Apparently your reading comprehension is not all there, I didn't say that it necessarily irritates me. It's just annoying.
*Head explodes*
Oh look! Another one of these threads...
If you found yourself saying that, I'm asking you kindly to leave right now.
Before I begin, I'll put out that I, myself, am disappointed by Bungie Day '11.
Now onwards. I believe the reason why many were disappointed by today and the couple weeks prior to today was because not everyone was really involved.
"WHAT?! You're crazy!! Bungie gave out blue flames and the star nameplate to everyone!"
I say to that: Awesome. Both of which are now extremely overused and, quite frankly, bland. Even my friend (who, I might add, hardly even plays Halo and is garbage at the game but thoroughly enjoys playing) says that he's not going to use blue flames anymore because it seems like everyone uses them. The reason being is because there is no value to these items anymore. They aren't anything special.
For all you WoW players out there, remember the Blood Elf Bandit Mask? Prime example. It was a coveted item to have one. Then in a few weeks when the supply of them went up, demand went down. No one cared much for them anymore. Classic case of supply and demand.
Basically, Bungie completely -blam!- on those who worked hard for the nameplate (similar to Recon situation) and drastically decreased the sentimental value of blue flames.
The steaks.
Bungie provided a special playlist in which you'd have a chance to play Bungie, and if you steaked them, you'd be shipped a Grade A steak. Here's the kicker: around 1% of the players in the playlist would be matched up against Bungie. Even fewer would win. And even less would steak them. You'd have to have the luck of Master Chief to receive a steak.
Once again, not everyone was given something of at least a little bit of value.
"But Bungie gave a whole new playlist!!"
So? We already have a straight slayer playlist: it's called Team Slayer. That playlist also has just as much AL as did the BvW playlist. Not to mention that if you're a good player, you won't have a chance at all of being matched with Bungie. That's why I did not participate in the playlist; my TruSkill would've skyrocketed, and I would've been unable to match up with Bungie because of the huge difference. No reason for me to even try.
Another factor in why today was a disappointment: no appeal.
Aerospace
The reveal of Aerospace disappointed many as well. Why? No appeal and not what people expected. Yeah, it's nice of Bungie to help independent game developers out, but let's be realistic. How does this concern the vast majority of the community? It doesn't.
"It does because it will help many developers make kick-ass games that we will enjoy!"
Are you serious? Kick-ass? At best, 1 or 2 games will be worth noting. Even then, that will not appeal to most since mobile games don't have much replay value. The only game that does is Angry Birds. Even then, the game has a slight decline in playability. Same with Tiny Wings. The games just get boring after a while. Mobile games isn't really a good route.
Problems still persist with this. What about the gigantic growing population of Android users? iOS users aren't a huge majority anymore. Hopefully, some quality (at best) games will come out for Android. I wish developers will create their games for both platforms to satisfy both audiences.
Swag Bags and other memorabilia
I don't understand people's logic with this one. This shouldn't even be categorized under what Bungie gave the community for Bungie Day, but, alas, I will still address it. Bungie Day has been (as far as I remember) celebrating Bungie's anniversary and things given away to the community for free as Bungie's thanks for their community. That's why I have trouble grouping payed-for items with the normal free items.
"But the Swag Bags were only $30, well below what they should be worth!"
What's your point? Less than .00011% of the community was able to snag one. Once again, nothing of value to everyone. You can argue that anyone was able to get one, but is that really the case? No. 90% of people aren't able to sit at their computer hours on end pressing the F5 key. There are other things that people must do, and a lot don't even have access to their computers during the short time in which the Swag Bags were available. The mishap with the second set of Swag Bags was so ridiculous that I don't even need to say anything on that.
I do tip my hat to Bungie for selling a cool shirt, though.
lol @ $1 avatar shirts. Really Bungie?
I already know what you imbeciles are going to say.
"You're so spoiled OP! Bungie could've just given us nothing, you know!"
Obviously they could've. But that's not even the point. That's the farthest you could get from the point, in fact. Every year Bungie has given the fans of their franchise things to satisfy them whether that be as a few tidbits on an upcoming project to an awesome, unexpected map that seemed to be from nowhere. It's not that I or all of us who are disappointed are upset because we're spoiled but rather because we've been accustomed to receiving noteworthy, quality items from Bungie. Hell, I still use the awesome dashboard theme from '08! It's not that we're unthankful but rather we've been always drawn into the festivities of the day and actually wanted to participate.
I'm disappointed because I felt no desire to even be apart of Bungie's 20th anniversary. With a let down like Reach and Bungie's complete and utter carelessness after its release, I expected something of value that I could reminiscence with on Bungie Day. But there was nothing like that. Bungie did tell us everything, yes, but they could have at least surprised us like they did with Bungie '08.
In a simple sentence, I'll sum up the disappointment felt by many fans: We're upset because we compared this Bungie Day to previous ones.
I do thank Bungie for creating awesome games in the last decade and even before that. I've loved Halo since the start, and I have big hopes for their new IP. I just wish Bungie would've cared more with Reach instead wanting tohurriedly hand the franchise over.
I feel like I'm forgetting stuff, but I typed this all from my mobile so I couldn't care less if I did.
