Compare each weapon the halo 2 weapons were supposly to replace from halo. For example, rocket from halo to rocket from Halo 2, is it an improvement or worse. Or smgs to the M5AB, so discuss already. :)

Comparison of the battle rifle to the pistol:

The battle rifle is seriously powered down in Halo 2 when it comes to taking down shields. It has three little blasts per trigger pull, which theoretically makes it possible to hit with one of the bullets and miss with the others if you move the gun in mid blast just right. It is definitely not as strong as the pistol was in Halo 1, but it is still very well liked by players. They both have a 2X scope and have about the same number of ammo, when taking into consideration the BR uses 3 bullets per shot.

Ya the BR was meant to replace the pistol, but even ith 3 shot bursts it seems only as strong a 1 pistolshot from Halo, it basicly the same thing but meant more as an weapon you would use like an AR from Halo.

Br = Pistol (but now requires 4 bursts to the head to kill or 8 to the body)
SMG = AR (less single shot effect as scatter is always the same regardless of fire rate)
Magnum (new pistol) = New concept of weapon
PP = PP (*but now it's only usefull when fully charged and is an insta shot with the heavy lock on that might be changed for the PC though)
PR = PR (no freeze)
Brute Plasma = New concept
Sentinel Beam= New concept
Shotgun = Shotgun (much less consistant and drastically less effective at a range)

That pretty much sums it up as they are as of now. Sorry if I forgot anything
Oh needler = Needler but more ammo but less tracking so it looses it's ability to track people as they duck for cover)

Right now it seems Halo 2 weapons are less powerful than Halo 1 weapons. The way you put it makes it seem that weapons are less effective.

"Hey! I heard you fellas taste.... just like chicken!!"

All are good, balanced (maybe except the halo1 pistol) and are musts. End of Story!

The point of this thread is to compare weapons of Halo and Halo 2 and see if there more balanced, less effective inbalanced, better, worse.

What area you talking about. The HALO pistol was the great equalizer. Pinned by a sniper, Pistol. Attacked at close range with a shotty, Pistol. Spawn campers, Pistol. The Rocket guy shooting your hogs, Pistol

The pistol blanced the whole game.

Well, its true that they its a pretty good all around weapon but still, a rocket would definitly own a pistol at close to mid range. Mid range if you're pretty good at placing rocket shots. Shotguns and pistols, ya close combat its pretty even but however in close halls and meele range the shotguns kills in around 2 shots. Snipers, the pistol isn't as effective at long range as the sniper so sniper wins there. But all in all the pistol helpped even things out.

HURRAY FOR THE PISTOL! seriously, a guy would unload a whole round from the ar at me, what do i do? hit the guy with 3 pistol shots and hes dead. just wait for my shields to recharge and im off.

I think you mean clip and anyways, the AR is as good as the Shotgun in close combat if your good at aiming and keep your shots dead on, also in close range, don't go all crazy and spray you lose ammo faster. In close combat with an AR, fire when you know you'll hit, and keep up the fire, and spray when you can hit and you'll kill without having to reload. Becasue when you spray and miss you lose like around one fifth of your ammo in 1 second. You just got to get better with the AR to use it to its full potential, practice makes perfect. The AR is as good as a shotgun becasue by the time you get off like 4 shotgun hits to kill someone you can empty a whole AR clip.

bah, nobody actually aims with that stupid thing. SHORT CONTROLLED BURSTS! nobody uses them, they just spray and pray. wut noobs.

Well, thats becasue people think it's an under powered weapon but its not, the low damage and inaccuratness makes it seem that way. But in reality in close range in Halo PC it takes like 4 to 5 shotgun hits to kill someone in open fields close combat. By that time you can empty a whole AR clip.

I don't know about Halo 2, but I was a Marathon player, and the weapons were better in Marathon. The assault rifle did something. Best of all it had a grenade launcher that fired grenades in an arc, (a better arc than the fuel rod), and they exploded on impact, not sometime next Tuesday. And you could pick up a lot of grenades, (8 if I recall).

The pistol did next to nothing in Marathon– it was the weapon of last resort. It should have stayed that way. Now it's jusy "pop- pop-pop– dead -pop- pop-pop– dead." Bullet whores drive me nuts. Especially when they spawn kill.

The rocket launcher fired big slow rounds in Marathon, but there were 3 in a clip, and 3 is better than 2.

I do like the way the shields and health work in Halo better. In Marathon you had to find a recharge for your shields, while in Halo they come back as long as you're not getting shot.

I like the pistol alot as it is THE GREAT EQUALIZER as people say. It can be beaten by any other weapon (in the right situation) but, it just makes you seem that much cooler when you take down a guy with a RL or FRG at point blank range.

When I played on a friends Xbox I found the shotgun to be slightly more effective, but the best change I thought was the vehicle jacking. THAT was fun.

we r?

The shotgun got totally underpowered, reload time is slower than a rocket.
The magnums are only good with plasma pistols or smg's
The battle rifle is like the pistol, but like someone said you can hit 1, 2 or 0 out of 3 shots on the enemy.
That's all I can think of.

Hmm..

All in all, Halo 2 has a great system of balancing its weapons. The SMG is just like the Assault Rifle but since you can dual-wield it, it is not as underpowered. The needler is better, in my opinion, and your opponent can't dodge it by simply moving to the side for a little bit. The plasma rifle does not overheat as fast anymore, and it has a faster rate of fire than the plasma pistol. The PP is not as powerful as it was before, but it's harder to dodge.

But what makes the first Halo superior to the second one in a way is the great pistol. The awesome equalizer. If you're in close quarters and you have a pistol, but your enemy has a shotgun, you still have a decent chance of winning, even though your opponent has the bigger advantage. When you're pinned down by a sniper at medium range, you can still win, even though your opponent has a better chance. Not so in Halo 2, where if you have a sniper rifle, the auto-aim god will deliver your enemies into your hands with swift retribution.

H2's weapons are more balanced than H1, but it's not necessarily better.
