone else is out to get you, it's very likely the problem is your own.
Well sometimes it doesn't help to see yourself, or others like you (older, usually Mythic members) being banned exclusively, when you know that there are a hundred people trolling and posting shock sites and bumping repeatedly all over the forums, and yet they will most often be overlooked.

Our posts and threads get more attention and scrutiny, and we suffer for it, imo.

Oh hey, I should have made a post on my fifth anniversary. Oh well. Glad you're still around, skibur. Wasn't a huge fan of the group, though.

Locking does the job, warning gets the message across, banning just pisses people off and they come back angry.
There is truth and logic in that statement.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

Seven years of this website and somehow it's still appealing? Do you keep coming back because you feel as though there's still worthwhile things to be done or because visiting this site has become so ingrained into your daily routine that it would be near impossible to change?

Well, looks like you have something to say to everyone including staff (mods and Achronos) or perhaps a thought/ideal but never was accepted and now you are trying to show something....just saying'

But all those achievements are amazing and weird for 7 years though.

Congrats Skibur! 7 years is a massive achievement.

I think it's somewhat of a habit, and somewhat because I have invested a lot of time into this site and I don't want to waste it... To tell you the truth, I have no idea.

I only ask because I can't figure out why I keep coming back. Sure there are worthwhile conversations on here but they happen so rarely...

SonicJohn was talking about community involvement, so I guess that's a reason for some people to stay, but what does that consist of? Community Carnages which really only represent a small part of the community? Submitting art and other forms of media or designing cool web services like Apoc (all of which are well outside my domain)? Is there some way special way through which you contribute that keeps you coming back or do you just post?

All I really do is post and read and I cannot for the life of me explain how that keeps me coming back here (going on almost 6ish (pre-account) years now).

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Congrats Skibur, seven years is quite the acheivement. It's crazy to think about how many hours we've all invested into this website. I'm looking at six years soon; it's honestly mind lowing. I remember making my account when I was in sixth grade, and I'm still here now entering the eleventh grade. Where did all these years go? >.<

Hope you have a fun bnet birthday, and everyone in MM wishes you a great one <3

Exactly what I was trying to say. When you hit the 4-year mark, roughly, you start to realize this exact thing. I don't think it's anything that you can preempt or plan for, it just happens. You realize you have no real stake, and you end up coming here both by habit and by conviction that something will pop up for you, even if it never does.

That's also why I think All-Stars was as much of a success as it was, because it didn't demand pure artistic skill, just that you have a small bone of creativity and ideas in your body.

Which is also why I think people turn to things like fan-fictions, Community-projects, etc, in the first place. Partially because it's fun, and also because they feel like they have something to give back from all they've taken. And if you feel like you have nothing to give other than posts, then you end up feeling quite jaded.

I've reached a point now where I'm happy enough to just come here for the sake of coming here. I'll be Bnet-7 on August 8th, so I feel like I've come a long way in my Bnet adventure.

If anyone can figure out something for the post-4 bnetters to do other than feeling depressed that they can't do anything, then please feel free to say howdy and figure that out.

I think the Carnages were a perfect example of something to do that made it seem like there's an extra layer of involvement, and I like that they're back, but they feel lifeless now, especially that there's actually that "Carnage event" Bnet account. Makes it seem too robotic for my liking :/

Anyway, good job Skibz, on still being around throughout all of it that :)

It's not uncommon for members to make threads celebrating their Bungie.net birthdays as they get older, so here's mine. However, because of the simple fact that it's me posting it, I will probably be banned.

My last ban just wore off a few minutes ago, about 10 minutes late!

Here are some of my "Bungie.net Achievements" from the last seven years:

-Joined, 7.3.2004
-Became a Mythic Member after the first title tweak
-Created the best group on Bungie.net, Mythic Members
-Went to PAX 08 and met a bunch of Bungie and Bungie.net people
-Became a Bungie.net Moderator
-Had a name change
-Instigated the end of community carnages
-Instigated the permaban of impurity
-Instigated the permaban of drabominable and the subsequent deletion of the DO YOU LIKE PIE thread
-Resigned as moderator
-Still have a custom avatar (which I really appreciate)
-Went ban and warning free for 6 years
-First warning from Duardo
-First ban from Achronos
-Another several bans from incompetent moderators
-Became a super magnet for moderator attention

So yeah, I've enjoyed my time here.

New people, chill out and stop posting crap.
Moderators, quit being petty.
Mythic Members, you're awesome.

Here's to another ridiculous amount of time on this site. Hurray.

Now, so you can discuss something.

Do you think that the community and moderators encourage or discourage older members from being active in the community and why?

Sounds like one heck of a time you've had in the Bungie Forum. I wish I got to experience something just like this :/

I seem to notice a rollercoster effect in the OP. You went up, your peak was when you were a moderator, then you went down. You resigned, got warned, got banned.

But still, that is one impressive/lengthy Bnet career.

When he was younger, he was the one who always had the jokes and riddles that would keep the spirits of the Spartans high. Over the years however, his lifetime of combat had hardened him, as it had all of the Spartans. Within Will, John thought, something special had been lost.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Going on four if you include my previous account, and how sporadically I am active here. But seven years of sustained activity is a FEAT.

I think on your thought about being treated differently for being a vet member, the moderation/staff expect more of you. Can't give you a link to a specific post, but that is one argument I've seen. "You should know better." and are harsher for it, because it's one thing to slap the wrist of the ignorant, but I can imagine it might irk some people to have to remind people that have been around long enough to know better. You scold children, but you hold adults accountable.

Agreed.

As for the community involvement, do you think that's more of a failing on the part of Bungie to make this site interesting for those that have been here "forever" or is it more the failings of individual members to find the appropriate avenues (if those avenues even exist) to become more involved?

(I feel as though I'm taking this thread in a direction that wasn't intended. If that's the case Skibur feel free to tell me to stop).

"Respected" or "veteran" members don't get the benefit of the doubt over the frequent trouble makers? Seriously? Achronos himself said in one of my private groups that proven members get more "leeway" than known trolls and trouble makers. It's common knowledge that mythic/well respected members get away with more than others. Obviously not every single ban worthy action is going to get reprimanded. The mods can't be everywhere at once, you should know that as well as anyone.
