In response to the OP, no. Novels about Noble Team only make it possible for more canon inconsistencies and mistakes to be made. Noble team was made up from nothing, lets not make the story any more of a disorganized mess than it already is..

Inconsistencies like what exactly? There are already questions with Noble Team's origins, novels would clear those up.

Yeah...here is how their origin story goes...

They were picked from a very young age by a super secret organization unknown to ONI or the UNSC, that's how super-serial-secret they were... NOBODY knew about them, not even themselves... Their memories of home, family and friends were wiped day after day, and only their training and battle experience remained, making them devoid of personality... Being so very super secret than nobody knew of their existence, Noble team was sent to defend Reach with their lives... They failed. The end.

Noble team is a joke...can't understand why anyone would want to read about them.

So because you think they are a joke, they don't deserve a novel? Crappy excuse. With a novel, their origins can be fleshed out, the characters can grow, and more lore can be added to the Halo Universe.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Are you saying that out of all the magnificent stories and characters we can explore in the Halo Universe, you would choose Noble Team, the most out of character group created by a band of people who clearly have not read through any of the source material on Halo?

Great choice fellas, great freakin choice.

So we can't have these magnificent stories AND Noble Team? You act like choosing one will forever strip the other's chance of being written about. Lot's of people talk about how Reach or Noble Team had potential, well here is an opportunity to use that potential and instead of doing so, they say no.

As I said earlier, most of the characters we love have these personalities because they have been the focus of several books and/or games. Look at Keyes for example: if we knew of him solely from Halo CE would we have liked him so much? Probably not. But, when we add in TFoR we see how big of an effect he had on the Spartans and finding the Halo ring. Without TFoR, Keyes' character would not have been nearly as developed or as interesting.

I want a novel about Jorge.

That's actually a point I once tried to push here. CE, on it's own, had poor, if any character development and not as much emotion. Keyes dying is "Shucks, the important guy died." and not "Holy... he's dead?"

Still amusing how they go "Noble Team has no personalities, little to no character development, and thus should never be touched again!" (I personally thought Noble Team as a whole had more character development then Master Chief did in the games...) So, if we used the same viewpoint. Master Chief had no personality, and pretty much no character development in halo CE. Therefore they should have never written the novels featuring him right?

It's like they are saying "They have potential, but instead of using it in novels, we'll just moan and whine and never use it."

CE needed to have TFoR to have good characters. We can hear Cortana's sadness when we see Keyes infected but we don't know what it means. Without TFoR, we wouldn't have known that Cortana is a copy of Halsey who loved Keyes (and as an extent, Cortana shared some of those feeling).

TFOR and The Flood both. I tried pointing it out before to people claiming that "CE had the most character development and most emotion out of all the halos."

So let's explore Emile's upbringing, hmmm... the hard ghetto life. His insecurities led him to trust one thing. His Kukri knife...

Jun, once a boy who dreamed of becoming a chef, but was quickly taken from him when his parent's famous 5 star resteruant was pillaged by the covenant invasion. He became a orphan and joined the S-III.

Jorge, internally conflicted and scared by the loss of his mother, he substitutes his pain for admiration. He neglects all the years of training which makes him mentally capable to take in years of warfare for any hope to impress his new suger mama.

Carter , A -blam!-ly repressed teen, filled with angst, who decides he'll be a leader. He doesn't give a toss about saving anything and loves to state the obvious. His entrance into the Spec-Op team was the proudest moment of his career.

Ahh, Kat and her mood swings. She's quick to show that she's the smarty pants with electric device, her character development shows that this is due to her fascination with technology.
Her insecurities lie with a failed driving test.

Noble-Six: Black Ink, He's done it all. Just top secrets stuff. Anything that sounds cool and "hyper-lethal" just add that in his stories.

The thing is, these characters are broken from foundation. You can have the best character development and stories with them in a novel. But in the Game it will lose continuity.

As it will never match. Why?

Because the game is the finished product. No changes.

Have to admit, I liked the Jun idea. Maybe the recurring joke can be his cooking is terrible. ;)

I understand your concerns, but the potential is there.

seeing as they were the only members of the team who were there since the beginning.

This I do not fully understand.

Carter was part of Alpha Company, Kat was part of Beta. Carter was pulled out of PROMETHEUS over a decade before TORPEDO, what was he doing in that time? What about Jun and Emile who were also part of Alpha, what were they doing for ten years to end up in Noble but as later additions since Carter and Kat were the original members. Is this implying there were OTHER members of NT that died in order for Kat and Carter to be the original members?

Carter could have been in another team such as Gauntlet Team at the time.

Jun and Emile could have been headhunters. That could explain why Jun had Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It would also explain why Emile had to be rotated out if there was another IN/OP.

I understand your concerns, but the potential is there.

But in that case there's potential for everything.

Say Bungie or 343i do Kurt's Onyx adventure. They make it out of character. Who do we trust? the game or the book. Of course we're going to have to go with the game. As that would be the primary source. But again, that would lead to many angry fans, me included.

