Subject: Details about the next 2 novels in the Forerunner Trilogy.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

On Waypoint, there's a 30 minute interview with Greg Bear, Kevin Grace and Frankie at a book shop talking about the Trilogy. There's a few details they talk about.

- Bear has said over the course of the trilogy he's going to develop a "natural crisis" similar to our global warming problem involving the movement/transportation of objects in slipspace.

- Mendicant Bias will be one of the main characters.

- Riser will return half way through the second novel and have a fairly large role.

- More explanation about the Mantle and its true origins.

- 343 Guilty Spark is hinted to make an appearance at some point. Perhaps when the Didact activates Halo.

- The Didact and the Librarian will have their relationship developed further. Greg notes how her character will develop parallel to the Didact and how he will explore their differences - she is a Lifeworker sworn to protect life, the Didact is causing trouble for her.

- More on the Forerunners/Precursors.

Thanks, Sam--working away on number 2. Takes a little time to figure out what Forerunners and the Precursor were actually up to!

More details to come. I personally cannot wait for Volume II.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Ugh, I still need to get my hands on Cryptum.

I have never seen a Halo novel here in Spain... I pretty much never see books in english to start with.

I wish I could order it online if I came into some money. I've heard nothing but good things from the guys here.

Maybe there is a larger relation then we know between the Didact and the Chief.Didact is the one who fired the rings right? In two bertrayls Spark was talking to the Chief as if he is the Didact.

Ah, that sucks. It's definitely the best Halo novel so far, it was so fresh to see the Halo universe through the eyes of someone who is only just discovering it and gets swept up in the scale of things going on.

I think the audiobook is available online and on iTunes.

The Forerunner, the Great Journey, and Heaven Theory

[Announcement Trailer] Halo: Forerunner

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

This interested me the most because it seems so disconnected from everything we know about the Forerunner. Reliance on slipspace leading to the potential destruction of a species...interesting, especially for a species which was thought to have mastered it.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

If you noticed the issue with slipspace being "out of wack" kept appearing through the entire novel, i wish to wonder why this isn't present with the UNSC and covenant.

Probably because the largest thing the Covies ever pushed through slipspace is High Charity with its protective fleet.
And thats about the biggest single "mass" that "frequently" uses slipspace travel in the entire Universe (as far as we know).
UNSC doesn't have anything nearly as big as it.

Now, Forerunners used to transport FAR greater objects en masse through Slipspace (multiple Halo Arrays, gigantic fleets, single ships which were enormous etc etc).
So a logical explanation would be that the Forerunners "overloaded" Slipspace capacity by transporting huge masses with high frequencies at the end of their time. Something which has never happened in UNSC/Covie times.

Running a bit ahead of things I would say the novels might point towards this slipspace overload being one of the causes the Forerunners didn't survive: they simply couldn't outrun the Flood anymore.

Honestly if the builders weren't trying to show off with halo and took the flood seriously and went with didacts plan we wouldn't even be talking about it right now.
They got too cocky

I can imagine it now. The Didact is about to bring the smackdown upon the Forerunner council. He'll wage a one man war against the Forerunners himself and all who'll stand against him.

Bornstellar, The Librarian, Riser and Chakas will be the ones he'll spare.

The Librarian won't like this because of her role as a life worker.

That or the Timess One manipulates slipspace to give the flood a huge advantage.

exactly.

The downside of their cast-system in a way.

Noticed that too. Perhaps the flood will use that to their advantage. It could possibly delay forerunner fleets to infected systems, allowing the flood extra time to infect worlds and capture starships to transport themselves to tother systems. At least that's what I'm thinking.

No, it was because of the halo's moving around in slipspace

Too many ships combined with too many large objects.

We should know better, because we are better.

The book also mentions that Forerunner slipspace cores require a shard from the original core that is kept secure by Master Builder in order to work.
They also mention that there is an early slipspace where a ship can pass through objects with disastrous consequences.

As for the global warming esque problem that is plaguing slipspace, I'm thinking along the lines of Warp Storms (vast storms that can destroy/slow/impede ships traveling through the warp as well as knocking planets out of orbit, for people not familiar with 40k). This could work with Sniffy's idea that the Flood are using the problems to their advantage. With the massive militarization going on, it could be that the Flood are using this to attack backwater worlds with minimal defenses to build up their numbers.

I wonder why the micro dyson sphere inside slipspace didn't put a strain on Covenant-UNSC slipspace travel,i mean it has far more mass then the entire array together.

Or the forerunners have limited use of slipspace which is going to effect their combat, seriously that is all over the book.

point A to B should only take 2 hours yet it is taking 3 days

etc

Which is what I am saying. Slipspace is acting wacky. This negatively affects the Forerunner Fleet's maneuverability. The Flood use this to their advantage by attacking colonies that the Forerunners will not be able to reach in time.
