It would appear the ninjas are sweeping in to catch another batch of reinforcements...

I don't even think more ninjas are necessary, just ninjas who allot more of their time to the Reach forum. Yes, it's a tedious chore, but after all, someone has to be willing to do it.

But I suppose not since the forum will likely be obliterated or move soon.

Nobody will care about the Reach forum after Bungie day. All the constructive posts will disappear and you'll see nothing but trolls.

Don't go there if you're going to get upset when somebody calls you out on something. That's the way things work.

Reach forum was once a constructive place, and then as soon as the game came out people who would follow Bungie to their graves came to defend a game that didn't need defending. Now all those constructive comments are labeled with trolls and haters (most of which disappeared after a few months).

This. Reach defenders brought it upon themselves.

On a side note, why would you care if someone calls you bad over the internet?

Because it derails the conversation! I don't care if self-proclaimed "skilled player" is calling me bad. However, when flaming turns out to derail the conversation, then it becomes annoying.

And it's very amusing how you say "defending" the game. Implying I find Reach perfect.
It only turns into flaming if the person being called bad gets angered. Usually, it's in the context ''you aren't good and haven't experience good players abusing ___.'' But people always get buttmad over that.

Moderators should just ban indiscriminately without regard for whether or not rules have been broken.

And on the seven7h day......

I don't think that's a good idea, i think the mods just lurk in there, and still do their job.

I agree with the OP. The Reach forum has evolved beyond the need for rules.

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

I have seen so many posts in the reach forum that if I had the power I would have called them out myself. But thats besides the point.

Ever since it was announced that 343 is taking over Reach and everyone is "breaking up Bunigie", there has been a HUGE increase in trolls/attacks etc etc on that forum. Honestly, its only a matter of time before that forum gets nuked all together.

I think we all remember when one of the last weekly updates mentioned that forums are going to be getting some changes. Once Bungie Day is done and over with, I bet the Web Team and Achronos already have a master plan already whipped up and they're just waiting to hit the button.

Plasma Prestiege, I understand what you mean when you say remove the rules (since it wouldn't make a difference) but like I already said, it's just a matter of time before that forum gets nuked anyways.

I'd give it 3 weeks MAX.

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

So you want to reward them for breaking the rules that much?

@bblcreator: It hasn't evolved it has devolved.

If someone makes a good point, I'll concede that, but your continuous condescension completely demonstrative of what the Reach forum has devolved into.

People are condescending because good points are being associated with all the other trolls. At this point, you either understand it or you don't, because nobody has patience to explain themselves due to the generalizations being tossed about.

Let me get this straight.

You feel that your points are being given equal merit as "troll" points, and it thus leads you to talk in a condescending manner to anyone who disagrees with your views of the game?

The only question this invokes in me is the following:

Are you so insecure about your talking points that you have to resort to condescension to make your case? You're changing your strategy because of trolls?

Nah, it's just that anyone who disagrees is a troll. I see.

> Poster A explains why X mechanic is bad and what could be done or could have been done to make it go differently
> Player B also posts about X mechanic, but he doesn't post constructive feedback either because he is unable to or he feels that it is implied. Or maybe he just wants to share his opinion
> Multiply Player B by 10 and Multiplayer player A times 5. This ratio continues to grow until the 'trolls' and 'whiners' who don't bother to explain themselves when they criticize the game are dominating the forum
> Now the other forum posters see these negative posts from the constructive posters and group them with the trolls, effectively rendering their constructive posts useless now that nobody wants to read them
> Now everyone is either trolling or posting with a condescending tone because people do not want to read their constructive feedback
> People get upset at condescending posters, yet when these posters tried to be constructive they ignored them

It really isn't that difficult to understand. The Reach forum wants people to troll, whine, and complain about the game so they can defend the game. When they see constructive posts there's little to no discussion value because there's nothing for them to add other than "I agree". When they disagree they'd rather do it in a thread where the discussion is heated up so that their words will have a greater impact.

I know all this because I been through all this. I can link 10 constructive posts to this thread right now that all died after 7 or less pages. Then I can list 10 condescending posts that all exploded because people rushed to defend their opinions. Why are there no constructive threads at 1000 replies? Why aren't the constructive threads TFT? Why aren't the constructive threads being regularly bumped and posted?

You're supposed to provoke each other in the Reach forum. If you don't like that then you shouldn't post in there. That's the way it works, and that's why I consistently make hot topics. Maybe if Bungie hadn't sat on their ass and told us where our feedback would be going to, the Reach forum would be a different place? I bet the reason it's like that is because nobody knows whether anyone is listening or not.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

Why not just make it so users can't make new threads in there and have pinned topics for players to complain or suggest, or whatever.

It'll clean up the forum pretty fast.

What would be the point of having a discussion* about something everyone agrees on?

*On the Reach forum, discussion reads as argument.

QFT

Complain threads ALWAYS get more posts that praise threads, the Reach forum is full of hypocrites.

Have you ever considered that the reason those "constructive feedback" threads never reached 1000 replies is because many people honestly don't see the points you bring up as a problem? You allocate all the blame on the trolls, and I'm not saying that they aren't a problem, but to place the entirety of the blame on them is ignoring the truth.

OT: The Reach forum is bad enough if you remove the rules Achronos would HAVE to nuke the forum.

Your account is older than mine and I know Achilles was a forum ninja in the past.

I still stand with my earlier post: Lock thread making and make it so there are certain types of pinned threads for the following:

Complaining
Praise
Suggestion

etc.