So let's look at this in reverse, they make the novel in character with Noble Team at Reach. That would make some fans disappointed because the very existence and attitude of Noble Team does not fit with other sources. But we leave that aside for those who do enjoy Noble Team's theatrics. We get watered down Spartans.

How about if they make it out of character and flesh them out as legendary super-soldiers worthy of comparison with any S-II and even S-III groups. Well then, there's already a conflict. People who prefer this book will then say it trumps game canon.
But it doesn't because game canon comes first.[sadly] Therefore invalidating the novel completely which means the book was useless.

The only way to go is to make them like Reach's Noble Team. I for one would say that's a terrible thing. Because no matter how awesome the story and character development is, the final transformation to Halo:Reach would absolutely kill it. [Well for me anyway.]

It's like comparing old disney to new disney. Mulan to Hannah Montana.

Answer to OP's question: No.

We don't need a novel on nonexistent Noble Team that was in non-canon Halo: Reach. What is point of having a novel solely based on Noble Team? It would be terrible novel, in my opinion.

No, they would be better off with other development on other stories such as sequel to Ghosts of Onyx (Glasslands) and sequel to Cryptum.

Why waste their time on that meaningless novel on meaningless team that had no character development? (exempt from Jorge, only character had development so far.)

And to post above of me, tFoR came out in 2 weeks before CE came out. As bungie is leaving for good, it would mean that canon policy is questionable now, it will leave to 343i's decisions to change it or keep it. (It would better if they changed to something like this: Game Canon = Book canon, it's only way to solve the problems.)

They are mentioned in Halsey's Journal, they were a legitimate unit in Nav/Specwar/Group THREE (sp?), and they have a memorial statue resting in the rebuilt New Alexandria.

This is true sadly.

By retconing Reach you retcon Halsey's Journal. No matter what your opinion of it is. Unless 343i decides to retcon specifics.

Exactly!

Reach had potential. The initial teaser trailer was AMAZING! It created enormous hype for me, on the same level as the Halo 2 teaser with the Chief flying out towards the Covie cruiser... I was so excited for it because I had read TFoR many times over and had always wished that, if the movies actually got started again, they would start with TFoR, OR, that they'd make a game about it...either one would have been awesome, and we got a game, so I was stoked.

[And that's another thing now...if they go through with the movies again at some point and end up doing Reach...which story will they adapt? The Fall of Reach, or Halo: Reach? Ugh...]

So, in the teaser, we only had audio to discuss and figure out what the story will involve, and we apparently have Spartan's using call numbers that are out of range of any Spartan 2 class we knew of in TFoR...so that wasn't good...

Then Bungie releases the dreaded 'silhouette' image of the team of Spartans that will apparently be a part of the game. The characters in this image have seemingly obvious features about them that, with near 100% accuracy, resemble those of our one and only Master Chief John-117, AND his team.

On the far left, we have a silhouette of Spartan (some people though it was an Elite too) that is clearly the biggest in the group and is holding something big... This should have been Sam, who was known to be a head taller than John, and also a heavy weapon specialist.

Second from the left, we have the smallest looking Spartan, who should have been Kelly, the fastest Spartan.

In the center (typically where a LEADER would stand in a cliche group shot) we have a Spartan holding what looks like an assault rifle. Tall, but not the tallest...this should have been John.

Second from the right we have another average looking Spartan, holding something in their hand which looks like a knife. This should have been Fred since he was known for being skilled with knives.

Lastly, on the far right, we have a Spartan holding a sniper rifle. This should have been Linda, who had a reputation as being the best sniper.

What happens next? Bungie takes the silhouette away (and gives us names) to reveal the true identities of these Spartans, and with that, came immense disappointment [from me]. I was shocked, to say the least...that Bungie would ignore their own story like this. "Noble Team," they called them...a secret team of Spartans that apparently no one knew about (eye-roll). And they weren't JUST Spartans...they were Spartan 3's! A generation of Spartans that NEVER TOOK PART OF THE REACH BATTLE! I mean c'mon Bungie...if you're going to ignore your canon, at least try and make the transition subtle and not obvious? Make it about a team of made up Spartan 2's at least?

For years I had been led to believe that Bungie cared about their story. As more books continued to come out after TFoR, I'd read interviews from Bungie about how involved they are in the writing process, and how they make sure that everything in the books is consistent with all details of their story and universe. I loved that about Bungie. I loved that they were PROTECTIVE of their story, and wanted it to be the best it could be... But then...Reach...Reach is where that all fell apart. Bungie made changes that were UNNECESSARY... The Pillar of Autumn on the ground, Cortana, Noble Team in general, Spartan 3's being on Reach...Spartan 3's MEETING DR. HALSEY...UGH!! It pissed me off so much...

So...my reason for not wanting a book on Noble Team is this... It would only serve as a reason to destroy the canon further. We already know Noble team was made up from nothing...so for a book to be written about them is just digging the hole deeper. Yes, books can flesh them out and give them more personality...but if they shouldn't exist in the first place, writing anything about them is just further insult to the original story.
