We are all going to get banned aren't we?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GpmmyrmhJc

That is the first one and they go all the way to the last mission, i have yet to listen to all of them since i started on the 5th one.

But in that one bungie says the hologram on LNoS shows troop/ship placement around the planet reach. Which shows that the planet was being under attack from the forces of a single SC.

They don't give a -blam!- and i am sure as i spend my entire morning watching these videos i will find more issues, i can't wait to hear what they say about the PoA

For the entire planet to be under attack, all NAV data should have been purged and the Chief never would have been on the station, and would have died with the rest of his team on Reach.

He also would be on the frontlines, not waiting for a month.

Yes, Bungie doesn't give a rat's ass.

I'm interested to know how dozens of ships managed to get to Reach. I originally assumed it was just the LNoS, Ardent Prayer and the Corvette from the second mission but now they've got ships ALL OVER THE PLANET before the main fleet even arrives?

Does not compute...

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Yeah, I watched that whole thing a couple months ago.

From that video I came up with a theory that the Elite Field Marshall was stalking Noble Team, when they confirmed that what killed Kat was ''The Elite Commander'', which is obviously the Field Marshall from Winter Contingency, and later the one that led the team that killed Emile.

I suspected that this Elite had a big role the moment when Bungie showed that "batle begins" trailer.

Seems like he was Thels equivelant on ground.

another odd statement, bungie says the SIIIs were made to fight the innies where i was under the impression they were to directly fight the covenant. Innes were side jobs.

*Sigh* bungie did say the thing in sword base was a MAC round but i am going to say it was from a ship not a station

They also say that they were "very concerned" with the canon and made sure to get dates right

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

When Emile dies they say: "That's it, all the Spartans are gone."

Erm... what?

And when the Autumn takes off, Marty says they worked out how much propellant would be needed to lift the Autumn off the ground... Yeah, a few tiny booster pods on a ship that shouldn't even be in atmo.

I would assume that they were all Corvettes, and thus they would have come along with the Long Night of Solace. And I don't really remember seeing all that many ships depicted on the hologram of Reach on the Ardent Prayer's bridge, I mean I've never really studied it, but it didn't look like there were all that many.

You know, Coma, Aren't you always the one who says Reach's campaign is a better description of the battle of Reach than TFoR's? The reasoning being that "Humanities biggest military stronghold fell in two hours."

Yeah, you can't use that argument anymore since "Humanities biggest military stronghold" was breached by CORVETTES. These things don't even have shielding. And they managed to invade ONI buildings, and lead offensives on the friggin' planet for nearly a month.

That's totally better than the planet falling within 2 hours to hundreds and hundreds of ships.

Compared to the Autumn they are. Look at space shuttles these days, the boosters designed to get them into space are twice the size of the actual ship itself. I find it hard to believe that about half a dozen booster pods could lift the Autumn at all because of its mass.

This is irrelevant, it shouldn't have even been on Reach at all...

Beacuse today's rocket tech = rocket tech 500 years from now, and I believe PoA helped the thrusters with it's "UNSC hovering device" that's not powerful enugh to make it hover on its own.

There were only about 3-4. However, it's seems that they're likely placeholders representing a larger task force each. For example the markers for spirit dropship emblems comes in threes per marker. Now obviously from what can be observed from all over Halo Reach's levels, particularly the beach section of Long Night of Solace, there are far more than three dropships deployed in a given area. So in turn it's likely there may be more Corvettes within a unit represented by a single Corvette in the hologram map.

  • 07.04.2011 1:39 PM PDT

Another thing, looking at a picture of the hologram. How do you know which color icons belong to which side?

I see lots of yellow, and a few red.

Glancing through more screenshots here, it looks more like UNSC positions in yellow, as the Covenant did not surround the planet at that time.

I uploaded pics of the holo here I also uploaded a vid on it.

There are 4 corvettes over the planet thus there were 6 in total all over the planet which supports what were saying from the start that there were deploying troops around the planet since it would be hard for the SC do to that alone.

There are also 9 spirits deploying troops over a landmass which equates to 270 troops being deployed.

6 frigates and a SC attacked reach for a month, wiping out the fleet. I also point out that the MACs were not brought up in an answer to taking out the SC

Personally I'm working to figure that out myself. The dots are a mystery at the moment, but judging by how the Spirits and Corvettes have yellow icons I'd imagine that that would be the color of friendly (Covenant) forces to prevent confusion.

In any case I'm currently working on trying to fix a location for points of interest on Reach (such as Castle, the various Highland mountain facilities like Hathcock, etc, etc) and so far I'm fairly confidant that I have a good idea what one symbol is.

There's a yellow square, and within that yellow square is a red one. These particular symbols are strewn out all across the hologram seemingly at random. However, there are three that caught my eye. For those that have Halsey's map from the journal she has three particular areas circled with the designations "SWO (can't tell if it's SWD), VIS, and CAS". I'm under the impression that these stand for Sword Base, Visegrad, and Castle. These three locations, are coincidentally marked on the Covenant's hologram as well. My current theory is that this symbol represents the locations of possible Forerunner artifacts. A secondary guess being that the symbols represent an area where strong human presence was detected. My money is more on the former so far, but if it turns out to be the latter it will still be a useful way to track down key locations both in the games and books.

Yes I have, but the only thing we can nail down for sure are Sword, Castle, and Visegrad. Everything else from the generator facilities, Highcom HQ, the Sabre Facility, etc is still difficult to nail down be 90% sure about it.

It'd be handy if I can find a high quality large version of the map online so I can MS paint mark things on both and post them up here so it's clearer to onlookers.

We should know better, because we are better.

Actually there where only 4 corvettes harassing Reach (not counting the one you hijacked). There where 3 raids by multiple Spirit Dropships and 2 raids by unspecified ground forces. There where also a lot of UNSC forces in orbit going by the Hologram on the Bridge. By my count, there where 120 orbital assets above Reach (may have miscounted, there are a lot of dots).

Edit: Didn't see Grey's post above.
