I have a feature request for Bungie.net. Would it be possible to give us a new markup tag for code. This would be useful in my group about programming. Right now to format code you have to type in dashes to keep indentions. These dashes keep the code from running so you have to go through all of the stuff and remove the dashes if you want to run the code. This is because the extra spaces are removed. Could we get a code tag that keeps the extra spaces ands such, or is there some reason why it is not included?

I'm guessing that it may clash with the site's coding. Certainly using < and the like in certain areas on the site is blocked because it interferes with the site.

As a feature, i mean how many people would use this? Not many, but still not a bad thing to have if it's possible.

There are definately work arounds for the problem. I have posted .cpp files on other sites and linked to them, but when you are trying to make a quick point or write a tutorial having the code inline with the rest of your content is handy. Switching between source and explanation can be distracting.

I remember when the color tags got taken off. That suggested to me that the code tags may have been turned off since the beginning of the site and the function could be there. It's definately a feature that wouldn't see much use and is a pretty low priority when compared to the search feature and such. The chance that it could be already there waiting to get a change in the flag or something made me think about asking about it.

The other idea was that it would interfere with something else on b.net. The character counter on the bottom left counts those extra spaces even though they are removed when they are submitted. That seems like it would prevent a bunch of spaces messing everything up. I'm not so sure about the blam filter. I don't think code tags could do any extra damage as the filter is easy to dodge if you make any attempt to do it. It seems to be more about letting the productive users know what is acceptable and what isn't.
