It isn't our shiznit anymore.
Why doesn't Bungie use us?
By this I mean Bungie offering incentives that interest us gamers in exchange for information or participation that in turn helps Bungie as a business. One example I posted about a new title system was:
I wonder if Bungie would be willing to tie in their title system with community involvement. Testing out indie games Aerospace helped create, logging a certain amount of hours into their new IP, taking surveys, etc all earn you "points" for your next title. There wouldn't be a monetary price associated with these actions but it would help Bungie out greatly in their pursuits.
If we take Reach as an example, there could be optional weekly surveys players could take, and the completion of these surveys results in 10,000-15,000 Cr for the player. This helps both Bungie and the player.
Aerospace is a new addition, and the help it will bring to indie developers is invaluable. A quote from the weekly reads: "Bungie Aerospace will give studios the creative freedom and the resources they need, like access to the Bungie.net platform and an audience with the incredible Bungie community, to launch their entertainment experiences into orbit." I'm a bit of a pessimist, so I hold the opinion that many players won't want to help indie developers out of the kindness of their heart. This is one of the reasons I believe in these mutually beneficial programs, it is the best way for the consumer to participate in improving the company they like.
We see it all the time on apps for mobile devices, "Download Y game and get exclusive content/in game money for X game." Why haven't Bungie realized the potential goldmine here? Or perhaps they have, and are already planning to fully utilize these programs with their new IP. The release of their beta tester survey is evidence enough Bungie is interested in these mutually beneficial programs by offering early access to their new game, but how far are they willing to go with this system?
What do you think of these mutually beneficial programs? Love 'em, hate 'em? What ideas or criticism can you offer to improve this system?
