My first console video game was Halo: Combat Evovled.
I only played it once, at a friends house, and I was too young to really understand what was going on. I remember that I thought it was taking place on a space station around Earth, and that the Covenant were giant mutated bugs. The only other thing I remember about playing it, was that I got stuck down the ladder in front of Keyes.
Anyway, many, many years late, in early 2007, I was walking through staples looking for some bull-blam!- office program with my Dad. Sadly, gaming was not really a passion for me at the time. I had a Gamecube and a PS2 that I barely touched, except when I was really bored.
But then. I saw it. Halo.
I snatched it from the shelf, and a wave of nostalgia overcame me. I knew I had to have it. So, I bought it, took it home, and installed it on my computer.
I was overwhelmed by it. Halo: Combat Evolved for PC had turned me back into a gamer.
Before long, I owned Halo 1 and 2 for PC, and by Christmas, I had every Halo book available. I counted out all the money from my many relatives, and bought a 360. In a few months, I went from barely remembering Halo to being completely obsessed with it.
When ODST came out, my sister agreed to pick up my pre-ordered copy while I was still at school, so that I could play it as soon as I got home. A year later, she drove me to the midnight launch of Halo: Reach, where she stood in line for four hours with me to get the Legendary Edition.
My other, best Halo memory, was when I met Steve Downs at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. He signed my copy of Halo 3 and the Arbiter/Master Chief poster that came with it.
So, yeah. To say I'm a fan of Halo is putting it mildly.
Happy Bungie Day.
