Subject: Bungies "Blam" Platform - Make the engine available to all?

Hey Bungie, ever consider making your platform available to all modders, like the UDK or CryEngine?

Your engine is really nice, and has some pretty simple tools and alot of things are self explanatory on how to do them. In the past I've used your engine to create Halo CE maps and so far have come along way to realize your engine was a good one, a much better GUI then UDK's or Valves Hammer too....

It could let the people make mods with your game engine, and if they ever tried to sell it you could be like EPIC games and have some of the profits... I think it would work out pretty nice.

I was actually hoping that Bungie Aerospace was going to be this and I was... sort of right, but wrong.

Would be cool, jus' saying.

I like to think of myself as an AI - I hunger for information, and I know, one day, that hunger will be my ultimate demise.

Does the engine actually have a name?

Most just call it the HEK (Halo Editing Kit) or "Blam!". It also consists of two main tools (That I know of), which are Sapien and Guerrilla. But then you also use 3ds Max to export the actual model of the map, with an exporter named Blitzkrieg.

Sapien is for viewing the map, adding objects, AI, and other certain things...

Guerrilla is for creating "tags", which are put into the map and used. Like scenery, weapons, particles, etc.

I see. I have just started using the UDK so I'll be learning all of this in the weeks to come.

Whoo.

I dunno, I'm thinking that the Bungie engine might not be that user friendly, from what I've seen of it seems rather technical, not really designed for the average newbie modder. :P

It's not that hard to use, IMO. Not sure about any of the newer versions past the one used in Halo 2 though.

Halo Custom Edition!!!

You can also do similar things on Halo 2, but not much in the line of "modding". Since it is on Xbox Live.
